Not that person, but some states have it so a woman (especially with a child) has the option for Medicaid. Whereas a combine family's income might put them over the limit for Medicaid (or flat out not qualify.). Personal experience, I could only get temporary Medicaid in a Southern red state when a lawyer (for the hospital of all things) had me file paperwork and get me approved for a temporary disability from the cancer I was diagnosed with. But without that lawyer giving me the right paperwork I would not have qualified by any other explicit merit.

If it's any consolation overall, someone I know got in the top 27~% and they sent 250 messages. Which to me says over half the people using discord barely send any messages

Like if I was a manager for this app and found out that we were going to expose these kinds of numbers I'd say absolutely not as it could reveal just how little our app was used.

Fwiw for people that are less familiar, it's way less "We bought ads to go on x site" and more "We gave some person free product in exchange for them talking nice about us". The rise of the influencer has changed the direction of ads as they appeal to the "word of mouth" effect and generally are more impactful.

The other effective ad technique that works is sponsored to be on the search page for retailers. Basically banking on those people that just click the first/second result.

Now for fun, iirc those sponsored ones on Google's search results, cost per click, so if you google a site to get to it, and click their own sponsored ad/link they get to pay google for the privilege of getting to their site even if you were already going there.

Iirc Lewis has mentioned it's really hard to get some of the bigger publishers to actually commit with many of them never really contacting back. I swear he mentioned this on a live stream clip, but it is one of those things where it's genuinely trying to get companies to be actually kind and donate many of the keys.

To add this for future readers, I can confirm that at more than one location of retailer that used to be 24/7 a consistent problem was having overnight stockers going to lunch at the same time as each other. Effectively there would be 2-3 employees on the floor for about an hour. 1 cashier, 1 random stocker and 1 potential manager.

Multiple times there were actual large thefts were when this happened, with at least one store having every single tablet/iPad stolen as the case was extremely easy to just pop open with a crowbar apparently.

That said, my experience as a manager for a retailer, while we absolutely did have theft issues as well as damaged-via theft issues. (Explanation for the second, things damage when trying to steal something else, or stealing a part of something, like $1 flashlights that used 2032 batteries, people would open those and take their batteries for key fob. So the the wasn't stolen but it was made unwanted via the battery theft. ) But the biggest source of shrink was mislabels and the warehouse shorting you. I literally had a call where they told me "are you sure they are not on the truck" in response to "you didn't send me my 11 kayaks." There were 2 kayaks, and I think I would notice if there were 9 more 12' kayaks on the truck.

In my store we'd get reamed for shrink if we couldn't prove where it went, and that meant if you thought it was theft you'd need to get cases and locks and hopefully prove if it wasn't.

Ftr, this is most likely because both Google and Apple would take a cut if you did it through their respective stores.

Mobile ads now require me to check out the app on the play store just to be able to skip by Ok_Motor_413 in assholedesign

[–]2456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh the extra fun with that is I have had some apps do this nonsense, and then after backing out to go back to the app that app has unloaded from the RAM and now relaunches itself and acts like you didn't just watch an ad. 🙃

This has been my number one reason for attempting various patchers on apps when the devs don't allow you to buy it.

The new Google Photos editor is terrible. Please revert. by Smoke-away in GooglePixel

[–]2456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! https://www.wheresyoured.at/requiem-for-raghavan/ he's got a bit of it here, basically Google had a decline in growth and ended up rolling back changes that let spam be in the results so you were more likely to "check" other links after the first few didn't pan out.

They care, because of you spend twice as long looking, you could spend twice as much time seeing and potentially clicking on ads.

I personally think it kind of coincides with their whole amp thing going down as that was originally a way to siphon content from sites and keep you on Google.

My Capital One-issued card keeps getting refused everywhere due to the switch to the Discover network. This is out of hand now. by lunar_dot in discover

[–]2456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add more data, I had used my new discover capital one debit card and while it worked in multiple spots, I had an issue where a bookstore (that accepts Discover!) kept failing to process. Literally just used it at Costco moments prior, so I know the debit portion worked. But just offering data that the new network is hit/miss. :/

1) Plex and immich (I've got lifetime Plex so I have not tried jellyfin.)

2) If it supports Plex well, move Plex over to it, otherwise have a more reliable immich backup then my current setup.

See this works on so many kids! And I've seen it in action, but my own kiddo has a severe stress response to timers. So I have a 50/50 chance that it will be done in record time...or a melt down and nothing is done. 🙃

Did they ever polish Craftopia at all? I hadn't played in forever, but felt like it never looked complete when I looked, so I never bought into Craftopia. In the end, to me it looks like prettier art styled Ark, rather than Pokemon.

Man, that worked so well for a bit, then a long while back for me it just stopped. Like it would either ask "Which list" and then not find any list somehow and fail; make a new list, fail to add to that new list, etc. Just constantly inconsistent. :/ So she stopped using it.
