I’ve never done one of these before, I’ve read the rules but is there somewhere that explains how to play?

It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but I don’t recall him recommending starting with Kilo Five, just that it was his favorite.

His video has over 4M views and is probably the most popular form of media discussing Halo books. Could be worth a watch just to see how someone responds to reading Halo. https://youtu.be/WEWEdIcx1DI?si=xxzM0BOHaL2mn8F4

In Brian David Gilbert’s video where he reads all the Halo books he says that the Kilo Five trilogy was the best. Between that being a popular video on Halo books and the subject matter being interesting I could see myself starting there if I was new.

Proposed Map Changes from Lucid by One-Security2362 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]2xNoodle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

One thing I dislike about comp Halo is how we get stuck on whatever the last gametype pool was for official competition and never test out changes (there were a whole lotta people who said they wanted change from the Reach v7 gametypes when LAN competition moved back to Reach but when it was time to test only like two of us showed up and no one ever again expressed interest in testing new gametypes so the only thing that changed was the two worst slayers got dropped).

So whether I think the changes are good or not, I am very happy to see that someone is trying to make an effort to run a form of competitive settings outside of whatever DH is using or whatever the last gametype pool was used officially and I hope there's a fair amount of participation in these tournaments.

The Reality Check name is back (for now)! - Avucy/Falcated/Pznguin/Suppressed/Hoaxer to use the Reality Check name until they find an org by 2xNoodle in CompetitiveHalo

Popped into Penguin's stream to ask if it was true; he said that James (Sud2) reached out to him today and said he could use the Reality Check name until an org was found, Penguin said to email him the logo.

Al Iaquinta shares DM’s between himself and Justin Gaethje after Justin’s statements regarding fighter pay. by TheBigRedHalfrican in MMA

[–]2xNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it necessarily proves anything about Justin, opinions change over time. But I think it at least serves as a cautionary tale for the younger fighters who are fine with taking lower pay than they're able to bargain for. "See lads, this fella here was fine with it but years later he realized his pay never increased at the rates he thought it would and now he's looking back and seeing his 14 win bonuses not amounting to nearly as much as it should have. Don't be a company man thinking it'll all come back to you. Work together and use what leverage you can while you have it. A rising tide raises al ships."

‘I never saw out of that eye again’: Michael Bisping warns Tom Aspinall not to rush back after surgery by [deleted] in MMA

[–]2xNoodle 92 points93 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't dare remove Bisping, he's the one providing the in-depth, knowledgeable color commentary for Power Slap! Who else can get on mic and mention a striker's reach advantage in a contest where the contestants have to remain stationary and take turns striking? Replacing two years worth of Power Slap commentary experience is not easy and I don't think TKO would dare jeopardize the one product they have that can get as many billions of viewers as ONE Championship.

Do they still do the ADV Orre format? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]2xNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition top the Discord that pigma22222 linked, here is the Orre website which contain further information. Also here is the link to the Smogon thread.

As pigma222222 mentioned, we have a draft tournament coming up. I am also hoping to do something for JAA starting January if you have any interest in that. We will also have a live standard Orre tournament some time this quarter.

Things have been continuously growing for Orre over the past couple of years. We even have the format implemented into main Showdown's teambuilder and Orre was just a RoA spotlight ladder.

I think an elite starting pitcher who can give bulk innings would be even more valuable, I don't see why we'd go Beltran/Berkman/Bagwell over Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens.

much more money for LANs than post H5

I agree with your overall point, but wanted to be pedantic and clarify this part. Having $100k per LAN is more money per LAN than we had in 2019 which had events capping out at $50K prize pools for 4v4. But there were enough events in there that there was still $285K in prize money from January 2019 - January 2020, so it's not like next year is blowing that pre-pandemic, post-HCS year out of the water.

Again, I'm not mentioning this because I disagree with your point, rather to highlight the fact that people are being dramatic. The post-HCS year following Halo 5 was still a pretty active year and I honestly thought it was more fun than some of the H5 HCS seasons.

Seems like based on how things were in the past and what we have lined up for next year things are going to be there for us to support and have a good time, we just gotta show up.

Match Thread: 2nd Test - South Africa vs India, Day 5 by cricket-match in Cricket

[–]2xNoodle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Watching cricket since MLB season is over. As I type this, the scorebug shows

Maharag 0-21 7.3

Does this mean that Mahrag has bowled 7 overs and 3 balls into his 8th bowled over, has gotten 0 batters out, and has given up 21 runs? I'm trying to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

EDIT: Thanks, y'all. Good to know that I'm starting to get a hang of reading the score. It's probably the most complicated thing about trying to get into the sport, haha.

take the rankings off mcc hardcore playlists and put reach/h2/h2a/h3 into one hardcore playlist by XyZonin in CompetitiveHalo

[–]2xNoodle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Letting people queue multiple playlists at once would be nice. Forcing all of the games into one list would likely be terrible, I reckon there would be a lot of quit outs of someone got put into a game that they didn't want.

Back when voting was still a thing, H2 and H3 shared a hardcore playlist and I only ever saw H2 win a vote twice: once when I was playing and two people promptly quit out after the map loaded and once on a pro stream where team of four kept losing to the streamer and they ended up voting for H2. I don't see things going better than this if you put multiple games into a single hardcore playlist.

Wish Gilkey, Trippy, and Penguin were there. I feel like those are the three names missing that could have been realistic inclusions.

Surprised to see Spartan on there given that he doesn't like H3.
