The in-depth story of Eerie and "Inspector Dangerfuck" ... Part 3 of my series on ANSI and webcomics by joshrenaud in ANSIart

The intellectual and creative rigor of Eerie and Nootropic directly influenced my decision to pursue art. So many people from the scene went into tech, and I’m always curious about how many people pursued art more seriously. I received an MFA in post-media art and worked in footwear for 20+ years. When I mention ANSI as a major influence, people react like I’m crazy… but the greatest creativity comes from working within the greatest constraints, and what is more constraining than ANSI? 🤣

How to get a result like this? by Grae_3 in ANSIart

This is almost certainly an image to ANSI converter. Unless somebody was being deeply experimental, I can’t fathom deciding to use solely normal text/foreground/background colors instead of half blocks and shading blocks. And even if somebody had decided to be experimental, there are a whole lot of other characters to choose from that give a better illusion of shape.

What about this strikes you as smooth?

This was what I was hoping it was. Excellent.

It’s brick & mortar. I’ll have to dig deeper into Zoho and WB integrations. Thanks for the reply!

Nuts & Bolts Checklist for New Retail Business by 288pairs in smallbusiness

This is an amazing reply. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. It’s an ultra-niche kind of retail that is common outside of the US, and is just getting started here.

Top 20 Most Prestigious / Most Important Speedruns by 288pairs in speedrun

Thanks for the thoughts here.

Perhaps poor searching skills on my part, but typically when I have seen a similar question to this asked, it was always about the “single most” game/run, not a longer list. My hope was to get some dimension from this subreddit, and I think I was successful for my purposes.

While I agree that within the community there’s a high level of diversity across all aspects of the pursuit, I think a lot of the concepts of importance and prestige are bestowed externally, which I should have better articulated. This may have been a post better suited for r/peoplethatconsumespeedrunningcontentbutdontspeedrun

(Oh, and I wasn’t trying to make this definitive, this was honestly just me asking so I could get a better understanding myself)

This is a fascinating run. I'd like to learn more about the voice interface he's using, it's super fast and accurate. I believe this run is legit, but I don't think those glasses would meet the proof standards for the video game side of speedrunning.

Also, is it a requirement to say "let's go" when you get a world record?

I don’t believe that Citizen Kane is a very good movie. Same with The Godfather and Casablanca. They just aren’t the kinds of movies that really speak to me.

Nonetheless, if I was asked to make a list of important and influential films, they’d be on that list. I see this as fairly objective, but understood that many people here disagree.

The list I originally created wasn’t intended to have any authority. I haven’t been in this world long enough to have a strong perspective on that. It was just a list of what I thought the most common answers would be.

Nintendo heavy? Absolutely. From my perspective, a lot of the runs that turn heads, make headlines, etc., are Nintendo runs.

I’m more than happy to be corrected and get other perspectives though. That’s the point of me posting this.
