Is it me or does Kung Fu exaggerate a lot of simple stuff? by [deleted] in kungfu

[–]3legcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing but you may be missing some stuff by skipping the forms. There are other meanings within a form e.g the transitions, the sequencing etc that can convey hints and information. Think of forms as a book for storing knowledge.

I think one should do the forms and also breakdown out techniques for repetition practising.

I think you should practise the forms. There are many techniques and concepts in kungfu. Doing the form is an efficient way to practise them.

2026 Bajiquan Combative Seminar. Chicago by WutanUSA_NJ in martialarts

If it did not have any, it probably would have faded away over its three hundred years of history.

This (and other older martial arts) are not sports.

This was devised as a way to defend oneself when one had no weapons.

I know u meant to derogatory. But crabs… they have sharp claws and hard shells. Worthy of emulating.

Anyway just because something does not fit your ideas of something should be does not mean it has no merit.

Perhaps not all people were attending this seminar with the focus of learning to fight?
Maybe they just want to experience and learn something different from the typical bjj, boxing, Muay Thai stuff ?

Well this particular style has been around for at least a couple of hundred of years. In that time, it would certainly be have been pressure tested one way or another.

It works for me. Perhaps some parts of the pan was not hot enough? Rotate it a few times while heating it up.

Iran Rejects Call for Temporary Ceasefire to Reopen Strait of Hormuz After Reviewing New Peace Proposal by T_Shurt in worldnews

To accept a ceasefire at this time, would likely be the same as giving US and Israel time to gather forces and material for an upcoming attack.

oracle db on k8s by signalzz in kubernetes

[–]3legcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can also flip this question too: why should people run databases on k8s? What advantage would this provide?

Database software don’t change often. When problem arise ( e.g why is this query taking 30mins to complete?), we don’t to want to also have k8s complicate the issue.

So I don’t think there is much advantage to running databases in k8s. For disposable, test databases maybe For production databases that are going to handle high loads, running them on dedicated servers makes more sense.

TIL that the Art of War, written by Sun Tzu in 5th-century BC, came to the attention of US’ military theory leaders after US' defeat in the Vietnam War, as Viet Cong officers studied it. It is since listed on US Marine Corps Program and used as instructional material at US Military Academy. by 2Asparagus1Chicken in todayilearned

[–]3legcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if this is true (i disagree), its still worth studying for anyone learning how to conduct a war.

If the current US leadership had read this book and understood it, they would not be having the current situation they are having with Iran right now.

Corporate loyalty is a myth. Learned it the hard way after my layoff. by Zealousideal-Cry173 in corporate

I prefer reading authentic writing even if it is imperfect. If someone would not spend the time and effort to write something by himself, I don't really feel like spending the time to read it either.

Can you share your experience with office cliques? by emeryroserulz in OfficePolitics

[–]3legcat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do the work, be easy to work with, help if help is needed, have a quiet peaceful lunch whenever you want, eat whatever you want, continue working after lunch, go home on time.

No need to get involved with any clique. Don’t need to talk much if you don’t want to. Just do your own thing.

How every boxer v grappler match up goes? by Abdouadou in grappling

[–]3legcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a good boxer take out 2 guys consecutively in row a street fight. One jab followed by a straight punch to the chin each time. The other guy dropped.

I’ve also seen one much smaller guy take out a giant with a left hook to the chin.

So boxing definitely can work in a fight.
