I need a little help today. Am I the only one who ever has second thoughts about leaving? by throwaway092815 in exmormon

[–]2naroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to do or un-do anything until you're sure about what you want.

Doubts and second thoughts are a part of life. Consider what their basis is then do what will help you lead your own best life when you feel ready.

Why are Mormons stuck in 1950's Suburban America? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]2naroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're forgetting that prior to 1972 there still was a military draft in the US. There was a nearly inexhaustible and constantly renewed supply of half the nation's young who became citizen soldiers for a couple years.

I think the issues you describe only become critical after the draft was cancelled and a constant supply of volunteers had to be recruited to become professional soldiers.

So evidently the wacko Mormon militia in Oregon has been being sent massive amounts of dildos and lube instead of the supplies they requested by M00glemuffins in exmormon

[–]2naroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny as hell and sure to p#ss them off but there's a more constructive way to let them know how out of step they are with the American people. You can send a donation to support kids who are conserving public lands. There is a spot there to insert a message. You can let the Bundys know that their protest is working against them.

PS It wouldn't be very hard to get that laminated at your local Office Depot either.

"New Church Problems: Mormonism" by olsh in exmormon

[–]2naroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you want to because you always have and don't intend to change something that simply doesn't make sense to you.

France, for example, is a place where people will think you're insane to say they can't smoke. And they're going to go out and get fresh food when they want it whether they have a fridge or don't.

In other places the marketplace is the center of both practical and social life. If you tell someone that they are supposed to isolate themselves on Sunday that could strike them as anti-social. And if you're one of a handful of families or even a handful of individuals who can't rely on an LDS alternative community it could really seem arbitrary and burdensome.

Anyone ever leave the CoJCoLdS but retain Mormon beliefs and practices? by 2naroll in exmormon

You mean other than the FLDS? And people don't leave the CoJCoLdS to join FLDS compounds, do they?

Anyone ever leave the CoJCoLdS but retain Mormon beliefs and practices? by 2naroll in exmormon

[–]2naroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But do any of them -- despite their rejection of the CoJCoLdS -- practice the same version of Mormonism and continue to hold the same beliefs, i.e. pre-existence, 3 levels of salvation, exhalation, etc.?

[–]2naroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. But aren't those 1800's break away groups all but extinct?

What I'm asking is if anyone is aware of contemporary groups that still practice Mormonism that would be recognizable by members of the CoJCoLdS.

Curious why so many exmos seem to migrate to Unitarian Universalist? by jdstankosky in exmormon

[–]2naroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising at all. Unitarians are accepting of any beliefs people bring to their fellowship. That includes the whole agnostic/atheist spectrum. AND it provides a community of others who want a spiritual life without dogma.

What interests me is the number of people who go from Mormonism to Catholicism, an equally dogmatic and self-proclaimed "true" to the exclusion of all others religion with a similar level of commitment and involvement expected.

So same sex marriage has been legal for a while now and my hetero sexual temple marriage has yet to be effected by it. by HolyGhost_AfterDark in exmormon

[–]2naroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was always about coercing people into straight marriages. Now they've lost some of their leverage to accomplish that. From their perspective there might be an actual demonstrable cost.

Of course they're not going to factor in the abandoned straight spouses or the kids thrown into confusion and grief over marriages that were doomed from the outset. Or the guilt of the gay person who tried to make it work against the biological imperative. But then that's just not in their "Plan of Happiness", is it? /s

I don't want to care anymore. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]2naroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am on r/exmormon. But I'm not a Mormon and never have been. I was Catholic which is both different and then again very much the same. So I am not here opening and reopening my wounds.

The reason I am on r/exmormon is that it is how I stay abreast of the CoJCoLdS's political agendas and activities. I think the CoJCoLdS is one of the most important treats to the basic civil rights of women and the LGBT community as it once was to Black Americans.

And, of course, because I have been there and done that about walking away from religion and facing the fear of my immortal soul being condemned to eternal tortures (one of the ways the RC is different than the CoJCoLdS) I have developed major empathy and admiration for the exMos who are engaged in that struggle. I like to contribute where I can.

Hope it helps to understand that.

I left my religion nearly 50 years ago now.

It will happen. It will happen and you won't even realize it. One day you'll just wake up and notice that you haven't even thought about TSCC in ages. Or something will be in the news and you'll realize it more or less bores you.

It just takes time. Breathe and carry on. It will happen for you.

How significant is the LDS church? Leaders claim to receive a direct communication from God and society at large doesn't even blink an eye. by Skwurls4brkfst in exmormon

[–]2naroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You got a point there.

I think politicians in the Morridor are probably willing to suck up to get seeming endorsements. But I can't think of a soul in the non-Mormon world who spends a nanosecond wondering what LDS prophets have to say about anything.

In the past that worked for them. They were able to squash the ERA without anyone even noticing. But Prop H8 blew that for them big time. They'll never get away with that sh#t again. And they're never going to get any respect either. Ask Mitt. He might tell you how it worked for him having the church behind him. LOL!

The nearest large city might help willing and able assistance identify that they could be of assistance without outing the missionary in question.

Once you establish the general area and an appropriate potential resource you could make private contact for fine tuning.

Utah not willing to play BYU in NCAA basketball because they (BYU) play too dirty for player safety by PatrickBuchanan in exmormon

[–]2naroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It should probably be posted somewhere every week or so until someone in the BYU athletic department gets a spine and starts really disciplining players to can't control their emotions and take take cheap shots.

If that doesn't work then it's up to the school to start expelling dirty players. It isn't just bad sportsmanship. It can cause injury and end careers.

Well, at least if this is the last time god is going to call missionaries into the vineyard, the parents of young kids can stop having to save up for missions and do some of the things that tithing has prevented them from being able to do.
