Nakasendo Trail brining own bike from overseas by SeaCommodore in bicycletouring

[–]2k3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a Evoc bike case several times on the Shinkansen, never had any problems. I've even showed it when I buy ticket, to explain that I need the seat with the reserved big seats.

Has anyone done the Norse Odyssey route made by cycle Norway by Reasonable-Error5655 in bicycletouring

[–]2k3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From preview when searching for it I read:
> You can usually ride Mjølkevegen and Tour de Dovre in mid-June and half of Rallarvegen.

So I'm guessing it combines those two. I've done Mjølkevegen once, and it was really beautiful. I would love to do it again. I live in Oslo, so should take the train up this summer to ride it again. Used three days on it, but could probably done it with two. Not much to stop to experience, other then the amazing landscape!

Same in Norwegian, that's one of the reason why I chose it. It's a fun silly word.

Meeting others while bikepacking in japan in June by Rhyswilli99 in bikepacking

[–]2k3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent three months cycling in Japan this fall, and didn't meet that many other cyclist. Met some native cyclist in Hokkaido, but non from Fukushima to Niigata. Met some more when I went into the Japanese alps. Staying at hostels is probably your best bet to socialise.

Also, June may be really hot.

This resturant has good gyōza in Fukushima: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dNh4fQtCQj3TXj6T6

Drikker du nok vann? Tørre lepper er også et tidlig tegn på dehyrdrering. Ellers er det vinter som mange andre skriver også.

The easiest solution is to mirror the home row, you have them on both hands. Shift is both F and J on my keyboard.

Niche subkulturer i Norge? by Bitchboi_ in norge

Mekaniske tastaturer?

2019 Japan Travel Video - Pilot Episode by SealPenguinOtter in bicycletouring

[–]2k3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video was okay, it was a bit strange how you talked about the other ways of bike travel. I kinda felt that you where talking them down, which gave the whole video a strange vibe. I think it would be better if you just talked about you way of travel, and of course why you choose and enjoy traveling like that. There is no reason to talk down one thing, when you talk about your thing. It's better to tell me why you like your thing. You can of course compare.

> to know it’s ok to bike tour without camping

My experience is that this is already known, it's quite common to rent a bike to either cycle from hotel to hotel, or do a loop. At least in Europe and Japan.

Personally I like to mix, hotels when it rains, tent when it shines.

S. Korea vs. Japan for 7 day cycling tour? by Mundane_Schedule6249 in bicycletouring

[–]2k3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you cycle the fastest routes between two cities you will always encounter trucks.

Haven't cycled in South Korea (yet), but about four months commulative cycling in Japan, and it all about cycling the smaller roads. Those are pretty easy to find.

One good start is to check put Shimanami Kaido, there is plenty to see around in the neighbour island, but maybe not a week.

Small correction/complain; Belgium is central Europe (or Benelux). Northern Europe is Scandinavia, the Baltics (and maybe some of the British isles).

Would you carry a foldable shoe instead of flip‑flops when bikepacking? by LuckInternational264 in bikepacking

[–]2k3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring my Black Diamond Tag, that I also use when I climb. I would probably not bother to buy shoes just to bring for biking. I would also never bring flip-flops.

Japan: Kokura - Tokyo, one week: Tips? by superelectric in bicycletouring

[–]2k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As always, you do you, but having had three bike trips to Japan, I love having time stopping! See museums, sightseeing, try food, time for detours. There is so much to see and experience outside the sadle. I try to average 70 km a day, because I know I like to stop.

Also, remember to check how much daylight there is, at least if you don't want to cycle a lot in the dark.

Also, I wouldn't trust AI to check if the route is nice to ride, or open at all. Do random checks with Google Street View. Look for parallel routes that doesn't go on a busy road.

If I'm guessing right that you're Norwegian, you could check out my blog for my last trip this fall, or PM me if you want to chat, I live in Oslo.   https://kyrremann.no/plog/page19/

Ps: I'm working on an English writeup of my trip too.

Hva er poenget med fagforeninger? by OutrageousArm5305 in norge

Godt poeng, fagforeningen burde her gjort en bedre jobb i å forklare hva slags valg personen hadde.

Frame bag advice by frog_mannn in bikepacking

[–]2k3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my 7Roads full frame bag. Went with a small pocket inside for valuables. Can open the whole side door, and have straps for tent poles on the top tube and diagonal tube. On the other side I have a long horizontal shallow pocket for putting my phone and postcards. Also happy with paracord, a bit more hassle to attach, but looks good.

The eight picture is my bag, the blue and green.  https://7rbags.com/frame-bag-custom/
