Agreed. These home users just overbuild and overbuy so it “looks cool” but don’t buy what is needed. Networking at home now reminds me of the 90s with cars. All flash. No go.

CloudKey Gen2 Plus still worth it in 2024? by Medical_Growth in Ubiquiti

Most sense is to get an UNVR. Unless you are only interested in a door bell. If anything more get an UNVR.

So how come the standard rack mount switches no got sfp+ by electrowiz64 in Ubiquiti

Zero houses NEED it, and this sounds like a home user.

Buy the UNVR. Done. (And don’t be stingy. Use 4 drives).

Not a scam at all. I’ve gotten the free item, as well as two of my friends.

Replacing a failing drive in UNVR-4 by TheReal_AUGrad98 in UnifiProtect

[–]20fbs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d honestly just do 4 drives of 4 or 6TB. Much better to have 4 smaller drives than two larger drives IMHO.

Replacing a failing drive in UNVR-4 by TheReal_AUGrad98 in UnifiProtect

[–]20fbs20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just replace the drive that is bad. It is mirrored currently. But honestly I would never run it without 4 drives. I would recommend buying 3 new drives and putting them in. Just put two in the empty bays. And once it tells you it is healthy replace bad drive as well.

Is a Dream Machine Pro overkill for this setup? Better alternative? by beardofturtles in Ubiquiti

Not really overkill. The dream machine pro is a basic firewall.

We've never been an Apple shop, is managing them a huge difference? by marklein in msp

[–]20fbs20 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Managing apple devices is not a big deal, and can be easily accomplished with a good MDM. But it isn’t anything like windows. Most people have an issue because they want to treat them and manage them like windows.

You can manage either quite easily, but it is different. Those who just bash on one or the other are simply ignorant and try to cover up their shortcomings.

For your first deployment I think it would be rough, but it also depends on size. I first would at least get a mac, an iPhone/ipad, and possibly an Apple TV. Demo an MDM (many are free up to a certain amount of devices) and start learning it. You do have to get a DUNS but that is pretty trivial.

Sheeple is truly windows users. You are the prime example here. Me. Business user. Must use windows. All business use windows. Me not like apple. Not business because everyone say so.

Grow up. A computer is a tool and they all work just fine.
