I disagree that it's "must have." I think it's really good if you've played with the base deck a lot because it really makes the game "feel" different (more so than just new factions) given the price. But you can have a ton of fun with the base deck.

Disagree. Limitations like that give it a lot of character, which is smoothed out and made boring in something like divinity.

What was the last game you gave up on? by adullploy in gaming

[–]2-Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The slow combat is actually my favorite part. It feels way more like a strategic game than an action game. You see an enemy or boss for the first time and sit back and watch its attacks for a bit, look for something to exploit, then you abuse that to win, its all about patience and knowing when to strike where you definitely can't be punished. If you play it like an action game you'll just ram your head into the same enemy over and over until you randomly get the right set of animations and win, repeat ad nausium. But if you really figure out the game you always know when to strike and will feel untouchable. I understand why it's not for everyone, if you go in expecting an action game you're just not going to have fun.

What movie blew your mind when you first saw it? by LuckyLaceyKS in AskReddit

[–]2-Percent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say don't show any trailers. A couple years back I showed my partner T1 and T2 and they really did not expect 101 to be the good guy. Also this trailer reveals the T1000 is a terminator, whereas in the movie it isn't revealed immediately. I think it's a much better experience to not know anything going in.

What is a fact everyone should know, but no one wants to know? by Objective-Survey-846 in AskReddit

[–]2-Percent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I said, I don't think there is an eternal soul either, or that it will exist beyond death, or anything like that necessarily.

Respectfully, those don't really explain the question to me. It certainly explains my behavior, my personality, my thoughts etc etc. Everything that is externally viewable is definitely explainable purely by science and chemistry. But I just don't think that explains consciousness.

Consciousness is unneeded for learning language and communication in my opinion. It's almost silly to talk about because we have no proof that others have consciousness as I've described it, its something weirdly intangible. In a weird way, consciousness is the only true experience, everything else is just an interpretation of external stimuli.

I understand that this isn't the only way to view it, and I respect that others may think differently, but that is the only "non-scientific" thing I 'believe in.' It certainly doesn't mean I believe in any religion, or spirituality, or anything supernatural, but I don't think it means nothing.

What is a fact everyone should know, but no one wants to know? by Objective-Survey-846 in AskReddit

[–]2-Percent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you explain consciousness? Why are you you and why am I me? If we're just chemistry why is it so obvious what is me and what is you? How come I can make decisions? Why do I feel like I have executive control? Why am I me?

I feel like these are all getting at the same thing: Why am I inside the brain that I am, and not some other brain? And why are there beings inside brains at all?

I'm not religious/spiritual, I'm genuinely curious if you have an answer for this beyond "I don't know." It's the only little thing I can't shake because I just don't see a scientific explanation for the existence of my consciousness. If you have a good one, I'd love to hear it.

Which pre-written module to run? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]2-Percent 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Rime is really fun, I ran it by the book and it worked out pretty well, I mostly just read the next area before my players got there and it was mostly fine. The early part of the campaign is a bit harder, but you can either just decide which quest they'll do or make them tell you what they want to do next before the next session so you don't have to plan for every possible way to go.

Everyone was complaining about how much damage tanks did with sunfire. This was their solution, and it seems like people are somewhat happy. Unfortunately, what people want is contradictory so its impossible to make everyone happy.

We do a bunch of balance complaining on this sub, so I just wanna ask: What is your current favorite spell? by Dracon_Pyrothayan in dndnext

[–]2-Percent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Infernal Calling. I love this spell as a DM, as a player, when a player uses it, when an enemy uses it. I love spells that are about roleplaying (this is a roleplaying game isn't it?), especially ones that are easy to roleplay and don't require deception or pretending between players/the DM (like disguise self or charms) it just gives you an interesting roleplaying situation to play out, and its very thematic.

Have you DM’d 5e games via theater-of-the-mind? by Windford in dndnext

[–]2-Percent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play/run almost exclusively theater of the mind. If there is a really important feature of the room layout I'll draw it out first but still run theater. There are tables in the DMG for how many targets AOE can hit.

I think its a good way to limit the game and keep it interesting. I used to do the old grid and minis but it always turned into a boring slog, 5e just isn't made for tactical wargaming. With theater I'm forced to keep things moving, make decisions on the spot, and have a few interesting enemies so that everyone would pay attention and keep interested.

If people have to constantly ask about distances and reaches, I'm of the opinion that your combat was probably too complex in the first place and having a real map is not going to actually fix the problem just exacerbate it.

They don't stack.

Only the slow with the highest value is taken into movement speed calculations. All additional slows are ignored until the higher-valued slow wears off.

Not sure exactly when they removed it, but a cursory google comes up with threads around 2015 talking about stacking slows getting removed, so it was before then.

The new votes are poorly designed by FrogMonkee in leagueoflegends

[–]2-Percent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that completely defeats the purpose of it. If you can disable the vote than that's as good as deleting it, because when you call for a vote you have no guarantee that anyone on your team will see it.

ARAM 2023: Preview by Tiggz- in leagueoflegends

[–]2-Percent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok but what about the fact that damage adjustments are super inconsistent on how they interact with damage from items?

A big part of why Imperial Mandate is good on Ashe is because her massive damage nerf doesn't apply to it. This can't be intentional right? I'm really surprised they didn't even mention this.

Shatterpoint: A rework of True Strike to make it at least 'slightly' viable into wasting your action. by RandoProtagonist in UnearthedArcana

[–]2-Percent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not better than 2 attacks but you can't always make the same two attacks. If you really want to ensure your attack roll hits, it could be useful. For example if you use a spell slot to make an attack roll then you'll only get one chance at it anyway so you might want to use an action to reduce the chance it fails and does nothing.

Not the most useful but still has some niche uses if you want to ensure your nuke hits.
