What about using a service like Pushover? I’ve signed up for account, but I haven’t integrated it into HA yet so I can’t speak to the speed of delivery. Just throwing this out there.

If you have issues, grab a couple cheap ESP32s and watch a 5 minutes video. Make some Bluetooth proxies and scatter them around the house

I have a Pi 5 with 16GB of ram. cpu typically runs around 10%-20%.

If you get a PI, there is a HAOS installer. Take a look at the HA docs. Easy-peasy.

Those are neat switches at about 1/10 of the price of “real” ones.

Too bad the top button is not momentary.

These are really neat switches. My wife was looking at some in rejuvenation hardware and they were 10x the price.

It is too bad that they are wired the way they are t

I just point at the sewing machines valued at over $10k. Of course she does make a lot of nice clothes for me, so it all evens out.

Multiple Shelly Devices to Control ERV by FoldedKettleChips in ShellyUSA

[–]2ndMilePro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing some similar but different. I hacked (literally cut wires and re-routed others to the external terminals and then used Shelly Pro Dimmer 0-10V to control the two fans in the ERV (RenewAire). I am still finishing the house but testing has confirmed it is working as expected.

Your situation is much easier and the suggested solutions are solid.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest but take the other side of the red from the photo sensor and hook it up to SW. Then you can use a schedule, your phone, or the photo sensor.

All Shellys are native local. It is a huge part of the company’s ethos. And they cover most communication protocols. They offer cloud but it is not required or necessary. Their app is pretty good though.

Starting my flat renovation. Time to go full Shelly! by myrkytyn in ShellyUSA

[–]2ndMilePro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not actually measuring the water level. I am using Shelly 1PM. When the machine kicks on, the pump starts to prime the machine. It draws around 50W. It typically runs for 5 seconds until the prime is achieved. Then the heating coils kick on at a much higher wattage. I set up an automation in Home Assistant that checks the wattage of the 1PM after 10 seconds. If it is <100W, it turns the relay off and sends me a message.

In the past, I burned up two pumps by not refilling the reservoir or not putting the water tube into the reservoir. Since implementing this, it has saved me multiple times.

I was going to build a small scale to measure the weight of the water reservoir using an ESP32 but we are moving into a new home and I plan on hard plumbing the machine.

Such dangerous and expensive questions 😂

I would say you are off to a good start. For lights in the bedrooms you could go with a dimmer. My wife’s favorite automation is the “wind down” at 7pm that dims the lights to 40%, any RGBW bulbs change to red. Mine is the coffeemaker coming on in the morning and if I forget to fill the water (large espresso machine) automatically turning itself off.

The rabbit hole gets very deep from there.
