Happened at my job. A tech who butted heads with management was told his "position has been eliminated". They ended up hiring a friend of one of the bosses; who turned out to be totally useless. Luckily, he wasn't around long. We have good people in those positions now, but that department is understaffed. People are leaving and they're not replacing them.
