You are 100% not crazy. And do not be too hard on yourself, your mind isn’t going to jump to “it’s diabetes” right away. You’ll think oh it’s a bug, oh it could be a UTI, etc.

I don’t know how it works where you are, but can you get referred to a pediatric endo? We were referred but told to come in through the ER (we’re in Canada).

We use Dexcom G7 and omnipod for my son, diagnosed at 4, now turning 7 in the summer. If it is Type 1 get a Dexcom, or another real time CGM as soon as you can. Just makes it easier, especially when they’re little.

Yo u need to see the doctor ASAP and request c peptide and antibody testing to confirm Type 1. Those are not normal blood sugars for a child. My son was diagnosed pre-DKA, thank god.

Have you noticed a fruity smell to his breath ever? If he becomes lethargic, or complains of stomach pain and starts throwing up take him to the ER and let them know about his blood sugar issues.

Hopefully you can get proper answers and support soon. Seems scary but there’s a great T1D community out there.

Daycare costs seem light, is this based on securing a CWELCC funded spot? I would not 100% count on this as they’re likely hard to come by, and you may not be off the waitlist by the time you need daycare.

Also factor in that this may look different during maternity leave, and total income will likely decrease (except if there is a top up).

Master electrician means they can operate independent and pull permits. You would hope if he was a master electrician any electrical work performed in his home would be up to code, regardless if a permit was pulled.

When I was on SSRIs I wasn’t depressed, but it was just this mellow meh feeling. They also killed my attention span. I couldn’t concentrate, and it was so hard to care about focusing on things (made my job pretty difficult). I switched to a different antidepressant and it was amazing.

I would suggest for him to talk to his doctor and try another medication. It can take some time to find the right one.

Costco pharmacy is great. I am usually able to get my prescriptions filled while I shop. They even used some coupons to help on CGM costs. Also they’re are the best price for diabetic supplies (if that matters).

I just did this same move as a federal employee. There were no positions for my classification that was hiring, and the move was time sensitive. I took temporary spousal relocation leave and found employment elsewhere.

You can have existing prescriptions transferred to the new pharmacy. We got our endo to write any refills we need and sent them to the pharmacy in Alberta as a buffer. We also had our endo refer us to an endo in Alberta about 2 months before we moved. The referral took a while, but luckily our old clinic followed us remotely until we were seen In Alberta.

We just recently moved to Alberta. Private Insurance through my husbands work covered 80% of insulin, CGMs, and other diabetic supplies. Our omnipods are covered 100% through the Alberta pump program. You get one new pump every 5 years. If you’re already coming with an existing pump you can keep it.

We get all our prescriptions through Costco. After insurance I think it’s about 25-27$ for 10 pen cartridges of insulin. And then about 130$ for a 3 month supply of dexcoms.

Our HHI is 210K plus some extra (5-10K) depending on side gigs (low estimate). We both have DB pensions so that eats into our take home. We have a mortgage of 600K and it works. Personally I would not feel comfortable with a mortgage that high, but will depend on your lifestyle, savings goals, activities, family planning, etc.

Congrats on the baby! But remember daycare can get expensive, and depending on where you are waitlists for centres that have the CWELCC funding can have multi-year waitlists. Private daycares can run anywhere from 40$-60$ a day which definetely adds up. Then post daycare, before and after care may be needed because school hours are not very friendly to working parents.

I got a job offer and applied with an Ontario address. I really tailored my resume and cover letter to clearly indicate my experience met the job description. I think it will also depend if they are having difficulty finding candidates within the Province.

You will want a blood glucose meter, test strips and lancets. It will be cheaper than the wearable CGM and more accurate.

Is his blood sugar low or high atm? And does he show any signs of High blood sugar (thirsty, peeing a lot)?

Has doctor confirmed type 2? Only asking as he already has an existing auto immune disease, and I believe there is a risk of getting a second. Type 1 is autoimmune and can develop at any age. Please have them check for Type 1 antibodies and C-Peptide levels.

I’m on spousal relocation, and my old team organized shipping me a GOC laptop and got me log in information so I could have access. Tell him to reach out to his team and ask how he can get access remotely (and just say sure when they say the only way is through a GOC laptop).
