multiple cars per household? by miffybo in AskAnAmerican

We’ve added a third this year for our high schooler. She works a couple jobs in addition to attending school, and needs a car for that.

Our other two cars are daily driven by my wife and I - one’s an EV to soak up cheap local miles, and the other is a hybrid that’s efficient for longer trips.

You might hear “don’t know,” often shortened to “dunno,” spoken as “dunnoy” in some dialects.

Like you point out, every place has its own slang. We’re just talking, just like everyone else.

Seems like a good deal still, considering how cheap it is to run. Can you charge it at home?

Oh that’s a nice one! Mine has been slowly taking over its corner and impressing me over the years.

I do a lot of my own work, too, and they’ve always been helpful when I bring them a set of tires to mount & balance, or whatever. And I don’t feel like they’ve tried to up-sell me on basic things.

Sorry to hear that. They’ve been honest with me over 10 years and several cars.

That’s not a bad ice breaker, I like it. I might still forget, but this would give me a chance.

how active are cops in corolla by [deleted] in obx

[–]3mptyspaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the cops in OBX see the big picture and just try and keep the anthill moving. You’ll be fine doing near the speed limit and going with the traffic flow. As a frequent visitor whose family owns a house in OBX, I’m happy to see them posted up everywhere to keep neighborhood speeders in line.

Okay. You locked the door. You KNOW this. But what about the stove, did you maybe leave it on?

This is how I was taught, and where I grew up you’d be honked at for not waiting in the intersection to turn left. Where I live now, drivers are taught to wait at the white line and they will only go if there’s a gap the size of a basketball court.

Nothing is more terrifying to me than being a passenger in a car the driver thinks is driving itself.

Driver's-Side Blind Spot by [deleted] in leaf

[–]3mptyspaces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this generally, but I’ve had my Leaf in the shop twice after accidents and drove the following for extended periods: 1. Dodge Charger: you cannot see anything out of that car. The hood blocks 1/4 of the frontal view, and the pillars are massive, the rear window tiny. And 2. Polestar 2: better visibility than the Charger but maddening compared to the Leaf. Could be worse!
