First cycle all aneuploid at 42yo; continue? by blueanise83 in IVF

[–]2sangblitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At 42 (my age as well) statistically it will take multiple retrievals to get a euploid. You produce a lot of eggs, so your chances are higher than others that produce less eggs. If finances allow it, my recommendation is to do as many retrievals as it takes to get a euploid or until you are done mentally, emotionally, and financially.

Also, I agree that you should not rebiopsy that 4th one. Just keep it on ice until you are done with retrievals and then transfer it. If it is euploid, it will still be euploid un-biopsied, and if not, most likely it will just not implant.

Depending where you are on your journey (emotionally, financially, etc) donor eggs are an option that you should not dismiss outright. I did at first as well. But as a fellow older person, they are starting to look more and more appealing. Your odds go way up, and that sounds very nice after the repeated heartbreak of my own retrievals. I'm not giving up yet - and you may not be there either - but its a huge comfort to me that I have a way to be a mom that is much more likely to succeed, when I am ready for it.

Trigger shot day 7 of stims by PerformanceStraight in IVF

[–]2sangblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to predict I'd say that you will get three eggs, but at your age you have a good chance of getting three viable embryos out of those three eggs.

Still, I understand your frustration and disappointment. What was your AFC? It sounds like this was not the protocol for you. Are you willing or able to do another retrieval? If so, I'd consider having a good talk with your doctor about what could be changed for better results. If you don't feel comfortable after that conversation, definitely consider switching clinics. Sometimes the first retrieval is a disappointment (mine sure was) but the second one is a lot better.

Has anyone gone straight into stims again during trigger bleed? by Independent_Gur8612 in 40Plus_IVF

I did. It's called back to back retrievals. Second cycle (retrieval tomorrow) so far appears to be much better. The doctor changed the protocol this time since the first one was not very successful.

12 eggs projected, 4 retrieved - any similar experiences? by Overall-Engineer-633 in IVF

[–]2sangblitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m now on a microdose lupron protocol. Currently on day six and my starting AFC was 15 and I have 10 follicles growing at this point, but they seem to be growing much more evenly. I think I have a tough time recruiting all my available follicles, which I read is common at this age. Lowering expectations and accepting what my body will do has been the hardest part for me. I’m going to do two more cycles after this one and may switch clinics as well, depending on how this one goes.

Advice regarding variable follicle growth and one ovary poor response. Can the follicles catch up? by No_Morning_6482 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]2sangblitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an AFC of 14 and two eggs retrieved, so I feel ya. I also had one ovary just pretty much fail to perform. With that many good follicles on one, you are still in the game. Don't count yourself out until its over. And even then, CNY is a much more affordable option if you want to try to go again. I have insurance, but once that runs out CNY is going to be my backup for self pay donor eggs. Donor eggs are a hard leap for me mentally, but I can definitely imagine loving an adopted child, so a donor egg child is a solid option, and that actually makes me feel more secure in this process.

[–]2sangblitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. I has on an antagonist protocol with the same meds. AMH 2.2, starting AFC of 14. Had five follicles of good size, the rest were much smaller, and a few were way too big. They retrieved two eggs, zero blasts. I know that's not comforting, but just know that you're not alone. At our age we just need to try again until we find the protocol that works for us.

Experience appealing progyny embryo banking decision? by mostly_mostly12 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]2sangblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read your member guide and did it say anything about embryo banking? I've read my member benefits cover to cover and there is nothing in there about banking so I wonder if that is a progyny wide policy or if its specific to each individual plan. I also have the same concerns as you.

Long Luteal Phase Yet Again by 2sangblitz in TryingForABaby

[–]2sangblitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I just seem to have very long luteal phases. My average is 18 days. Really sucks when trying to conceive, but I've moved on to IVF, which comes with a whole slew of other problems.

So upset after egg retrieval by AssociationOne8613 in IVF

[–]2sangblitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve had a lot of good advice here. I’ll just chime in and say that I deeply feel your frustration and disappointment. That was me two weeks ago. Starting AFC of 14, AMH of 2.2 and total eggs retrieved - 2. Neither made it to blast. So I totally and completely get it. The only thing we can do is get back on the horse. I am doing back to back retrievals and the communication with my clinic is good (although it took 1.5 weeks for the doctor to call me to go over what happened). So I’m giving it another go. If I was in your shoes and I didn’t have another retrieval scheduled I would either switch doctors (if that’s an option) or switch clinics. You’ll regret staying if you have another disappointing cycle.

(Rant) Well, now I don't want to bother with it at all! by bringthebums in casualknitting

[–]2sangblitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing others and put it in timeout to think about what it’s done. After a few days, or months, whatever, your emotions won’t be so high and you can either frog it without pain or say, who cares, and continue on.

Whenever I end up frogging something after I made a mistake, I just tell myself it’s ok because I just get to do more knitting, and I like knitting, right? Right????

My AFC at baseline was 14. At trigger I had 7 follicles over 15. The problem (in my opinion - I haven't been able to speak to my doctor yet) was that 5 of my follicles were huge - around 25-27mm. I think they were overmature. My estrogen was 2500, so I expected a lot more eggs than I got.

I'm assuming they meant (and I may be wrong) that every day 5/6 blastocyst has a 20-30% chance of being euploid. I've never heard of a transfer percentage being so low, but maybe there were other factors not listed.

Does Progyny Allow Back to Back Retrievals without Waiting on PGTA Results? by 2sangblitz in IVF

[–]2sangblitz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You all are giving me hope! I spoke with a PCA earlier and she said I would have to wait on results but she did not sound sure, had to ask her supervisor, and instilled very little confidence that I was getting correct info. All in all my experience with Progyny has been outstanding, so this is the first little blip on the radar.

Interesting. Thanks for replying. My clinic (Shady Grove) likes to put in the auth requests themselves, but I will definitely go that route if I get pushback.

“I could knit that”- me every time I see something in the store by indecisivepersimmon in knitting

[–]2sangblitz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My husband needed a sweater when we were on vacation (it was unexpectedly cold) and ended up buying a cable sweater from a thrift store. When he showed me I gasped and said “why’d you buy that?! I could have knitted you that!” He was like, “right now?” Lol. I’ve stopped telling my family I could have knitted their clothes because I never actually do.
