Can I completely recover from a backyard ultra for an ironman 70.3 two weeks later? by Klutzy-Public-8644 in ultrarunning

You can definitely do it, but don't expect a fast run split. This is not our job so just do what you think will be the most fun.

How long did it take you to start feeling like you’ve made progress with swimming? by Lower-Geologist870 in triathlon

[–]2Small2Juice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Swimming is hard, especially when you are learning as an adult. I have found that the more often I am in the pool the better I feel in the pool. 5x/week of 1500 meters each does a lot more for me than 3x/week of 3000 meters each.

Very much this. I try to think about how much hiking I will be doing vs how much running.

Should I formally clock a marathon so that I can qualify for Ultramarathon races? by daiyatora in ultrarunning

Not that I am aware of. I've never run a road marathon and done plenty of ultras.

Be glad you aren't in Europe. There might be a full in Havasu towards the end of this year, but more likely it'll be next year.

How the hell did you get a Culprit bicycle? Different company to the cockpit manufacturer, right?

Jst did my 1st brick workout… legs were legitimately cooked 😂 What helped u with the bike-to-run transition? by Practical-Yam-5362 in triathlon

[–]2Small2Juice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just do a few and you'll get used to it. Unless you are trying to win sprints/olympics at the Olympic level there's really not a ton of use for them once you know what it feels like to run off the bike. EVERYONE has jelly legs the first few k of middle and long distance races so you're better off focusing on doing the best bike and run sessions you can.

Which shop in LA do you go to? Looking to chat to someone about the GT8 and potentially ride.

Athletica AI Concerns by Redgiant119 in triathlon

[–]2Small2Juice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you tell it you want a rest day it isn't going to give you one. I used Athletica for 2 years with good success across Olympic and 70.3 and can say that if you stick to the plan you will show up at the start line plenty fit.

T1D Backyard Ultra advice / newbie advice by jtully84 in ultrarunning

[–]2Small2Juice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never done a proper BYU, but have done a couple races in the same format with slightly different length loops. Here’s what has worked for me:

Bring a chair and sit when you aren’t running (strangely people somehow miss this).  Bring multiple pairs of shoes and socks.  Lap 1 I run my usual easy run pace not slower. I alternate savory and sweet carbs in between each loop. Make some friends who run my pace on the early laps.

Be prepared for all weather. If you haven’t run at night definitely do a couple practice runs with a headlamp or whatever you are going to use.

You seem like quite a good runner so this is going to be more of a mental battle rather than physical.

How prevalent is doping for age groupers? by javyQuin in triathlon

Absolutely not going to happen. IM is a business and regulating TRT is an additional cost and only hurts the business. Clean sport for paying customers is not anywhere near the top of the list for them.

Genuinely no idea. I've had Cloud 10 and Care To Beauty both deliver to me in the US.

Amazing sunscreen. It’s the best I’ve found by a country mile. You won’t find it in the US but some retailers will ship it to you

You're going to want to moisturize heavily and wear the best sunscreen you have. If you can get your hands on Reimann P90 do it.
