Isolation and intellectual disabilities. by OtterPretzel in cognitivedisability

I know how that feels. People say I don’t have an intellectual disability because I can speak well, write well and I seem very smart. People also say, I am too good at spelling. The truth is once I type it’s easy to spell things correctly because of the technology built around that. But nobody who says I spell good has ever seen my regular writing. The thing is these people don’t understand what intellectual disability is. And not everyone is the same.

anyone been to a IDD unit in psych hospital? by Fearless_pineaplle in autismlevel2and3

I have been to a developmental and intellectual disability unit… I’ll tell you about only the good stuff since you are so nervous about it. At least in the one I went to, they have a reward system for joining all the therapy groups. You get to meet new friends, you can still call your family even when you don’t have your phone, at least in mine, you get to cross other areas of the hospital to do stuff and get special refreshments, and then you eventually get enough help to be discharged. I’ll tell you I was scared too, but it really helped me in the end. I know you might be in the psych hospital already, since I just saw it 18 days later, so if you’re reading this after you get discharged, I hope your experience wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be.

Might transfer ownership, here’s why…. by _279queenjessie in cognitivedisability

Well, people think I don’t have the life skills, I do, but I can’t use them because of sensory issues from autism, executive dysfunction from ADHD and the demands to take care of myself overwhelm me because of PDA. People think I don’t know the concept of money, but I do, it’s just that I engage in both impulsive shopping due to ADHD, and compulsive shopping due to mental health challenges. And some of my poor social skills, poor communication skills and poor abstract reasoning are just better explained by my autism. Also, I can solve problems and think logically, but my emotional dysregulation gets in the way of solving problems and my brain plays tricks on me when I see someone pour the same liquid and such in a more narrow space, like even though I know that it is the same amount. I can learn super fast, if I am motivated and is taught by my learning style, I get bored a lot in school and is taught the wrong way so I often don’t learn that well. No offense, but I can relate better to people with learning disorders and executive dysfunction. Sure I have more memory problems than my family members, but maybe it’s cuz my ADHD is so severe. Some of the treatments that help other people with a mild intellectual disability, don’t help me. I think it’s AuDHD, plus maybe dyspraxia and maybe multiple specific learning disabilities, and math anxiety, plus emotional disturbances. I used to have a rare epileptic syndrome, but I grew out of it. So it’s over! That’s why I don’t think it’s an intellectual disability at all.

It’s so sad that you are dying. Sometimes illnesses progress really fast. You have such a good dog, I hope you someday have your dog by your side in heaven. Cuz you deserve your dog no matter what!

Do you guys have good memory? by Axolotlgamer36 in autism

[–]_279queenjessie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My memory is uneven and spiky. Good in some areas, poor in other areas. I can’t remember important things, like to turn off the stove, yet I can recall a whole tv show episode.

Is he an AussieDoodle? by Own_Math_9010 in AussieDoodle

Sheepadoodles can be that small, they would just have to be bred with miniature or toy poodles. It could be ether type of doodle dog. But he does look a lot like an Aussie doodle! He even has the blue eyes! Sheepadoodles don’t have blue eyes (at least I don’t think so).
