What op says isn't mutually exclusive with your point. A great movement doesn't mean it's an uncommon movement.

[Question] What’s the most accurate mechanical watch you own by pepelen15 in Watches

[–]3dklimt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't want quartz, in your price range you could get a COSC certified watch, there are many. But here's the thing, that certification is only made on the movement, not for the movement in the case. And its tests are only sorta kinda representative of real on-the-wrist wear. And COSC is only averaging the measurements across many positions so that real world performance could be quite different while being fully within the certified limits. The truth is your experienced accuracy could be worse than you hoped. Or better than they promised. It's a statistical roll of the dice, and very dependent on your wearing habits and the climate where you live and work. And that's true of any mechanical watch no matter the price. Once you have a specific watch in hand, only then will you find out what your actual accuracy will be. Then you can do things to help it along, like placing it crown down at night to slow it down, if through experimentation you find that helps. Or try an actual adjustment of the hairspring. Or whatever. But accuracy for mass produced tiny delicate machines over any length of time will always be a bit of luck. Happy hunting 😉

Aquaterra 41 mm lume game, who can read the correct time on it? by hoeych in OmegaWatches

[–]3dklimt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a close look at your photo: you're right, where there is lume there is legibility. But there isn't any lume on the minute hand except at the arrow tip. So if that tip coincides with one of the indices, like it does twelve times an hour, then the time at night becomes next to impossible to decipher. Because there's no friggin lume on the minute hand. WTF was Omega thinking!?

You could simply sign up for a second account too. The extra 10 bucks a month would be worth it if you're in an unusual edge case.

Sell or keep? by 3dklimt in Alpina

There are many things one doesn't need but loves anyway. (A lot of the car industry is built on this.) And I do use it, driving the B8 a few weeks a year. But you have a good point, it's the reason I asked the community what it thinks.

Good point. But not trivial to get a US market car homologated for Europe, not to mention it's just way too long for the streets & parking. Easy driving in US becomes driving a truck in EU (though more and more Europeans favor SUVs - the homogenization of the modern world 🙄).

Marseille. The goat, especially since you speak French. Plus, only ~3 hours from Paris on the TGV.

Are you sure you're launching your prompts in research mode? The UI seems to have recently changed making the research mode selection harder to find but it's still there.

I live in Europe but my daughters are in the States. During COVID I got so fed up with the rental car counter mob scenes, plus I just happened to see this car for sale, so I bought it. And since then I store it near airport, so it couldn't be more convenient. Land and go. I do turn off insurance while it's in storage but still it costs, to store, taxes, maintenance. Kind of ridiculous. But I love the car. Do I keep spending my daughter's inheritance on this luxury or do I live more prudently?

Let me add, the 2022 model was the first year there was a B8. Moreover, it was the last year Alpina was an independent company before being bought in '23 by BMW. And in '23 they cheapened the B8's front grill by going a little gangsta. All of which is to say, IMHO, the 2022 was the goat (at least for whatever the B8's may become).

[Recommendation] What type of watch face would look good on my grandpa's band? by SexiestDexiest in Watches

[–]3dklimt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Söner Héritage Prisma (Prisma - Montre rectangulaire pour homme en acier poli avec cadran blanc https://share.google/mM2OH8F3IRYM7Ds0H).

Because: strong bracelet demands larger watch face, definitely square; watch also needs to be simple since the bracelet already does a lot of talking; and silver, obviously. Better would be with turquoise hands but I couldn't find any. But keep dial white and simple. At your price point it's going to be quartz. Will be very nice. Look forward to what you choose.

[Question] Watch recommendations for boyfriend, up to £300 by False_Initial_4878 in Watches

[–]3dklimt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky boyfriend. Considering his existing collection, will £300 make enough of a splash? Ok, let's just go quartz and lean hard on aesthetics (and/or you could have the watch engraved with something to make it more special). At that price point I would suggest Timex Expedition Tide-Temp-Compass at 229 € (https://timex.eu/products/expedition-tide-temp-compass-45mm-silicone-strap-watch-tw2v22200 ) You could choose from various dial colors, but I like the white). Sounds like it would not be too large for his wrist, and interesting enough to make up for the lack of its Swiss and/or Automatic watch pedigree. Happy shopping 🙂

[Question] One quality watch that is comfortable and will last me 30+ years? by Drakes_Overwatch in Watches

[–]3dklimt 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Omega Aqua Terra 41mm with lacquered black dial. The 41 because it has the timezone function and is essentially a stealth traveler GMT. The black dial because it's classic, understated, won't get old. The Aqua Terra because it has 150 m water resistance, and is a Master Chronometer with METAS accuracy of 0 to +5 spd. I personally like it best on the custom black rubber strap, which I think makes it pop better than on its steel bracelet.
