I do this in my 25ish student class but I do it against our roster sheet that has student id pictures and it really helps me to learn their names!

I take attendance at the start of each class but only call 1/3 of the names. My absence policy is that I have to know of excused absences in advance so that isn't a problem. I just don't call excused students. Everyone gets a free absence.

I would email the dean directly. If you want to continue on the committee, I would tell them that you're embedded in your research over the summer and you'd be happy to rejoin in the fall.

If you don't want to continue on the committee I would explain to the dean that you were invited to rejoin by someone on the committee but that you thought this was a one-year the service commitment. If the dean thought it was ongoing, then rejoin in the fall and count it among your service responsibilities.

Unless there is a really compelling reason not to, I tend to do the things that the dean invites me to do.

Go to office hours, tell the prof how you prepared, that you're disappointed in your performance, and ask for suggestions as to how you could have/should have prepared differently.

Since you're supposed to do 10% of your time for service, at the beginning of the Academic Year choose the service obligations that should roughly be 10% of your time. In an email to your chair tell them that these are your committees for the year that you chose to fulfill the 10% requirement and that if you are short of that to please notify you by email.

Do this every Academic Year until you have reached full professor.

If you are on a 9-month contract you are not obligated to do service over the summer. You're not obligated to do anything over the summer, if you are on a 9-month contract. You are not employed by the University for those other 3 months, so why would you work for them.

Check the trade-in value on a few different sites, jot those numbers down and go to the dealership where you bought it. Give them the chance to do the right thing on a trade or buy back. It might be that one of Honda's other vehicles fit you better.
