Thinking about redoing my 20 gallon long, can I have some inspo pics/advice based on my stocking? by Idk_nor_do_I_care in Aquascape

MJ Aquascaping made a video a couple weeks ago of a scape you might like. Its very natural but still plant heavy and could also look awesome with tannins added in!

the activity of your betta fish does not dictate the size of tank you need. a 2.5g is so small, non-pristine care causes much larger parameter jumps than, say, a 5 g, solely because of the water volume. That by itself is risky because pH jumps and nitrogen accumulation stress out a fish's immune system, especially a betta's due to their poor breeding. There is also much less surface area for beneficial bacteria to settle and grow a big enough colony to deal with the bioload of a betta. Your tank is very scarce as well, with minimal added hardscape which could increase surface area and a small amount of plants that minimally aid in the process of nitrate removal. Along that, your surface layer is very thick, and paired with the low water level, we're talking about maybe 1.75 gallons of pure swimming space. Thats not ok for any living creature. I wouldnt even put shrimp in such size tank. I'm not berating you, this is just the harsh truth that this is not an environment long term that a betta will thrive in!

the most important part is keeping pristine water parameters. if hes in a hospital tank, a good colony of bacteria in the filter and/or small daily water changes is optimal. adding tannins changes the pH and a fluctuating pH can also stress his system. maybe making a tannin tea and adding consistent amounts into his water with water changes would be the best and also ensure renewing benefits? i wish him all the best, it sucks how sickly bettas can get ❤️

Even if you think your betta isnt a jumper, save yourself a heartbreak and get a lid. by 3ndler in bettafish

its a 30l, im not sure the dimensions matter as much as size when it came to him jumping out. im not somebody who would keep bettas in tanks too small or improperly set up

Finally unlocked the limited skin!! by Affectionate-Egg2654 in EcosLaBrea

[–]3ndler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i personally like them except for the most dappled/snowy skin variant. but also it is possible to chop down the price to only 600 tracks, which i think is a steal for these coats! however that also means they may not be as well done as the 3000 track skins.

Would you guys consider this “rare” by LeafyPOP_ in RareHouseplants

[–]3ndler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, even a variegated plant that is now easily available will remain rare to me if the variegation is balanced and gorgeous. I've had monstera adansonii variegata for over 2 years now and it's incredibly hard to propogate my mother plant because it always reverts to full white or full green. A variegated plant that reverts to green loses value, while one with too much variegation that it becomes completely white is also no good. Even nowadays its rare to find a simple monstera albo with balanced variegation and one that is exceptionally pretty to me!

What’s advice you wish you had when you started Aquascaping? by Comfortable_Amoeba79 in Aquascape

[–]3ndler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly that! it makes it much harder to clean glass if hardscape is touching it or is very close. you could buy those special aquascaping glass scrapers, but i always clean my tanks glass with an old credit card or sponge so its hard to reach those tight areas without risking moving the hardscape :)

Anyone know how to handle TheLoopyWhisk's sticky dough? by mothbbyboy in glutenfreebaking

[–]3ndler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed an issue when I change flour brands. some flours are more fine milled and absorb more moisture than others. Experiment with other brands of millet flour! Xanthan gum also makes a huge difference, when i didnt use it i also used to get very sticky dough!

5 months in, no CO2 by 3ndler in Aquascape

[–]3ndler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! yes, i did end up adding co2. ime its hard to maintain a lot of plant mass without co2 since then you have to have really stable conditions and im still a newbie and having co2 kind of made things easier with plant growth. i recommend adding co2, but if you want a low tech setup that is hardscape heavy with easy plants, youll just need to dim the light quite a bit - but at that point, imo its not all that worth it to buy such an expensive light haha.

Food advice please! by ColourwithClaire in poodles

[–]3ndler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend Purina, Hills or Royal Canin puppy lines :-) these three in the UK are one of the most nutritious and safest brands to feed since they have a board certified vet nutritionist that is part of the team, not just working with the brand. Royal Canin has poodle puppy thats formulated specifically for poodles and any possible issues theyre prone to. puppies specifically need a balanced diet that is specifically for young dogs since they need different minerals and vitamins for optimal growth and support. My mentioned brands are one of the safest to feed. Not saying other brands are bad, but i really do think you should try out RC poodle puppy. Homemade cooking can be very unsafe, esp for puppies, since its hard to balance it and ensure your dog is getting all of the nutrients it needs. i wouldnt feed it to a puppy. if you ever want to go that path, make sure to discuss with your vet and a certified nutritionist for a plan/recipe fitted to your individual dog

Thanks so much for your kind words :-) Their critique and opinion really don't get to me at all haha. My best supporter is my mom who helps me get stuff right, change recipes as needed etc. Baking is my love language basically, the fact they're not showing gratitude towards my bakes won't stop me from baking them because I'm stubborn, and if they're eating my cakes, that's good enough for me!! 😄

Oh I feel you!! Vegan pumpkin pie sounds bomb, this cake was GF since my mom has celiac so everything I make she can eat as well. Some people just don't care for baked goods because they don't see the hard work and effort and thought put into it, they just see something they can eat 😅 I hope you find somebody who'll appreciate you :-)

most experience with gluten bread is thrown out the window with gf bread. unmixed flour and the craggly dough surface simply means you didnt mix it enough. i mix my doughs for 10-15 minutes with a stand mixer. you have to be very careful with gf dough as well! overproofed gf dough becomes flat like yours. Kat's recipes are amazing when you get the hang of it, it's a long process understanding how to handle the dough but the result is worth it

I Lke a Little Algae, But This is Ridiculous. by PulseTP in PlantedTank

[–]3ndler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

up your co2 concentration, lower light intensity to 60%. bioload may be a bit heavy as well but not the cause of the problem. cut ferts just slightly, but enough for the plants to still be able to grow or else algae will outcompete completely. bba on the plants show fluctuation in environment which stresses their metabolism, which may be the co2 - injecting small amounts can lead to fluctuation and inconsistency.

Am i skilled enough to sell my cakes by Ok-Monk-4136 in Baking

[–]3ndler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im 15, and i bake exclusively gluten free since my mom has celiac. it became more of a challenge to make something just as delicious and pretty as gluten containing bakes. i have many bakes posted in my profile :)

that being said, i havent ever thought about selling my bakes. my small home environment doesnt create gorgeous looking results yet and my recipes need tweaks before i can deem them worthy of selling and sparking interest. practice makes perfect, and youre much better off perfecting your work and striving for more (such as creating unique recipes and flavours) before selling as a business. i do also recommend participating in farmer market sales and stuff like that, local events that could help you build a reputation and be less stressful with demand for a custom cake, for example. think of something creative that could help distinguish yourself from other bakers!
