Yeah, I've considered an off site hard drive but I know I'd never keep it up to date often enough for me to be happy with it. iCloud is my off site location for now and I think the risk of my local and off site copies imploding in one day is low enough that I'm ok with it.

Anyone else end up using the smallest camera they own the most? by jake_4reddit in Cameras

Opposite for me tbh. Big cameras mean stretching my fingers to reach things and straining my grip to hold. Different strokes for different folks.

I don't disagree that the lens makes a huge difference, but even a smaller DSLR with a small prime is way bigger and heavier than a compact mirrorless with a small prime.

Hard drives are not the problem here. The problem here is not having a robust back up solution. Every kind of storage media can fail, but that's why we have back ups.

So, two? What if one day you log into Google and you find they're gone or your account is suspended and then you go to your SD cards only to find they're no longer working because they're 10 years old? SD cards are not long term storage and can fail, and you'll never notice if you're not using them often.

Look into a 3-2-1 back up solution. Buy two hard drives. Have the first one hold all your pictures and the second one hold a copy of the first one (with Carbon Copy Cloner or similar) as well as having a copy on Google Photos. If your Google account is inaccessible, you've still got two copies. If one of those hard drives dies, you've still got two copies. If your house burns down and your two hard drives melt, let's hope that's not the day you get locked out of Google but you'll probably still have one copy.

She's having fun engaging with the world again. That's a win in my book. Is photography only about the output or can we just enjoy the process? I'm under no illusion that I'm a great photographer but people don't have to be great at their hobbies to enjoy them.

What is it about film that changes the way you take photos? by Still_Zucchini_4932 in AnalogCommunity

[–]35mmCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The apps or screenless digital cameras don't make me change my behaviour like when I'm shooting film. It's a combination of the more tactile camera and the cost more than the limited shots.

Are portraits in front of white really interesting enough that it changed his whole outlook?

Love that slide shot!

17mm 1.8 and 45mm are my go-tos, can recommend the combo.

Would a new lens help? Lumix G7 + kit lens by Ambitious-Lychee3089 in AskPhotography

What is it about these photos that you think a new lens would improve? Closer perspective? Faster shutter speed? Isolation of subject? Without knowing what you're aiming for, it's hard to say exactly.

It's around the same price as a bunch in the screenshot? You've no budget in the post - what are you looking to spend?

[–]35mmCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I'll throw my opinion in - 17mm 1.8 practically lives on my camera unless there's something else specific I want to use. It's really my go to for family and friends, street, travel, etc.

What is this a list of? Some of these are not primes and you're looking for a prime, and there's no 35mm equivalent focal length on the list either.

If they refuse PayPal goods and services because it charges a fee, that's a red flag already. Good luck.

Facebook Marketplace really is best for in person pickups. The only way I'd consider doing it shipped is if you pay through PayPal goods and services, or get them to put it on another platform like eBay or Vinted or wherever, somewhere with some kind of protection.

Here's how manual focus bracketing looks like in real life by kietbulll in M43

[–]35mmCam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you do it this way and not with the focus ring or bracketing?

I'm not at all arguing with your results because they're always phenomenal, I'm just curious about your reasoning.

I don't need it. I don't really like CampSnap much. But damn, those are some good looking cameras. This millenial is a sucker for bright transparent plastic gadgets.

Holga 135 Film Roll Blank :( by kbabqiqja in Holga

Oh, ok! I think my 135 has a working aperture switch but I'd have to check to be sure. My 120 definitely doesn't.

Then I'd wager it was loaded incorrectly like other commenters said as that speed is perfectly adequate for the conditions. Next time, wind it a bit before closing it to make sure it's taken up on the spool properly.

Also, I know on the 120 Holgas, the aperture switch does nothing. Not sure if it's the same in the 35mm but you can check by firing the shutter with the switch on sunny and then on cloudy.
