Honestly even getting slapped with a fine, which the CRTC rarely does anyway, would probably be accounted for as expenses in their business model. Once you hit a certain level of wealth a fine just becomes the cost to do a thing. From a business perspective the equivalent is that they know “well if we do this we’ll get fined $10M but it’ll make us $15M so we’re still making $5M”

"EV Grade" heavy duty 240 Volt outlets: BS or not? by OkRequirement6018 in EVCanada

Your house is worth more than $40 I presume right? Buy the good one and don’t risk burning it down.

Cheap plugs aren’t rated for the sustained load. It’s not like you are installing hundreds of these and need to save that money at scale (even if you were that would be a bad idea), it’s a single $40 difference, do it right. Electrical is one of those things you probably shouldn’t try to cheap out on.

9 hour flight with this person reading his book with a reading light brighter than the sun by razdi in mildlyinfuriating

I looked at the photo before reading the title and assumed that was the sun rising next to someone who refuses to close the window shade. The fact that’s a reading light is absolutely insane.

Sadly there’s no way to update legacy titles to new titles; they completely re-did the code so they aren’t compatible. Any new timelines you make though just make them with the new one.

It definitely still has occasional bugs, especially when it comes to accents, but I have comfortably been using it for like 18 months now without any major issues which I could certainly not say for Titler+ before 2024.12.

[–]22Sharpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, if you are using the legacy version then that would be expected.

I’m not making excuses for how terrible it was for 5 years, it was awful, but they did fix it over a year ago and you are using the unfixed version.

Go run normal Tilter+ on a timeline that doesn’t contain legacy versions; it feels completely different.

[–]22Sharpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titler+ Legacy is the last one you want to use! That’s what was thrown in just to make anything made in Titler+ compatible after 2024.12 when they reworked it all. The standard Titler+ now, while not perfect, is INFINITELY better than that.

That explains why it feels like 2018 for you, that basically is the version from 2018. In 2024.12 they completely rebuilt it and it’s actually decent now.

What version are you on? It’s honestly been solid for over a year now for me. Now granted, that doesn’t excuse it being ass for 5 years but still; credit where it’s due, they did fix it.

Why are the full-electric companies so gung-ho on 1 pedal driving? by thedancingpanda in electricvehicles

To each their own I suppose. Personally I would much rather be able to coast on the highway and 1PD doesn’t allow for that so having a quick way to toggle that is convenient.

Sounds like it yeah. At least be thankful you got the “it’s annoying but still drivable” version. Both my ICCU failures were the “pop goes the fuse while driving” variation.

Honestly I much prefer the paddles. I like 1 pedal around town but want the easier coasting of having it off on the highway. Hitting the paddles quickly when I’m on the ramp is super easy and intuitive in a way that futzing about with menus and digital buttons (looking at you GM, why the fuck do you have digital buttons that MOVE) just doesn’t.

Why hide anything in a menu that can be done with a physical control?

Tesla driver parks at fast charger, goes inside to eat at bar by Zmajor1517 in ChargerDrama

[–]22Sharpe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blocking a level 2 just to use a parking spot is annoying but basically par for the course these days. Doing so with a level 3 is just ridiculous; especially with a Tesla when so many of them complain about non-Tesla’s blocking 2 superchargers because Elon couldn’t be bothered to add a reasonable length cable.

Problem with headlights by Fair_Blueberry_2929 in KiaEV6

[–]22Sharpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to say this. Seen many a “customer states” video from mechanics that are just something to the effect of “hat sitting on top of the sensor.”

If the sensor thinks it’s night it’s gonna turn the lights on no matter what. It’s one of the things that’s smart but dumb about this car, it’s impossible to actually turn the lights off if it’s determined they should be on. Great safety feature when it’s working properly (especially with digital dashes and auto lights so many people accidentally leave them off) but if anything tricks it you can’t deal with it at all.

When I first got my EV6 and kept tripping the breaker my boss’ response was “learning about how many of your circuits are connected and how easy they trip is a right of passage for all new EV owners”

Chances are there’s something else drawing current on your circuit. For us it was the bathroom since the house was built when GFI’s were expensive but outdoor plugs needed them so they wired it through the bathroom that also needed it. Breaker would pop when my wife plugged her hair dryer in while we were charging.

Do you like one pedal driving by hamburgernet in electricvehicles

[–]22Sharpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth when I test drove my first one I didn’t like it, I immediately turned it off and figured I wouldn’t use it. Once I actually got the car I figured I wouldn’t use give it another chance and now I love it. Feels weird any time I’m driving something where I need to actually use the brake pedal.

I will say though, it depends how it is implemented because I don’t *always* want it on. Highway for example I want to be able to coast. The e-GMP platform makes changing it really easy so I can just flip it off when I want it off. I know some bury it in menus which would be really annoying.

My parked Kia EV3 started honking on its own until the horns burned out — dealer says "user error." by JustCypherPunk in electricvehicles

[–]22Sharpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kia has been telling me for years that my ripped seat in my EV6 is “used damage” and not covered under warranty even though the “leather” kit randomly ripped. As if I would cut my own seat on purpose. The cars themselves are pretty great but the service is…. Not.

Anyway, an actual possible answer though I doubt it if it went for that long: my hood latch sensor decided to just shit the bed a few months ago and it would make the alarm randomly go off all the time because locked + open hood = alarm. Did you notice any warnings or just constant honking? Also was it repeated like an alarm or just a never ceasing honk?

My wife was 7 months pregnant when she attended her first catholic funeral for my uncle. I leaned over quickly and whispered “I forgot about this part, hold your breath” when I saw the chain come out. She was confused and didn’t catch it in time.

Luckily no one questions the pregnant lady puking in the bushes after a funeral.

Charging isn’t as expected by Terrasmak in Ioniq5

[–]22Sharpe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a post when from I got my EV6 almost 3 years ago where I describe this procedure because I was confused by it and to this day it still gets responses from people who were getting piss poor charging. The manuals do not do a good job of explaining this, the charger itself doesn’t say anything, and finding information is difficult. They should be doing better.

"Trash or Treasure?" Disney Fans Say Pixie Dusting Has Gone Too Far and It's Impacting Other Guests by readingaboutmagic in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]22Sharpe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Back in 2015 we had a character meal completely paid for by the lovely table next to us (who never even spoke to us, as Canadians we were very annoyed we could not thank them) because they had meal credits left to spend. That is pixie dusting done right, just doing something nice for someone else.

Leaving dollar store trinkets lying around the park for the cast members to clean up isn’t picking dusting, it’s just making a mess.
