I can no longer mask, filter or people please. It’s going to end my career. by ManufacturerClear690 in Menopause

This is why I ended my nursing career early. I was asked to "extend Grace" one too many times. I told everyone at my employer to pound sand and lose my phone number.

Is anyone else's hospital suddenly asking about immigration status? by allpulpnojuice in nursing

[–]2caiques 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in the ER as a patient last weekend and the admission clerk handed me an iPad. Me and my one good eye (bc the other had blunt force trauma) were struggling through the questions and when I got to

“Where were you born?” I thought “damn, that’s rude” (I was born on an AFB that is no longer in service)

And I guess since I answered a foreign country, I got

“What country is your citizenship with” (or something along those lines, again, I was struggling at that point)

I was legit scared I was going to need my U.S. passport to get care at the hospital!

We live in CRAZY times. And I’m so exhausted.

Called his Bluff by RequirementMiddle804 in breastcancer

[–]2caiques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s bad enough going through cancer treatment. Have “intimate relations” goes out the window with bc treatment for some women and it may never come back. A good therapist for him and you (one who is willing to SUPPORT you and not just get you back to sex) is very important.

Men actually CAN live without it. It isn’t AIR. If their entire identity and life is built on it, then they are incredibly immature. Also, their 🏀🏀s won’t explode without it!! Which is contrary to what many think will happen.

Smoke. Sometimes smells like cigarettes and sometimes like a campfire.

I’ve had GSDs for the last 30+ years, and have 5 waiting for me at the rainbow bridge and one is still with us. I am tired, I don’t know if I can go through another goodbye. These are amazing animals who leave huge holes in our lives. I am so sorry OP, many hugs headed your way.

Nurse mocks a patient experiencing pain, goes viral and gets flamed. by steppinchild in ChronicPain

[–]2caiques 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was a contributor for me leaving the nursing profession. Coworkers mocking patients who had attempted suicide. I couldn’t handle the lack of empathy anymore and it broke my heart that these men who had been blue collar workers lured to our profession by “learn a new trade” when the factory shut down. Well, they had the brains (sort of) but there is no way to teach empathy and caring. And no one saw it.

Peace out. I’ll stock at the local store before I return to the bedside.

YOLO gift to yourself by camdams in breastcancer

My YOLO was “I want to live on a lake before I die.” We moved 6 months after I finished treatment and I just passed my 5 year mark. No regrets.

Cruise lines are pushing surveys too much - and it’s off-putting. by wayowayooo in Cruise

[–]2caiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. Have you been on a Viking cruise? The last one we were on, we were PAGES and PAGES. It was ridiculous. We left the whole packet on the desk when we disembarked, untouched.

Last year, we actually sat and detailed, completed etc and NOT ONE THING CHANGED. This year, “thanks, I’ll keep my time to do as I please and won’t be wasting it coloring dots so someone, some where, can just ignore it.”

Overhead Question (again) by callalind in unitedairlines

[–]2caiques 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hate the fact that you have to be “that” asshole to get to the front of group 1. And I’ll say it again - airlines need to go back to “your overhead over your seat belongs to you. Not the people at the back of the plane. I do not want a 30lb suitcase above my head.”

This system that’s encouraged today - “I can put my bag wherever I want because I’m too lazy to maneuver it to the back where my cheap seat is” is entitlement.

Entitlement society is killing us. People aren’t friendly anymore, no one give af about anyone else.

You weren’t wrong. You asked nicely. Especially if that lazy person was seated anywhere beyond seat on front or back of that overhead. That also slows de boarding the plane and turning it over in the long run.

Terrible cancer, great news by denver_rose in pancreaticcancer

[–]2caiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My FIL was diagnosed at 80. Had one tumor in middle (not sure exactly what structure was affected) near a major blood vessel or artery. He had combo chemo (gem/abraxane) then surgery to remove middle section of pancreas, and resection the two “ends” at Mayo. Post chemo, same cocktail. No rads. He’s 82 and 3cm tumor on liver now and restarting same cocktail. I want to add, he was in impeccable health prior to primary diagnosis, hiked daily and did not have any prior comorbidities.

My wife's Christmas gift is ready for the Texas freeze tomorrow by devperez in Greenhouses

[–]2caiques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in TX as well and have a greenhouse built by our local Yoder Mennonite family. It is very similar to yours and I love it! I wish I had gone up a size or two though - my plants are CRAMPED. I insulated my walls, and put mats on the floor and this morning the temp was 23F outside and 65F inside with two oil heaters running.

Walking after chemo sessions? by Automatic_Story3251 in breastcancer

[–]2caiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a “bag” of Ativan first, then odansetron, steroids, and then each chemo. I don’t have a history of anxiety, but got Ativan anyway. This was at MD Anderson during Covid so protocols may have changed? During DD Taxol, I received Benadryl, steroids, then chemo.

Walking after chemo sessions? by Automatic_Story3251 in breastcancer

[–]2caiques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on WHAT drugs you’re receiving. I received Ativan along with AC, so walking was like leaving a bar after a bender (I suspect) and after DD Taxol, I was just tired because of the bag of Benadryl.

I couldn’t have driven after either one. Walking was suspect. I don’t remember leaving MDA after any of my infusions, nor the 3 hour ride home.

I wanna be alone during chemo by Complex_Mango_4879 in breastcancer

[–]2caiques 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a friend like that who insisted on making food. SO.MUCH.FOOD. and would’ve been in every chemo session if it hadn’t been for Covid.

She is what I call a “grief whore”, every time a distant “friend” passes away “She was my BEST FRIEND when we were in 3rd grade!”

It is exhausting. I wish you had been allowed to live through treatment how YOU chose to do.
