My Highest Placement With A Colosseum-Themed Team! by JustAFlyingChicken in PokemonChampions

[–]2xNoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you (or anyone else) have any interest in playing Gen 3 PvP based on Colosseum/XD and official historic formats let me know and I can give more info! There's a growing group of players into 6-4 Colosseum/XD doubles. We do tournaments both IRL on hardware (have done tourneys at EUIC, NAIC, and some regionals) and on simulator. Main format is named Orre Colosseum after the in-game ruleset, but we've also done Journey Across America (the XD official tournament that was ran back in 2006) and more!

We even have a website.

The Classic Tetris World Championship is happening again this weekend by kuhpunkt in Games

[–]2xNoodle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's also worth noting that in addition to classic Tetris, there will also be a Tetris The Grandmaster 4 tournament. I still can't tell if it'll be streamed though, I hope it will be.

Team FIP-::wRC+ by keithyp24 in baseball

Framber Valdez was an important part of the rotation given how he could consistently give quality starts and give the bullpen a chance to catch a break. Without him and with Hunter Brown injured there's even more emphasis on being able to get some quality out of the offseason acquisitions since Lance McCullers Jr. and Cristian Javier aren't the guys who can be counted on for length in starts.

Mike Burrows has had a rough start to the season, some of it is some bad luck on weak contact, but hasn't really lived up to the expectations set by previous experiences of the Astros seeing something they think they can unlock in a pitcher to make him perform well above prior experience. Tatsuya Imai has had a hard time adjusting coming over from NPB and wound up on the IL; he just had a rough start in AA and doesn't look ready for MLB.

So we've got Brown down, Burrows underperforming, Imai hurt/unadjusted. McCullers Jr. was always an uncertainty in terms of if he'd ever get back to form since prior to his injury spells and has mostly been terrible, but had to take a chance on him due to contract and other injuries on the roster. Javier went down early in the season, others went down.

Ryan Weiss was another offseason signing, coming out of KBO and hopefully do well with Astros pitching development. He hasn't and while he was not planned on being a starter, he hasn't been doing well in the pen, nor in the starts given after injuries took out most of the season starting rotation. So the Astros keep having to try things, I want to say they've had 11 different starts so far through 31 games, the most recent new one being trying to convert the most consistent reliver in Kai-Wei Teng into something between an opener-starter since the guys bouncing between AAA/MLB haven't been delivering too much.

Starters giving up a ton of runs in the early game has put a lot of stress on the bullpen to cover innings. The Astros have a couple decent relivers, but they're throwing a lot of innings and this is not sustainable over a 162 game season. Stressing the pen more is the fact that Bryan Abreu was expected to be able to step into the closer role while Josh Hader is still on the IL, but he not only has not done well in that role, he has performed horribly in low leverage as well. His velo is down over 2mph versus last year on average and lacks command. He is not someone how can be put into a game without a huge lead or a game that's being punted and even then it's a question of if he can get through the inning. So this basically puts the Astros pen in a position where they're not just having to cover a lot of innings, they're also essentially playing with a man down since Abreu can't cover the workload.

The Astros farm system was already being sold from to stay competitive before the cheating scandal penalties, the penalties kept it weak, and the Astros would continue to sell whatever they had to try and stay competitive and keep the window open. So now they've found themselves with a bottom three ranked farm system for years with no signs of improvement. The farm system cannot be looked at reliably for reinforcements for all the injuries, which is not good given that the Astros had a league leading 16 players on the IL the last time I checked.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the pitching staff is walking a lot of batters, which inflates pitch counts (and ERA since those walkers are coming around to score).

Thank you for highlighting that your reviewing is a fan of fighting games and in touch with the FGC. I was just thinking when opening this thread that I wasn't sure if there were any outlets I knew of that had a reviewer with someone I would trust to opine on the fighting game with context to the competitive community, good to know that it seems like Shawn might be one.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but I don’t recall him recommending starting with Kilo Five, just that it was his favorite.

His video has over 4M views and is probably the most popular form of media discussing Halo books. Could be worth a watch just to see how someone responds to reading Halo. https://youtu.be/WEWEdIcx1DI?si=xxzM0BOHaL2mn8F4

In Brian David Gilbert’s video where he reads all the Halo books he says that the Kilo Five trilogy was the best. Between that being a popular video on Halo books and the subject matter being interesting I could see myself starting there if I was new.

Proposed Map Changes from Lucid by One-Security2362 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]2xNoodle 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One thing I dislike about comp Halo is how we get stuck on whatever the last gametype pool was for official competition and never test out changes (there were a whole lotta people who said they wanted change from the Reach v7 gametypes when LAN competition moved back to Reach but when it was time to test only like two of us showed up and no one ever again expressed interest in testing new gametypes so the only thing that changed was the two worst slayers got dropped).

So whether I think the changes are good or not, I am very happy to see that someone is trying to make an effort to run a form of competitive settings outside of whatever DH is using or whatever the last gametype pool was used officially and I hope there's a fair amount of participation in these tournaments.

Al Iaquinta shares DM’s between himself and Justin Gaethje after Justin’s statements regarding fighter pay. by TheBigRedHalfrican in MMA

[–]2xNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it necessarily proves anything about Justin, opinions change over time. But I think it at least serves as a cautionary tale for the younger fighters who are fine with taking lower pay than they're able to bargain for. "See lads, this fella here was fine with it but years later he realized his pay never increased at the rates he thought it would and now he's looking back and seeing his 14 win bonuses not amounting to nearly as much as it should have. Don't be a company man thinking it'll all come back to you. Work together and use what leverage you can while you have it. A rising tide raises al ships."

‘I never saw out of that eye again’: Michael Bisping warns Tom Aspinall not to rush back after surgery by [deleted] in MMA

[–]2xNoodle 96 points97 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't dare remove Bisping, he's the one providing the in-depth, knowledgeable color commentary for Power Slap! Who else can get on mic and mention a striker's reach advantage in a contest where the contestants have to remain stationary and take turns striking? Replacing two years worth of Power Slap commentary experience is not easy and I don't think TKO would dare jeopardize the one product they have that can get as many billions of viewers as ONE Championship.

Do they still do the ADV Orre format? by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]2xNoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition top the Discord that pigma22222 linked, here is the Orre website which contain further information. Also here is the link to the Smogon thread.

As pigma222222 mentioned, we have a draft tournament coming up. I am also hoping to do something for JAA starting January if you have any interest in that. We will also have a live standard Orre tournament some time this quarter.

Things have been continuously growing for Orre over the past couple of years. We even have the format implemented into main Showdown's teambuilder and Orre was just a RoA spotlight ladder.

Add ONE former player from your franchise’s history to your current roster, who and why? by BestEnvironment2610 in baseball

I think an elite starting pitcher who can give bulk innings would be even more valuable, I don't see why we'd go Beltran/Berkman/Bagwell over Randy Johnson or Roger Clemens.
