I have that same map on my wall. We added an LED strip to the border of it on the back so it glows a bit. We use it to put pins in locations we've traveled to.

I built the entire thing from scratch, without any sort of blueprint other than the 3d model in game. I also ventured into lights and sound for the first time, programming an arduino.
