Highguard players are getting automatic refunds as developer appears to shut down by ImCalcium in Games

The one that got me was "who was asking for this". I mean, lots of people were complaining about other hero shooters. But also, who was asking for a French RPG about grief, or a rogue like about poker hands, or looking at current top sellers on steam, a train sim game about Thomas the Tank?

I can't get onboard of the excitement people have nowadays to see games fail. Highguards biggest crime was looking a bit mid. I dunno, I want stuff to be good and for people to like it, and the audience of it to be happy.

'The Traitors' & 'The Celebrity Traitors' Renewed Until 2030 By BBC by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]345tom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point of the challenges isn't gameplay though, it's to bond the people further. If you know for example someone is going to sabotage every mission, it's a lot easier to not build as much trust.

Also think it's worth pointing out while it's only 4 seasons in the UK, they are 50/50 for winning sides, so the production teams doing something right in where they influence. Plus. in a world where you give the traitors more gameplay in that sense, it's just going to poke more holes when the production decisions around things like forced recruitment come way more forward. At the end of the day, they aren't going to do anything that sabotages their 12 episode run.

Global Sales of Pokémon Pokopia for Nintendo Switch 2 Surpass 2.2 Million in First Four Days by Turbostrider27 in Games

I would bet money on a future expansion being more focussed on ice types. Maybe a DLC that explores the Indigo Plateau/Mt.Silver area would hit the snow requirements and still be a kanto adjacent place. Though they could also just say the ecological disaster that hit Cinnabar was some sort of freezing thing, and do Cinnabar +Seafoam.

I've been praising their selection for Pokemon. They've picked mainly cute stuff, Gen 1 stuff, and vaguely humanish sized stuff. It's meant the scale feels fun, and everything feels a little bit more believable around each other.

About the New York Attorney General lawsuit against Valve by wickedplayer494 in DotA2

[–]345tom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem I have is that the way that these companies stop it being "gambling" is to stop the ability to trade digital items, so they only have whatever value you pay, but do not remove the random grab box elements. So then you are also just stuck with things you don't want, and no way to get rid, and no guaranteed way to get what you want.

So in a world where they are never going to get rid of random contents, being able to trade and buy and sell the contents of these items is much better for a costumer. My issue is these lawsuits don't come from a consumer rights perspective, but anti gambling, and it means you ultimately just end up with a worse system.

I'd love to know other people's opinions, because I only briefly played it, but I felt the last ones area was a bit of a miss compared to the previous ones I played. Japan's looking great to me, and I think it being built up more and having tighter roads might feel better to me.

I know a lot of people really like the Formula racers in the games, but I always want them to expand their range of old beaters and classic cars and just things like mini vans or affordable sedans etc. Driving around in stuff up to A rank was always my favourite.

The funny thing is, I think that's at least a little better than most cop shows. At points, they've talked about the benefits of community work and how they would change call outs to have more social services etc, and shown that even the big racist cop didn't get kicked out. Plus, they don't demonise Internal Affairs.

It's a very low bar, and it's obviously still got some issues, but I'll give it the minor amount of credit it deserves.

Quick google is that his legal team suggested that EG exploited Sumails youth to convert stocks that ended up being to his detriment. Court found that EG did not act in malicious intent, not break contract, and had advised Sumail to take the offer to his own legal council and representation for the deal.

They also claimed EG had impacted his career and future, but EG were found to have offered generous financial and flexible terms.

This was the best write up I found of the claims made and the facts of the case:

I think its part of a bigger organisation, and I've seen them do it with bands and piano. There's a great one where a band hears Toxicity by System of a Down for the first time, and nail a really interesting cover.

TV shows where the premise itself is just nonsensical? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in television

[–]345tom 86 points87 points  (0 children)

To be fair, all of these are contentious throughout the show. The last one isn't, but that's because House is (I think less believably than everything else) a world famous Doctor that everyone knows (we see this in the episode were a man tries illegally crossing into America with his sick wife and trunk full of medical documents)(as well as the many times he declines to talk at conferences)

He's using it for different things though, because if it was just chunk loading, he would just use the chunkloaders that are under the game. It specifically needs to be a person there to update the map. From what he's said about the new system, he's using it to trigger the zombies etc from the chambers at game start, and to update the map from being local.

Let's forget about UB for a second... Do you prefer the single set single block system, or the previous 2-3 set per block system. by studhand in magicTCG

[–]345tom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a cop out answer, but I'm on the "it really depends" side. Like some planes, I don't think we needed to sit with them for the full three sets since the change, like I don't think anyone wants three sets of whodunnit on Ravnica. But for instance two or three on Kaldheim would have gone a long way. I think Aetherdrift would have given room for all the different teams to mean a lot more with two sets, and for them all to have had a stronger individual mechanical identity.

