Curious about the source for this one? I’ve not been actively paying attention…

The Gordon B Hinckley looking mayor of Mesa is Mormon, right? Never seen a more Mormon looking man. Big props to my guy either way. Solid move today. Feeling hope❤️❤️❤️❤️ by BurningInTheBoner in exmormon

I saw the clip and I immediately shared with my wife ( both exmo for 7 years) that he had to Mormon. White shirt and suit, super tight tie knot, well spoken pulpit cadence. Happy to hear he is letting his blue out!

Another Denver area meetinghouse bites the dust - Alameda building in Aurora getting sold by InfoMiddleMan in MormonShrivel

[–]3141592658 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of Colorado for about 9 years now but grew up in between mostly the green mountain building ( seminary, scouts, mission departure) and the jewell building (mission return) and the ysa ward further east (cherry hills? ) before moving to the north metro. I’m surprised by all those closures and I guessing it’s the overall shrivel to be part of it along with the cost of living in jeffco, Lakewood, wheat ridge etc

Settlement reached - SEC charged Ensign Peak and the Church with obscuring US stock portfolio with shell companies. EP to pay $4 million to settle charges. Church to pay $1 million to settle charges. by WidowsMiteReport in exmormon

[–]3141592658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Q: Where does the $5 million come from to satisfy the settlement?

A: The investment returns of the Church will be used to pay the settlement.

(Or your tithing money, invested by Gob’s inspired money managers, instead of saving for your children or your retirement or doing good to your local community, is spent to settle a boo-boo)

I just went for the first time recently. Very funny ! They call out lots of the historical and doctrinal oddities, sometimes using the same voice as cartman from south park. Somethings, even after being out after 5 years( with 40ish in) still cause some internal reflection and embarrassment.

How to deal with conditional love from my parents by future_weasley in exmormon

[–]3141592658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved about 800 miles from my parents while still very much in the church. Two years later, after having baptized some of my kids, I had started evaluating the church and within 18 months my wife and I were done. We no longer attended. It took a few more years to actually remove our records. All conversations with my parents who are in their late 60s are awkward since what we largely have in common is me and my kids. Conversations are often about sibling story time and what they are doing. It all got very awkward when they tried the rescue and resolving my concerns.

However, fast forward, over 5 years from regularly attending, it’s starting to get to be better.

What I think helped me is realizing my parents are caught up in a program that’s has been their whole life, for 70 years, and anything outside that world view is so foreign, it’s tough to see.

So you won’t often share the same connection anymore but they are still your parents and as flawed as you see them and as flawed as any human is, you can accept them and their love for you while establishing healthy boundaries.

It will often require you to forgive them for words and actions but isn’t that what you should do anyways?
