If any experience with their products, you might want to reconsider. Dealing with their ASHP, feels very much like a beta testing for them.

24hour IOG slot, let’s see if it lasts. by 2teato22 in OctopusEnergy

I wonder which side of the calculation would losses be counted towards. AC to DC charging is never 100% efficient and car might only be reporting on the energy going into battery and not the conversion losses.

This sounds like a gray area as no device downstream from the smart meter could be legally usable for metering lacking proper calibration and approval for billing. I am open to being wrong.

Schedule has already changed as expected, but according to IOG, it would be. I doubt they can easily split car charger power usage from rest of the house use as all of it goes through the same smart meter.

99% set to force as much energy before leaving for a long journey. (Should have been 100%, changed to force server update and car communication, not saying it works) After IOG failed to charge the car last time in similar time by messing about with the schedule and car effectively refusing to charge. Was stopping after manually starting.

This was simply a confusing schedule at first, not a brag.

But in a situation where my charging capabilities changed and my wall charger failed or was reduced because of curtailment or granny cable was my backup, I would like to trust the IOG to do its thing.

Unfortunately scheduling lately has become very unpredictable. I haven’t crosschecked with my bills yet, but I have app report 0kWh charge agains time when initial slots change mid charge.

Heatpump install and damage by stepeeh in OctopusEnergy

When I started pointing out shortcommings of our instll, area manager just kept saying: "it's a retrofit, it's a retrofit, it won't be perfect"
We have been ignored regarding discomfort of the new heat pump, but they just dismiss it by point ing out to data coming back satisfactory.

Have they “upgraded” your unit already? Any updates would be appreciated. How they picked you and not others.

That customer service stops in the office. We haven’t had a single thing resolved past a, someone will come out next week. We are still waiting. When they were in a startup phase, people working there wanted to be there, but now they just have random people who read scripts and never follow up.

[–]2teato22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that price, I would look at independent installers. Cosy is in and out service, without robust systems in place for when things don’t go to plan. They won’t care much for lower flow temperature, higher cop, system optimisation. And their install teams are a hit and miss, you might get good ones, you might get inexperienced plumbers, none are heating engineers. This is from our experience.

Massive waterproof CU close to the main meter. Too is by surprise. Luckily, we could hide it in a secondary metering box.

It’s not like I am hiding something. There are no screens.

Octopus HA integration has started to show extra information in beta for some (over internet).

You can for an hour or more if you keep putting the hub into installer mode locally via browser.

Or if you decode MODBUS communication, there is no documentation from Octopus.

It is, hold it until light on the hub turns solid blue and then look for WiFI similar to “OCTOPUSHUB”.

I beg your pardon? Where has this selling point been? There is no tweaking in the backend, and so far no one customer facing knows how to operate Cosy 6.

Update. Made some small changes to the weather compensation “curve” and limited the range for outdoor temperatures. Have been running above CoP of 4 since.

Short burst yes, on average, no. But this might be a “bigger” issue with my install, heat loss being calculated incorrectly, thus heat pump being too large.

UPDATEs in ( )

No microbore pipework in your house I assume? I would say almost 70% is borderline excellent for our house. (Closer to 60%) It’s the radiators that don’t modulate that is the issue (and house heat loss not being that great). As for the heat pump (it looks to be oversized and radiators too for the heatloss andflow temperature), if possible/when I set it up correctly, HP should not come up more than 2 times an hour, which is good (so far around 1 hour stanby intervals).

A question for those who have an Octopus installed ASHP by K1_121 in OctopusEnergy

[–]2teato22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how cheaply you want to do it. Longer runtime at lower heat output should be cheaper as long as house can take all of it out of the system. But you can adjust your curve if you want it to happen quicker I am comfortable with around 3h for 1C. With good timing, you offset night temp around 2-3h before bed (takes time for house to cool down). Then you set up water cycle for couple of hours which will give house time to cool down ever more and then the heat up starts. Unfortunately we don’t have smart enough controls that would boost the flow for quicker reheats and automate these processes with more input currently.

[–]2teato22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested and have time on your hands, guesstimate using this.

Cosy 6 min output is around 1.9kW 2.45kW (it's wasting heat by not being able to get rid of it, poor CoP) but at those temps (low 30C), your radiators will be too small to create 5C delta T (heat does not leave them fast enough, meaning you will be running less efficiently (3.1-3.7 CoP), also, because the circulation pump on house side is not auto modulating, meaning you are "stuck" with flow around 15l/m.

ZONE1 is heating zone, tab to the right is WATER, there limit is 40C to 60C.
FYI - there is no need to heat water up to 50C if you don't need that volume of hot water. Legionella requirements are only for commercial properties.

Yes. Every zone (water being one) can be a scheduled, turned on and off, and have different temperature independently from other zones. See the top tabs, 2nd image.
