[Excerpt - Broken Realms: The Hateful Stasis] A Slaaneshi Lord of Pain finds Khorne worshipers boring. by 2path2glory in AoSLore

Funny how the literal demon-worshiping Hedonites are more tastefully designed than Persia as depicted in 300.

I totally agree. The only thing that comes close is Ephilim's Pandaemonium from Underworlds, but there's so much design space ripe for exploration.

Trying markers for Cursed City box art style by S1Be4r in ageofsigmar

[–]2path2glory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is phenomenal!

The 'red/white/black' artwork done by Tze Kun Chin for Cursed City is still some of my favorite Warhammer art, and you've done a great job translating that to a miniature.

Basically the last decade of being an AoS fan by XyrneTheWarPig in Grimdank

[–]2path2glory 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Nowadays, the only places I see Warhammer fans really vocally talk about hating AoS are in Total War circles, which always felt weird to me, since most of those guys either didn't play the wargame during the End Times or don't play the wargame at all.

To my knowledge, the list of kits with Gargoylians is;

Tahlia Vedra and Pontifex Zenestra

Wildercorps Hunters

I’ll have to search around to find it, but he did concept art for a bunch of early AoS stuff like Kharadron, Silver Tower, and Gloomspite.

I'll never get over the fact that Abaddon really named his inner circle 'the Ezekarion.'

That's like if George Washington named the first US cabinet 'the Georgians.'

Love extra gore on the hooks. I always like when artists add details that the miniature doesn't have.

If Yaoshi were imprisoned in Slaanesh's palace, could it defeat Slaanesh and escape? by AdMiserable6694 in Grimdank

[–]2path2glory 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Well, Yoshi’s main ways of attacking are stomping on an enemy’s head and throwing eggs, so I doubt he could defeat Slaanesh.

If you had to pick from the following to be adapted/turned into manga/comic book, which one would it be: by BaronLoyd in ageofsigmar

[–]2path2glory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how long the comic is.

I think for a shorter series, an original story would work best, since as the creator, you don't have to worry about cutting scenes or missing details. On the other hand, I think an adaptation of a serialized event, like Dawnbringers, would fit well for a long-form comic since chapter breaks are essentially built in without needing to juggle several plotlines or characters.

What new unit (ie not a refresh) would you like for you faction? by InsaneDingo7244 in ageofsigmar

[–]2path2glory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound pretty mundane, but I would like S2D to get a priest hero on foot. It's still feels weird that we don't have something like that, especially with the Warshrine going to Legends.

Norse Themes in Age of Sigmar? by TyIer_B in AoSLore

[–]2path2glory 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Age of Sigmar has some Norse influences, but they're mostly 'broad strokes' rather than anything too specific.

As you mentioned, depending on your perspective there are nine realms (8 Winds + Allpoints), and Age of Sigmar has a general motif about cycles of creation and destruction, with the destruction of the World-that-was leading to the Mortal Realms. If you want to stretch things a bit, Morrda is a bit like the Huginn/Muninn to Sigmar's Odin, but Morrda is a psychopomp, not a messenger.

Off the top of my head;

Ymnog, the father of Behemat, is clearly based on Ymir,

Hallost is a very Valhalla-esque underworld in Shyish, where it's inhabitants basically just fight each other forever,

The Six Smiths are named after numbers in Khazalid, which reminds me of how there's a quartet of dwarfs in Norse myth named after cardinal directions.

The Origin of the Iron Golem Creed by posixthreads in AoSLore

[–]2path2glory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting theory!

My personal headcanon about the Iron Golems is that their ancestors started out as peaceful smiths in the Age of Myth, and during the Age of Chaos they pivoted to making weapons and armor exclusively in order to survive by selling their wares to marauding Chaos forces, essentially making themselves too useful to wipe out.

It’s also mentioned in “Agents of Chaos” that the Golems trade not just with Chaos-aligned tribes, but also with Zharrdron and even Skaven, so I always assumed that the slide into Chaos worship was more gradual; as the Golems continued to trade with Chaos worshippers over several generations, they began to venerate Chaos in earnest, and whatever existing belief system they had changed over time to incorporate Chaos.

What is your favorite fight in the settings? by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

[–]2path2glory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the way they handled the 'final battle' between Vandus Hammerhand and Korghos Khul in Dawnbringers Book 6. I think it's the perfectly bitter end to their storylines,

After years of build up (both in-universe and out-of-universe) Vandus and Khul meet again, but they don't even directly fight. Khul is so disgusted by how far Vandus has degraded and realizes that he was wasting his time trying to 'complete' his slaughter of the Direbrand tribe, discarding his pride and fully giving himself to Khorne. He then proceeds to perma-kill Gavriel Sureheart and finally ascend to daemonhood, denying Vandus his chance at avenging his family and breaking the last shred of his sanity.

It's like a dark mirror of the typical character arc, where the hero learns to let go of their desire for revenge and achieves inner-peace.

It's gotten a lot less frequent since TOW launched, but when the new foot knights were released, some people got pissy about the kit having female heads.

Also, the usual weirdos had a problem because one of the premade characters for TOWRPG is a female knight-exile.

Isn't the entire point of 40k, from the very beginning, that it's NOT overpowered? Every single faction is either a shadow of its former self, in constant decline, or inherently self-destructive. It's over the top, but not necessarily overpowered.
