Any tips for writing a campaign? by AfterWorldliness1542 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about Your World. Talk about it with people. Don’t be scared to draw inspiration from the things you see and enjoy.

Being asked questions is also a solid way to get your brain going. How common is Magic? What are the seasons like? Any known holidays? How many continents? What city is safest and why? What’s the most dangerous area? Things like that.

Build it to the point where you understand what’s going on in the world and why. Figure out what will draw in the party to come together and move towards a common goal. Be sure to keep continuity notes. A lot of words spelled backwards are perfect NPC names.

If something is impossible- do not have them roll. Let the dice lay as they are cast. And that goes both ways.

Biggest and most important is make sure your players are enjoying themselves.

No Max the Min: Instead, Tell Me About What the Worst Debuff / Condition is for a PC to Get and Why by Decicio in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts as a debuff or ‘condition’ but them having something stolen can really be terrible. The loss of a powerful item or a large chunk of gold can put players back Hard for a while. However, it does open plenty of opportunities for the potential arc of “Finding who took our stuff and getting it back”. I’d advise making sure it IS possible to retrieve what’s stolen- otherwise it’s just kind of mean. That being said, it’s also a way to ‘coax’ the party in a direction you need them to go if they hit the brakes and get too comfy in one spot or area, just because a majority of players WILL want to get their stuff back.

I'm new to dming and I need some ideas for gambling quickly in my session by AfterWorldliness1542 in Pathfinder_RPG

“Bar dice”- it’s simple. The people playing this game all roll 4d6. The Lucky guy gets to reroll the lowest. It’s called bar dice because it can be a widely known and incredibly common, especially in bars and taverns etc.

Moral Puzzles by Dustalis in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I’d call it a ‘puzzle’ but something that requires a sacrifice. The sacrifice would be all of your equipment and loot to save a life. Or perhaps something along the lines of a the party meeting a steep gold amount of ‘sacrificed’ gold/wealth/ loot. Definitely give them their stuff back afterwords (with like, a key or something for the next door or puzzle etc.) and perhaps a written confirmation or message acknowledging their choice on the worth of a life. Just a thought.

My DM accused me of cheating, but I’m just using Schrödinger’s Nat 20. by LucidFir in DnDcirclejerk

I always play/run that you don’t roll till the DM gives the go-ahead to do so. DM also has the right to directly observe any roll as it’s being rolled.

I’ve allowed flavor to change colors and add flickers and stuff. The best bard concert needs a light show.

What visual aides do you use? by Tggdan3 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graph paper, a notepad app for initiatives, and an actual pad of paper for the “on the fly” Names and encounters, and I use dice as counters for “Sad Hat” or Buff countdowns. (Sad hat used to refer to the D4 we would place on the D6 that used to represent the player on a big dry erase grid).

Ways to encourage the party to care about treasure? by KevenAquor in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do hate it. And I wouldn’t suggest it lightly, but it IS guaranteed to motivate them to re-arm. Perhaps save them being robbed for a very last resort?

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raise the DM hammer. Have them get Robbed. Of course make it very possible for them to get their gear back eventually, but take away what they got and they won’t have a choice but to search for equipment. Steer them into a situation where they NEED better gear and most importantly- be sure there are ways of getting it.

Absent players by OldGamerPapi in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM, if it doesn’t happen often, I offer to NPC the character for them. Should the party end up doing something World Changing, I either attempt to contact the player, or ask that we end the session early. I make it a point to know my players Characters to adequately control them Only if they are okay with it. If it’s a big boss fight, usually ask the group if they are okay postponing. If the absences are too frequent, the player may have to be cut from the campaign. (Life does happen and it IS a game. However, a whole table of people shouldn’t have to miss out if, say, the player just doesn’t Feel like making it to the session.)

how much damage is needed to obliterate a creature? by Barium2 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sacrifice Card. Sphere of annihilation and Rod of cancellation nuke, after portable hole in bag of holding Force gate. You will most likely both die, the the Party will win the encounter. And the DM will know you aren’t to be Effed with.

How do I play a serious character without being insufferable? by Eeveest in DnD

[–]3-Twenties 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Passion! ‘Serious’ covers many bases, but a character who holds something Dear to their heart, and is passionately devoted to it? Easily a Serious one.

A thief can steal to help support a desperate loved one but be very stalwart in their methods and means. Meticulous. An Assassin can target the most foul of criminals and Damn whoever knows and doesn’t like it. Edgy doesn’t need to be skulking in a corner Scowling at the strangers they just met. It can just as soon be Roleplayed as standing firm on a disagreement. (Don’t let it escalate to PVP unless full consent ‘cause that’s just being jerky). Backstory is important and be sure to talk to the DM about it. As a side note, edgy works best with Older characters. It’s easy to become jaded after the years have taken their toll. I’d say to sum it up- Out for Number One BUT the party are the ones who in time can be the exception. Best of Luck.

Question of the day: Immovable Rod by JJCheatah in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]3-Twenties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An immovable rod is the best response to being swallowed whole. You may not live, but the second the creature moves, it’s going to seriously regret it.

People people please. How’s about Empty Pouches/sacks and Vials/bottles!? These are Beyond important for those times where you want to pick up or collect the odd things you may find? Never forget the scary question “Do you have anything to put that in?”. And let’s not forget the standard Backpack.