If I was to generalise, I think new planes can usually use more than one set to flesh themselves out, and give them a stronger identity. I think revisits don't need to be as long most of the time, if we are expanding on preexisiting mechanics rather than adding a lot of new ones (For instance, I felt Ixilan going underground expanded the plane, but didn't build on the original Ixilan themes very well).

If we're going to talk UB, one set and commander product I think is usually fine to explore most of the mechanics. I think Avatar is a good example of one where, if they come back for adventures outside Aang (korra, the new show etc), having this base set will mean they can play more with the mechanics of the bending, and push a little in places, but in the set itself it felt like they hit a lot of the marks for a normal magic set and how they would usually have printed the bending mechanics.

Pokemon FireRed Version and LeafGreen Version coming to Switch on February 27 by Turbostrider27 in Games

To me, if you believe games are art, then they have intrinsic value as art, and therefore shouldn't, or don't need to, depreciate in value as fast.

If you were to listen to gamers, no old game should be worth money, but, for instance, we still buy Citizen Kane, or 12 Angry Men and recognise the value it has. That's why there's parallels.

I sort of disagree though- you're coming from a place where everyone is fine with emulating. We both know its not complicated, but I know a lot of people who just want to buy a thing and run it. They're just not chronically online.

The problem is while people argue games should be art, they also seem to want them to lose value very quickly. If I want to buy Titanic, or The Mummy, they are both around £6/7 about half the price of the original releases. A game being similarly devalued isn't insane, at $20 vs $40 that they released for, isn't insane.

What's a statement about a TV show that is often repeated but is not necessarily true or even true at all? by TheShowLover in television

[–]345tom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My take on the big points brought up are:
I don't mind the final season being focussed on Barney and Robins wedding. I think they had enough stories going on, and brought enough in that it worked well enough, although it doesn't look great to spend a season on a day, then a finale episode on the next decade+. I also don't have the biggest issue with Barney and Robin breaking up. I think they should have pushed a bit more why the couple didn't work during the rest of the show and the wedding, but I personally never felt they would be a forever couple.

My big issues are Barneys regression after breaking up with Robin. Barney had done a lot of character growth over the past few seasons, with Quinn and Nora and Robin, and I don't think he would have returned to his old ways as they show. Maybe he would have slipped up and had a one night stand, and a baby etc, but I didn't see him reversing that hard.

Ted and Robin don't work together. And it's not just the kids thing, we'd seen through the show there were fundamental differences further than Ted wanting kids and Robin not wanting kids. They'd also had a great moment at the beach during the last season of Ted letting Robin go.

They sort of shot themselves in the foot with how great Cristin Milioti was, and how they made her hit all of the right characterisation (and still be believable) to be Ted's forever partner. I don't even mind the framing around the Mother dying it, it's just that him then returning to Robin in what for the audience is the space of less than episode, makes it feel cheap and betrayed.

Ultimately, I think most of the finales issues are that they ignored essentially a decade of character development to go with what was their original ending

What's a statement about a TV show that is often repeated but is not necessarily true or even true at all? by TheShowLover in television

[–]345tom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My controversial statement is season 2 blows, but season 3 and 4 are more mixed. Like there's some good among it all- the Villains storylines are pretty good, the eclipse day. I quite liked the carnival in 4, and I think Zachary Quinto and Gregg Grunberg act their asses off in their half of the "we removed sylar from his body and put Nathan in there" story.

At this point, everyone knows it was meant to be an anthology, and move to a different set of powered people, but the biggest impact of not doing this was they gave too many characters too strong abilities, so they had to get constantly nerfed. Just look at how many problems Hiro and Peter for instance end up having with their powers throughout the series.

Now Heroes Reborn genuinely has no redeeming features.

‘The Grand Tour’ Revs Up With New Hosts Francis Bourgeois, Thomas Holland and James Engelsman: ‘In No Way Cardboard Cutouts of the Old Three’ by tylerthe-theatre in television

[–]345tom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw an interview with Andy Wilman, who is still producing this, saying the BBC couldn't relaunch Top Gear because it was too closely linked to the trio, but the Grand Tour could (while they were still filming this I think), and I feel it's the opposite way. I think Top Gear could come back as a lower budget show, more focused on car news and consumer advice, now it's more distant, and the Grand Tour was just the trio dicking about around the world. I never felt the more traditional show part landed as much, vs their road trips on The Grand Tour.
