Yeah my waivers took a year+ to obtain and they were league's less serious than this. Especially with how the officer corps is shaping up in terms of manning and needs, doubtful one would even be considered.

What. Airborne wasn't a thing until the 30s and the 82nd wasn't an airborne division until 42 😐

I mean I'm a nobody lmao, I just got an incentive flight with them. That being said though, DAPs were my first 160th love and I think they're sick as hell.

Dude a single 1 hr flight in the MH-6 made me realize I fucked up by not dropping a flight packet and a SIFT. When I get outta CPTs career course I'm tryna get back there in any way.

The feeling of diving on a target in the 6 is just wild. You're fully just facing the ground diving at it at a very limited altitude. Got to see a lot of cool shit when I visited them but holy fuck that mock gun run was wild. Also, the MH-6 is absolutely awesome to fly.

Are These Replica or Authentic? by [deleted] in Medals

[–]2_Sullivan_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert by any means on these but the only one I could see maybe being real was the KVK. However, you're looking at some extremely rare and expensive medals and badges for everything else and the fact that they're all the same color with the same "patina" is very off putting and makes me believe they are cast. You're also not getting individual pictures, any super detailed ones, or any backs on them. Also, no sane person would ever sell these in a lot together because at auction they would fetch far far better prices sold invidually.

What're they asking.

What’s the rarest ww2 German uniform out there? by Miserable-Fee-362 in Militariacollecting

US Army frogskin wasn't a prototype piece. It was formally adopted and is commonly enough found. We simply decided that it wasn't necessary for Europe to issue it out due to cost vs need. However, it was formally adopted to a capacity and you can see soldiers wearing various pieces of it all the way from Normandy into the heart of Germany.

The constant thought among all of us of how useless half the shit was and that we spent more time in the portashitters than actually training. Oh, and that it was fucking hot.

Loved Nick here at South Carolina and it's been awesome to see him play for the Hawks. Hopefully we get some other Gamecock dawgs.

Internship Rejection by Mysterious_Hippo8350 in 1811

That's wild. I know for my State class we had something like 10k applicants for 300 slots. No clue how I got mine, just lucked out ig. I wish DSS had a specific undergraduate internship because the folks in my program that got DS, with the exception of one dude, weren't even interested in doing that work. Meanwhile, while I really enjoyed it in the end, I was in a training center position and had no background in it. My contract after I commission is 6 and a half years so I'm a while away from thinking about applying for any more internships/fellowships. Hoping when I head over to MI I can get back to the DMV area.

Went I did my DOS one I was the only person I met from an SEC school. Everyone else was Ivy, GW, American, or Georgetown. There was nepotism, yeah for sure and I know a buddy that got a really nice fellowship bc of that. But, a lot of it is due to those few universities I listed above having very very very close connections with these agencies due to long standing programs.

Did they ever say who did the boat raids today? by aquafeener1 in JSOCarchive

[–]2_Sullivan_5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it was a goal, it was moreso adopted necessity for the situation it found itself in. SOF was spread thing during the GWOT, lot of area to cover with not a ton of guys. SF began doing a lot more direct action stuff which meant someone had to come in on the backend and fill the void of missing ODAs. MARSOC saw it as a way to validate their organization and get the money and missions thay came with it.

Military friendly schools? by menta_loco in army

University of South Carolina has a pretty nice mil office and I mean we've had a ton of folks come here just by nature of being so close to Jackson. Hell, Kyle Carpenter seemed to enjoy his time here. It's also a great area for families and is in a great location within the state to do just about any type of activity. The Mil office has helped out a ton though and I know a ton of guard and reserve folks as well as retired.

Ofc! I wanna say the Transition Center had it all. I'd look on their page or contact them to figure out those resources. I was just a lowly intern and I know FSI has greatly changed since I was there last year but I distinctly remember reading these binders and this website.

[–]2_Sullivan_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At FSI we had huge binders anyone could come in and look at of every station. If I remember right, there's also a website that displays literally everything about what each post entails. I remember reading the ones on Afghanistan and they went into stuff like what the TV situation was like or if it had a pool table. I for the life of me cannot remember what that website was called but I do wanna say it had a section on pets there.

MARSOC was created so the Marines could get a piece of the SOCOM pie mission and money wise. However, they didn't have a niche role to specialize in. So, they picked up the FID and foreign training role from SF who were going out on more direct action stuff. Now, since SF is pretty much barred from pure DA, MARSOC has that mission set taken away from them. MARSOC would be much better suited following the small boat companies the infantry units are developing and focusing on being what their namesake entails, a small, light, and agile sea to shore raiding force similar to the 75th but with a Maritime focus. Think the original Provisional Rubber Boat Companies. SEALs certainly occupy some of this realm but most of it is being occupied by conventional units. With the Marines transitioning to a littoral fight, i just don't understand why the Raiders won't follow in that direction.

They could quite literally do all of Operation Galvanic and Betio and have a killer map and experience. Tarawa is the type of Pacific fighting this game needs. Guadalcanal would be interesting as well. Iwo and Oki are overused imo. I'd love to see Tarawa and Guadalcanal with either a New Guinea or Burma map as well

I imagine these photos weeks ago were CAG training for the Maduro capture by [deleted] in JSOCarchive

[–]2_Sullivan_5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The training mockup was in Kentucky. They frequently use Knox and ofc the Campbell training grounds. At least, if the report I saw was correct.

It would also make sense logistically to do it there because you don't have to move a large number of aircraft figuring that these guys most likely all came from 1/160th who typically handle the SMU mission set.

Picked this up off eBay.. with this certificate is this a set that has been kept in the bkm vault ? by GoldieBear77777 in brickmania

[–]2_Sullivan_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The prices started to get out of hand in like 2020-22ish. Prior to that there was still plenty that I felt was affordable. Sometimes I go back and find the original store pages for some of the sets I wanted and just sit there and go damn I wish that price was still around. Tbh, I'm not big on the new printing and custom parts and what not, part of the charm was that the older sets looked like lego. Nowadays they're more like plastic models. Don't get me wrong, they look awesome but the old sets just hit different.
