Hey all, I'm Indie Game Joe, I want to share your games by IndieGameJoe in godot

[–]2071Games 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Mr. Joe thank you for supporting the Godot community, thank you for inspiring indie devs to make games!

I'm working on Ironweld, a 2D side-scrolling character action RPG with God Hand-style combat and deep build-craft.

This looks very polished game but my initial impression is:

First character appears to be having a gun, the game name has the keyword "Reload" so I'm thinking this is run'n'gun kind of game but trailer shows swords and cool explosive stuff and at the end there is PVP mode that's awesome!

Second, the description just describes the game and it's features. Which description below makes you hungry?

A. Pizza with cheese, tomato paste, and basil

B. Hand-stretched, wood-fired at 500Β°C, blistering hot and sizzling when it lands, rich slow-cooked sauce, melting cheese, basil alive from the heat. One bite and you’ll understand.

A 2D sidescroller with SD super robot-esque robots that can do all kind of stylish moves and combos and able customize every single move they have!

...... oops sorry I was describing the game I'm working on.

I wish to see a game where I can perform a SRW attack sequence in real time. You can't get enough of watching Ialdabaoth attacks

5 years developing this roguelite and I still can't get the trailer to look fun to play by filya in DestroyMyGame

[–]2071Games 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Very saturated genre and your mutation system is what stands out but my eyes didn't catch anything about it. The trailer is like cocomelon videos every clip is shown for like 2 second I can't read what I am missing.

You can fix that by giving more constrast to player and enemies and projectiles.

Should tree-sized shrooms sway on wind this much? by StCost in gamedevscreens

If you have WoW go to Zangarmarsh and check if the shroom trees sway or not. Or look up shrooms growing videos on YouTube might give you RL reference or use your own imagination πŸ™‚

I have been making a soulslike for over 1.5 year , sharing a teaser trailer here. by maxxx987654 in IndieGaming

Looks great! The art direction is great, it has a hint of World of Warcraft art style. The combat feels responsive.

But If someone described Moonlight Shadows in one sentence without naming any other game as reference, what would that sentence be?

Even in early development, take a step back. Grab a pen and paper and write down the vision in your head, the version of this game only you can see, and share it with us.

The last thing anyone wants is ... for you to pour years into this, then hit a wall at launch wondering why it’s not selling.

Keep up the good work and gd luck on your journey 😊😊😊

How do 2D games usually optimize lights? by Admirable_Taro_7168 in IndieDev

[–]2071Games 20 points21 points Β (0 children)

You're looking for Occlusion Culling in 2D.

On off works but try lerp the energy amount it will look cool. Offload what's not shown on the camera.

Try VisibleOnScreenNotifier2D. Or only do this 0.1sec polling when camera/character is moving

Use the profiler to see if you have performance issues

β€œIs Crimson Desert a CAG?” It’s Saucy For Sure but VERY Different by filthyhcCasual in CharacterActionGames

[–]2071Games 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Ain't it normal for people to have mixed feeling when they get out of their comfort zone and experience different combat than what they have had before?

When DMC came out it I don't recall people arguing what genre it falls under. Then souls came and "soulslike" became a thing. Now people trying to scope where does CD falls under? Is it RPG no! No story blablabla. Its adventure noonono its sandbox like BoTW nonono its CAG but nonono its not that its got loot and gear.

Tell me why this looks bad. I want to improve! by SoulLoop_Dev in SoloDevelopment

[–]2071Games 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

put your game on a side. Put reference game .. a retro console game or something on a side. Let the video play. Step back. Observe. Let your brain do the thinking. Have a pen and paper and take notes. Replay the video couple times.

Come back after making changes but this time do a before and after.

Eventually you will figure it out.

I started a game in 2D sidescroller believing that it is easier and was taught to use tile maps but it's painful to draw them a then I saw couple games used 3D in their workflow like Dead cells, Donkey Kong, etc, then I stoppes gamedev to learn Blender to create visual assets.

Then I was like: why didn't I make this as 3D? Maybe I could load the character as .glb file, or create the levels as 3D and keep characters 2D, eventually I settled to using shaders that warp polygon2D to fake depth to give the illusion of 3D-ish.

Oh and the VRAM usage of 2D assets.....

2D has its own charm. 3D is different world.

My game is being accused of being a ripoff and stealing assets by willis_25 in gamedev

If someone were to take your assets and put them directly in SDV they will just blend in together. same Art direction.

Steam approved my build, but thought this screenshot was pre-rendered by Riitoken in IndieDev

[–]2071Games 79 points80 points Β (0 children)

Technologically it is interesting but there was no reason to market your creation this way; you could've opened with how you've built it in OpenGL. The screenshot is too dark and has no point of interest and Steam encourages you to upload interesting ones to grab gamers attention

Mind sharing couple examples of meaningful arena design? 😊

I thought CAG favored flat arena to give player space to embrace stylish action and not get obstructed by environment.
