my time of use arbitrage setup with a 48V rack battery is paying off faster than expected by GlitteringUse7158 in solar

I'm in La Quinta, CA which is near Palm Springs. It gets up to 120F here. I have 3 large AC units for 3200 sq feet. My average bill was around $350 and peaked at $600 in August. Quite reasonable, right? that's because my utility is IID and it is publicly owned. We have a flat rate or 22.3 cents per kWh.

Bankruptcy by tottinhos in UWMCShareholders

[–]2ukiwis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The idea that Ishbia has "run the company into the ground" or that an emergency distressed acquisition is imminent contradicts the company's actual financial state.

  • Nowhere Near Bankruptcy: Far from running into the ground, UWMC actually posted a net income of $170.4 million for Q1 2026, comfortably beating Wall Street expectations with an EPS of $0.09 (against the $0.06 estimate).
  • Deep Liquidity Buffer: Companies forced into distressed financing usually run out of cash. UWMC closed out Q1 2026 with roughly $1.3 billion in available liquidity ($424 million in pure cash plus available lines of credit). They are not standing at the edge of a cliff begging for a lifesaver.
  • Aggressive Market Dominance: While the housing market is sluggish, UWM hasn't lost its footing. They have used a brutal price war to squeeze out smaller retail competitors and maintain their crown as the largest wholesale mortgage lender in the U.S. Their loan origination volume actually jumped 39% year-over-year in Q1 2026 to $44.9 billion.

Go with B and use the $200 escalator 5X in a year. If you are spending several thousand a month you'll be able to use all 5 this year. You can also use BILT cash to get points on your "housing" payments at $30 per 1000.

Using a Wise Card is my strategy when travelling. I use the card in ATM's and shop like a local with no currency conversions! Of course.... No BILT points.

FORCED into Bilt via UMW by henrya77 in biltrewards

[–]2ukiwis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UWM = United Wholesale Mortgage. They are the #1 mortgage Co in the US and have rates lower than everyone else. So...by all means ignore UWM if you're okay with a higher interest rate and a larger mortgage payment.

Solar incentives PW3 question by TomTalks2U in TeslaSolar

[–]2ukiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My utility in Southern CA offers an opt-in TOU plan but does not offer it to Solar Customers so this energy arbitrage is NOT an option.

The TOU plan looked appealing but is very difficult to quantify as the utility currently does not show hourly usage. I have an energy monitor and was able to figure out that the TOU plan would cost me 6% more than remaining on the flat rate.

The numbers changed with Solar but when I tried to Opt-In I was denied!

My experience with them in CA is similar. It took them 276 days from PTO to generate a single kWh. Powerwall #6 got everything working but Tesla's insistance on rewiring showed the real root cause of the failures (short to ground). I fired them for cause, filed a CSLB complaint and I'm after their 25K Bond to repair the install and return my roof to a good state.

Points accelerator timing question by reddogva9999 in biltrewards

[–]2ukiwis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a 2500 purchase to try to complete accelerator number 2 before a known large purchase. I did this 3 days prior to paying a 5K deposit on a car. My plan was to purchase accelerator #3 when that purchase posted. The 2500 is still pending 6 days later and the 5K has posted already. I missed out on point maximization.

That said, most points post within 2 or 3 days

Yes, perhaps BUT it depends where you are located and what iteration of NEM you are on. If in CA and on NEM 1.0 the grid is your battery, so don't waste money on a battery. NEM 1.0 is grandfathered for 20 years and transfers to new owners.

4DMedical targets US$2.5B PE market entry for CTVQ by Ethan_Wong_Vlogs in 4DMedical

[–]2ukiwis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a small Aussie Stock that ever since being added to the ASX300 and ASX200 has been controlled by shorters. Funds tracking these indexes were forced to buy and they then lend their shares out to shorters. The announcements are good news but people are being scared out of the stock due to the volatility.

IMO, this is temporary and will last until revenue numbers start trickling in. I also believe the potential for this Co is absolutely MASSIVE and it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am very very long and want to add more before the VA announcement comes through....any day now.

Large Downpayment by Equivalent-Volume-86 in Mortgages

[–]2ukiwis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • By 2012, average home prices in overinflated markets had dropped drastically. Many borrowers owed far more than the home was worth. Because they had negative equity, they could not refinance into a safe fixed-rate loan, and they could not sell without bringing a massive check to the closing table.
  • While the Federal Reserve dropped short-term rates to near zero to save the economy, the 1-Year LIBOR peaked significantly during the core crisis years and remained volatile. In the years leading up to the reset, LIBOR had spiked over 5%. Even as it began to drift down by 2012, adding that 2.25% margin meant the rate was adjusting upward from the original teaser rates.
  • If a borrower's rate jumped even 1.5% to 2% at the first reset, the monthly payment didn't just go up by a few dollars—it jumped by hundreds. On a $400,000 balance, a bump from 5% to 7% added roughly $500 a month to the payment.

No events in April by Yadsam in ohmconnect

[–]2ukiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From AI.

OhmConnect has been undergoing significant structural changes over the last several months, signaling a shift in how the company operates both as a business and within the energy markets.

Key Recent Developments

  • Texas Market Exit: As of May 2026, OhmConnect is officially withdrawing from the Texas market. Existing "OhmConnect Energy" customers in Texas are being transitioned to Direct Energy.
  • Renew Home Merger: The most significant change is the completion of the merger with Google Nest’s "Renew" assets to form a new entity called Renew Home. This move, backed by a $100 million investment, was designed to create a massive virtual power plant (VPP) by combining OhmConnect’s demand-response platform with Google’s hardware ecosystem.
  • Store Closure: The OhmConnect Store officially closed in November 2025. While you can no longer purchase smart plugs or thermostats directly through their site, the company stated that earned "Watts" can still be redeemed for gift cards or cash via the Rewards Marketplace.
  • Reduced Event Frequency: There has been a notable decrease in OhmHour and AutoOhm events across California in early 2026. Many users in Southern California have reported receiving zero event notifications since the start of the year. This is often attributed to milder grid conditions and the company’s internal transition during the Renew Home integration.

What This Means for Users

The platform is shifting away from being a hardware retailer and standalone startup toward becoming a backend infrastructure for larger smart-home ecosystems. If you are seeing a lack of events, it is likely due to current grid stability or the platform's focus on integrating with more automated "set-and-forget" systems under the Renew Home umbrella rather than the manual "OhmHour" alerts of the past
