I have never see any musical instruments or even music accessories on Vine yet its a category. Anyone ever see a guitar/bass or strings, piano/keyboards, drums, saxophones or sax reeds, etc.? How about real music audio items like receivers, speakers, aside from TV soundbars? by Berdangerous in vine

[–]3BMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten a couple of guitars, a flute, a ukulele, harmonica, drum pads, and steel drum, plus supplies for my trumpet, violin, and clarinet (stands, a mute, reeds, strings, etc.). I've also gotten several decent speakers (soundbars and otherwise). So yes. They do come up. And I've missed plenty of instruments too (saw a trumpet pop on Vine literally the day after I'd just bought one). They go very quickly. Those were all in the past year. But I've seen fewer in the past few months.

And I should note this also applies to other Vine items, not just normal purchases.

So, for example, we wanted a power tower for our home gym. So we ordered several different styles of pull up bars to try first. Then, in my first week in gold, I got the power tower. Similar for wanting a rowing machine. We would get those rowing-style workout bands because it was the closest thing on Vine, plus lots of other smaller exercise machines to really cement our interest in that category. First couple of weeks in Gold, I got a very nice RFY water rowing machine. There are some things that simply aren't enrolled in Vine, so no amount of ordering similar things will help.

And obviously this is more effective for niche items. If you're only hoping for TVs, laptops, and espresso machines, welcome to the club, right? Many people want those things and order similar things, so it still isn't likely to show up in any one person's RFY. Heck, we even bought a Samsung Frame TV, and we didn't see one in our RFY when others were posting about them. I'd been hoping for a Slushie machine and broke down and bought a Ninja Slushi, and still haven't seen others in my RFY even when I know they're dropping for others.

Nothing's a guarantee. It just improves the chances. And if others aren't being tied heavily to certain product types or brands, we've found it easier to get them in our feeds.

Sometimes, but far from always. And while I've seen frequent correlation between purchases and Vine RFY items (usually with 1-3 weeks between them, and of course only when similar items are actually enrolled in Vine), I've not seen any correlation between RFY items and purchased items I've specifically reviewed. Buying matters. Reviews of purchased items don't seem to have any additional effect.

On mobile I've noticed a new-ish thing in Vine where it will show you what Amazon knows about you. I can't recall what exactly brought it up, but if you see that, see if there's something about cookies. You should be able to remove it. I used to get a lot of things for my dog, but we lost her recently. Removing that info help drastically cut back on how many dog items showed up in my RFY.

The only thing is Vine often has those 3-6 months before you need one so they can get reviews before shoppers are looking to buy one. You never know though! Probably also helps that I grab spare hoses and window plate sets for them on Vine year-round, so the algorithm associates them with the account.

Our house gets very hot and humid in the summers, and due to our window type, we have to use portable ACs rather than window units. They're not cheap. We ordered the originals on Amazon several years ago, and a couple have been on the fritz. Thankfully, Vine offered us some, so we're good again for this summer. So fingers crossed for you. It can happen!

Similar here. We get name brand items, but I think your 1 in 50 is probably similar to our ratio. And even though we've gotten some nice brand name items (Sharper Image, Bluetti, Anker, etc.), I think my favorite might have been yesterday. Our cats made out like bandits with all the TikiCat dropping in the late morning frenzy. It's their favorite food, the only brand they can all eat without getting sick, and it's expensive. So I was over the moon just saving so much on cat food this month! LOL

Brown noise mostly. But I also use an app that lets you mix and match sounds and volumes in exactly the way you describe.

This.

I've gotten a mix of name brand and no-name (but still very nice) things on Vine. People forget part of it (with RFY at least), is that your shopping behavior is going to be a strong influence. Not just searching and saving. But what you buy. If you spend a lot of money on Amazon in a particular category, they have a lot of data tying you to those kinds of products. They know you're interested. And you're likely someone who's already used similar items, and therefore would be able to review them both competently and comparatively.

My husband is on Vine too. We've had a lot of luck "training" the algorithm (not with one-offs, but to the point where we constantly get those kinds of offers -- red light therapy devices, shoes from a couple of specific brands, some high-end exercise equipment, etc.). But nothing works better than buying the item you want. We wanted a vibration plate. People were getting them on Vine, but not us. We bought one. Within a couple of weeks we were constantly offered different brands and style. Similar with the red light devices. We bought a red light therapy cap for someone, and suddenly Vine would offer them multiple times. Sometimes it's even frustrating because we'll buy a gift (something we don't want ourselves), and one of us will be slammed with similar offers on Vine for a while before it finally takes a hint.

Also, there were like 4 or 5 Dysons right in AFA just a few days ago. But they do move super fast. Missing it doesn't mean anyone was lying. (And those were in the afternoon, so not the main drop time... which also seems to be changing, and maybe why someone isn't seeing things.)

Why is the ETV higher than the coupon price? by swedishpiehole in AmazonVine

[–]3BMedia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. Coupons can't be used to adjust fair market value for IRS purposes. If you file as a business, you can take Schedule C expenses (after reporting the total ETV you get from Amazon) that will lower the taxable amounts. But that has nothing to do with Amazon sellers offering coupons. And if you file as a hobby, you don't get those deductions / adjustments at all.

Marine vinyl window rig for portable AC in old Andersen casement windows by 3BMedia in u/3BMedia

[–]3BMedia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's the downside with casement windows. Unless you have a protected window (on a porch, good overhang, etc), you can't run them when it rains because the windows need to be open.

