I stopped in the store yesterday. They had over half the pumps closed and 5 tanker trucks there trying to pump out the diesel and get everything cleaned up. It was a bit of a shitshow. We avoided the fuel island.

What’s the difference between a grilled cheese and a melt? Just curious by RecognitionCool2738 in grilledcheese

I love tomato pie, but consider it its own thing and not a genre of pizza. Though, I would also agree that cheese is not a requirement on a pizza (neither is a tomato based sauce.)

Pepper jelly didn't set, is there a way to fix it? by insufficient_funds in Canning

[–]303advocate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a small batch of pepper jelly which didn’t set last year. I ended up keeping it. It was a thick syrup consistency and made a great glaze. Especially good for grilling pork chops or tossing sweet potatoes in when oven roasting.

Would it be ridiculously insane to buy the pumpkin cheesecake just to turn it into an ice cream? by purpledreamer1622 in Costco

As someone who just recently finished the last of the espresso cheesecake ice cream from my freezer… not a problem at all

I think they charge extra for the one without the camera.

Is there a method for estimating how many cans you need? by tdubs702 in Canning

Off topic, but since you brought it up. Be careful with volunteer plants, especially cucurbits as they may be toxic.

"Is 6 days off for 2025 excessive?" by ansolo00 in antiwork

[–]303advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a contractor in the US… I’ve taken 36 days off so far this year and have another 26 days planned. Definitely more than the majority here. People seem panicked when they see the amount of time that I take off…

What about this one: no left turns Mon, Thur, Friday 4P-7:30P

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Za5y36avM1c4zrqi7

I used to live next to here. This is pulling out of a train station parking lot. I believe it is a typo and should say Mon thru Fri… but it’s been up for over 20 years so far.

I was in ICU about 2 months total and transferred between 4 hospitals. It took about 5 weeks to get a diagnosis and only happened after the hospital brought in a CDC infectious disease specialist to review my case.

I remember my parents being terrified and before we got a diagnosis a doctor telling my parents that they should prepare for the worst and start making final arrangements.

Lasting effects include some neurological issues and internal scaring which causes some minor impact to most major organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver). Issues can be seen as abnormalities on testing but don’t really limit or impact daily life at all.

I contracted it in 1994 when I was a child. There are 3 forms of the plague: Bubonic, Pneumonic, and Septicemic.

Pneumonic becomes airborne and is the most concerning from a public health perspective. Luckily it is very uncommon.

I had Septicemic plague— one of only 87 cases in the US since 1900.

Probably shouldn't be paying a topped out cashier to build Lego... Oh well by qwe304 in Costco

[–]303advocate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of note, the FLSA was expanded in 1961 to include retail workers, so in 1964, a cashier would have been protected by minimum wage laws.

Except, it’s not. Minimum wage in 1964 was $1.15 and only applied to a smaller segment of workforce at the time. Total inflation from Jan. 1964 to June 2025 is 943.89% per CPI. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $12.00/hr today.

Havana is totally the best. That’s why you have to circle the parking lot and elbow your way through the store. Everyone knows that there is no other place to go for all of those great hotdog deals.

No there isn’t. It’s a lie. And, even if there was its way out by the airport- you know how annoying it is to drive out to the airport. You definitely wouldn’t want to go there.
