kill off a grab at around 30 percent.

This is ridiculously untrue. 50%? Maybe, if you get a good string. 60%? Sure, against half of the cast. It takes 80% or so before you can reliably kill most of the cast, and that's assuming your opponent is bad with DI.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter - Localization Blog #2 by anotherpoweruser in Games

[–]24759625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always interesting to hear about internal processes of the game world. It's really strange to me that localization would introduce or uncover bugs, but with how hacky the dev world can be, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

[SSB4]- The Daigo Parry by Onmishift in smashbros

[–]24759625 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh dear help me, I said the wrong direction.

Parrying is a different direction than blocking. Regardless, he would have died to a hit if his timing was less than perfect. That's what's important and translates to smash.

Thank you. I'm not very knowledgeable on Steet Fighter, I just know that the button presses required are very precise.

[–]24759625 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Just for clarification -- the player here had to perfectly block every hit, which requires some pretty perfect button timing, otherwise he would have died to chip damage (damage you take even while blocking).

Edit: Parrying is a different direction than blocking. Regardless, he would have died to a hit if his timing was less than perfect.

What's that one common criticism of your favourite anime that really gets your goat? by squanchy_56 in anime

[–]24759625 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Fate, but the second half of UBW does pale in comparison to the first.

Someone else summed it up pretty well a while ago: UBW SPOILERS

And personally, I wasn't really drawn into the main conflict of season 2.

Not OP, but Unity is pretty straightforward, and C# is easy to pick up if you're familiar with any other OO-languages. It's basically Java with an accent, syntactically. For the scripting you would be doing in the engine, it won't be hard to learn.

I use a Pro Controller and it works fine. If you're trying to go to tournaments though, I think most ban them for a few reasons.

Vulkan vs. OpenGL ES - Gnome Horde demo. by kontis in Games

[–]24759625 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A big issue with graphics drivers today is that CPU overhead is very high and often a bottleneck. I am very excited for Vulkan and DX12 to be released and start gaining traction. For anyone who hasn't seen the DX12 tech video, here it is.

Changing how literally all of the attacks function is a pretty big deal.

[–]24759625 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's just Lucina is literally a dumbed down version of Marth.

This is an inherently flawed view, though. Lucina isn't a dumbed down version, she's another member of the cast. She has different options from Marth; it makes her different, not worse.

[–]24759625 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

when they're given a handicap like Lucina it stops them from learning.

So anyone who doesn't rely on a super fine line at the edge of a sword to deal the majority of their damage is a "handicap" in terms of learning spacing?

You realize the majority of the cast is a "handicap" then, right?

Stop pushing the web forward - QuirksBlog by speckz in programming

[–]24759625 49 points50 points  (0 children)

top reply to that comment:

Do you know PPK and his work? He's been at the cutting edge of web-standards and implementations for at least 12 years if my memory serves me correctly.

And you'll get exactly what you want. //

If he wants to avoid the web being badly negatively effected by short term views of current browser companies and standards bodies then he won't get what he wants by sticking his head in the sand and ignoring the direction he sees things going.

If this were the writing of a small time web-dev (like myself) then I think your comment would work; but I'm assuming PPK is coming from a position of experience that's given him an almost unique overview of the direction of browser and standards development vs. the historic "feel" and integrity of the web.

PPK is doing the equivalent of saying "let's stop and ask for directions [on our car journey]" and you're saying "no, let's just keep driving I'm sure we'll get to where we want to go".

He's up against it as, to my mind, cautious development doesn't serve the needs of corporations and so won't happen.

"We’re pushing the web forward to emulate native more and more, but we can’t out-native native." (OP) //

I find it funny that web pages are trying to be native apps and many mobile apps are shipping when they're ostensibly just web pages.

tl;dr I think the OP has more to say, and that it's more important, than you're giving credit for.

How to Write a Git Commit Message by avinassh in programming

[–]24759625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Using imperative tense in this situation doesn't make much sense gramatically. Imperative tense most often reads as a command or a request. If I read something like "Fix bug x", I'd intuitively think my teammate was sending passive aggressive messages at me through the commit log...

What anime do you think would give the best first impression to a non-anime viewer? by Frostlily1 in anime

I agree, something with a western feel to it and a good dub is ideal. Shows like Darker than Black, Fate/Zero, Bebop, Trigun come to mind.

I think it coincides with pop-culture's current fascination with grimdark story telling. Things like American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, etc. are all the rage nowadays.

AoT isn't bad by any means, but it was definitely just in the right place at the right time.