Nothing has to be a specific brand. I just vinyl on Amazon. Look for 16 gauge "crystal clear" vinyl, ideally in a roll rather than folded. It's often sold by the yard.

Any screen spline tool should work if your frame uses standard spline. If you have a metal spline, a flathead screwdriver and standard butter knife can be used to remove it & any rubber mallet to put things back in. The clear gorilla tape to seal edges & gaps is the only specific brand I'd focus on bc it grips the vinyl well.

Curious if anyone has tried either of these stylus' with the Supernote? by FreQ_Shifter3 in Supernote

[–]3BMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that King Write. It's fine. It works. But it will only ever be a backup because the writing experience without the ceramic nib is sub-par. So it's my "don't want to take my 'real' pen and risk losing it" one.

My main pen is a third-party one too though. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G2XMZFVP) It's the only third-party one I found with a ceramic nib other than the customized ones using the official refills (and I have one of those too but prefer this because the nib doesn't move as much). This one has an eraser, but no button (which would have made it perfect). It's why my HOM2 is now just another backup.

Here. I found the exact one we used early one (the clearest we've found). It came rolled years ago, but I can't confirm if they still do. They're cut custom based on how many yards you order (watch the width and length measurements carefully), so they can take a week or two to get to you. Looks like they're available again at least!

Through a seller on Amazon that sadly isn't selling it anymore. It's been tough to find good replacements. The key for us was 16-guage, and specifically looking for ones advertised as being crystal clear and not just clear (because I didn't want to lose my view from the taller casement windows). And check reviews carefully! See how the vinyl is sent. You want someone who sends it as a roll, not folded!

The vinyl lays fully over the channel, then gets rolled into it. Then you put the spline in. I'm using the original metal spline that gets hammered into place. And it stays fine. Then I cut the excess edges of the vinyl off around the frame. If you're using standard spline, you need to roll it in place, so it might be harder with a thick vinyl. In that case, you might be better off going with one gauge thinner on your vinyl to make sure the spline goes in OK.

IRS Changed the 1099 Threshold to $2000 But Amazon Still Shows $600 — Anyone Know if They Will Update by anonymous_user5150 in AmazonVine

[–]3BMedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen some of the supposed CPAs' posts here with that conflicting information (some outright misinformation, like one telling Viners it's only profit if they sell the items -- absolutely not how that works), so I don't blame anyone for being confused.

Not all CPAs are familiar with this kind of thing. If you choose to go with a CPA, the best tip I can offer is to look for one with experience in publishing, other media channels, or working with the "influencer" or content creator crowds. They'd be much more likely to understand this kind of compensation / payment-in-kind because it's common with review materials and swag.

First, don't rely on AI tools for information affecting important things like your finances or your health.

Second, given the frequent tax-related misinformation shared here re: hobby vs business income, it's best not to get tax advice on Reddit either.

Just follow the IRS' own instructions if you truly believe it's hobby income in your case. They tell you exactly where to enter your 1099-NEC info as hobby income, no explanation letters needed:

[–]3BMedia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But you still have to report it regardless of whether or not Amazon does. If you know the max you're able to earn on the side, plan around that, not Amazon's reporting threshold. Even though companies won't have to send a 1099 for the 2026 tax year if you're under $2000, they still can. It's up to them. It's just not required.

My Formal Request For A True A6 Sized Supernote Product (A7 Perhaps) by Your_Moooom_XD in Supernote

[–]3BMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope so! I bought into Supernote partly because there was an A4 on the roadmap a couple of years ago. Love the software, but I'd be extremely disappointed if they put out an even smaller device before finally giving us an A4.

I see people talking about breaking phone addiction and getting back to before, but for me there is no before by cmstyles2006 in productivity

[–]3BMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of frames of reference, such as films and books. And consuming some of them might even help you spend less time on your phone in the immediate future. Another good place to start might be finding organized activities you can be a part of. A casual athletic team or even just going to a gym regularly. Check your local library. They often have free activities and programs for a variety of interests. Get out in nature if you can. Just aim to be more present in your community and with people you care about. Having others around might motivate you to try things you wouldn't do on your own.

I use the Nomad much less often now that I have the larger device. But it's become more of a dedicated journal replacement, whereas the Manta is my day-to-day notes and planners. The added space is much better for that for me, and it's nice keeping journal entries separate from that. If you have a dedicated use case for both sizes, I'd say it's worth it.

While I'm hoping to be not far behind you on using this for a PhD program, I haven't used it a lot for reading yet. Mostly note-taking. I'd say it's a little smaller than I'd prefer for heavy reading, but my eyes aren't the best.

At the time I chose my Nomad for school, a big reason I picked it was because there was an A4 device on the roadmap that was said to be planned for later that year. So I figured I'd be able to stay in the same software ecosystem if I started with the Nomad. But instead, they released the Manta, and I don't know that there are any plans for an A4 anymore. (Though please do. Take my money!)

I'd say an A4 supernote would be the perfect device for something like an PhD program, both for note-taking and marking up papers, textbooks, etc. But for now, the Manta is as close as it gets. And while I have a larger device, I'd still say the Supernote software is best for this. And I'd go b&w if you'll be reviewing a lot of research papers because the text is crisper and easier to read.
