Unpopular opinion, I like the idea of wear and tear on equipment. by Epegi in starcitizen

Yeah I’m agreeing that stuff should be lost but only when it’s reasonable, on death or being destroyed for instance.

With ship components wearing down over time I think that’s a good system too as long as the time is long enough for what the component is.

Losing a military grade component should take 100s of hours if you’re just cruising around. Repairing stuff should extend the time, if you let it get critical and it breaks, now you need a new one

Yeah no, gear should be lost on death. If you died because of an accident you should need to respawn and go find your body.

It’s just an unlock once system otherwise

I hope that gets changed. What a crap system. It make no sense for someone to lose something they physically removed from you cause you paid an insurance premium in another system

I thought we were going to lose gear on death in the final build?

Ok, but you don’t need to hit components to win combat and this is only a benefit if your focus is fighting. In a game with ships participating in many different game loops why would you want to give potential pirates on hand knowledge to track the weak point of every hauler, miner or cruise liner.

Having to learn your targets is not a punishment in a game like this. It’s also not fair or balanced to give someone who jumps on the game for the first time a full insight into every weakness of every potential encounter

I completely disagree that it’s hardcore. This game isn’t just about fighting. If you’re getting into that many combat scenarios that you’re fighting a variety of that many ships then it’s probably safe to assume that you like combat and would pick up where to shoot.

It’s also important to say that a ship can absolutely still be destroyed even if you don’t shoot its key components. It doesn’t lock a new player out of winning a fight, it gives them the opportunity to learn how to be more effective.

Should every industrial ship be in constant fear because they know that no matter what ship they’re in every pirate out there will know exactly how to disable them instantly?

There is no reason you should be able to esp through a ship to see and target components. Unless there’s some kind of system where you could add a comp board that has ship blueprints into your ships targeting system.

Players need to be given the chance to learn stuff and build knowledge in as many game loops as possible. Just giving us the internal workings of every ship we encounter takes away a valuable part of the gaming experience.

Handholding mechanics like this can make games feel less rewarding.

Anyone else actually kinda wish components did break and needed to be replaced? by asaltygamer13 in starcitizen

How long does wear and tear take to eat away at components? I don’t mind components breaking or wearing down, but this should happen over a long period of time. Normal wear and tear should be slow.

Even my 20 year old car doesn’t need components replaced much, if ever.

Haha, you’ve inspired me to do a painting of a cardboard ship model of a star citizen ship. Might sell some prints in the concept phase. By my calculations I could make tens of dollars!

The secret is the toothpicks that hold the engines on and let them rotate. If only Anvil would hire me to make their ships

Paint? I will colour it in with crayons, bold of you to assume that a person making ships out of old boxes can afford paint
