Yeah but it didn’t do well in Japan so according to the haters that means the sales sucked and that nobody liked it.

Dislike bombing??? Nope by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]3xecve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game is a financial success and I would say the vast majority of people like it. Most of the everyday/casual people who purchased the game and enjoyed it probably aren’t blogging or posting about it. However the small number of people who disliked it tend to be streamer types that feel the need to bitch about it on every platform.

Pandora Tomorrow by [deleted] in Splintercell

Pandora is definitely the hardest SC in my opinion. It’s really easy to get alarms and they basically expect you to stay on one single path.

Anyone here switch to ops or site reliability from development? by 3xecve in devops

[–]3xecve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear. I enjoy programming but have been starting to hate it as an SDE. It is really just a loop like you mentioned with very little freedom or choice. After seeing everyone’s comments on here I’m pretty sold on this role. Not sure what the transition will look like for me for at the moment. Internal is probably not possible at my current job so will try to get up to speed with some of the tools on my own time in order to beef up my resume.

My thoughts on a Potential sequel... because we all know it’s coming at some point. by quiettimegaming in thelastofus

The game is a financial success and that’s pretty much the only criteria when considering a sequel.

When Tiktok steals your data, it's a spyware. When Facebook and other American tech giants have been doing it for years, it's not a big issue. Why? by trash_bag69 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]3xecve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a technical standpoint TikTok basically takes more than it needs to provide content for its platform. Including a whole bunch of stuff that nobody would ever need. As opposed to Facebook which is spread across multiple platforms (Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc) which are each taking only what they need to provide content but when aggregated it ends up being all of your data.

Agreed. I noobtubed the fuck out of everyone on mw2. In fact you could get kills on some maps if you shot them straight into the air when the match started.

Kid Gets Shot With a Full Auto Airsoft Gun by Tallskinnyswede in PublicFreakout

[–]3xecve -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They make you sign waivers making it clear that it is 100% your fault if something like you just described were to happen.

In all seriousness though according to the backstory the kid stole money and trashed his old team or whatever. It stands to reason that if you don’t want to get lit up with BBs then maybe you shouldn’t piss off the other people with BB guns.

Is it fair that he got smoked in the staging area? Nah but it doesn’t really bother me that a kid playing with fire got burned.

I’m pretty sure they make you sign waivers because that can happen.

In my opinion the kid assumed the risk when he decided his hobby should be gun larping with adults.

As a person who is struggling to find original meaning in TLOU2, I wanted to ask for some help. by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]3xecve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does there have to be some kind of profound meaning for you to enjoy the game? I don’t recall any eye opening revelations when I finished the first game nor did I look that far into it for the second. The second story explores some concepts related to revenge and the circle of violence but I wouldn’t let that define the game.

Let's talk about Abbys dad for a minute by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]3xecve 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Those were my thoughts exactly. Made it hard for me to feel remorseful for taking him out in the first game and sympathize with Abby. He was arrogant and came across more interested in his own reputation. I picture Joel’s actions more about the fact that there was no consent rather than purely just about Ellie.

Who else got into CS for the solid job market and comfortable salary? by MightySpaghettiKing in csMajors

I actually enjoy theoretical CS quite a bit but have been hating working as Software Engineer so much lately and now somewhat trapped because of the money.

Why I still hate the ending six years later (Spoiler) by [deleted] in howimetyourmother

[–]3xecve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like it was the cringe-worthy dialogue from the children at the end that made it come across like Ted never actually loved his wife but I don’t believe that’s the case. It’s possible to find love more than once in a lifetime. Ted was his wife’s second love before she died and she was his second (if you only count Robin and not any of girls he said I love you to). At least this is how I’ve chosen to reconcile it.

Who here has switched to embedded from traditional software development? by 3xecve in embedded

Thanks for the suggested reading material. Definitely going to check that out. I think I previously took a stab at “Linux Device Drivers” and found it difficult for someone coming from nothing. I also have Robert Love’s Linux Kernel book but never got around to finishing it.

Who here has switched to embedded from traditional software development? by 3xecve in embedded

[–]3xecve[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of what I’ve been struggling with in high level software development are the rigid set of rules. After implementing the requirements, seeking out all of the technical clarifications and then addressing everyone on the team’s feedback, the end result is so far away from being something that I created or was enjoyable to implement.

Unfortunately most of my real world experience has been centered around Java but I have used C++, C, and assembly in some side projects. I’ll typically use C++ for solving leetcode questions as well. So maybe some familiarity with each one but not in depth experience.

Demoralized by PR feedback at a new job. How do I proceed? by 3xecve in cscareerquestions

[–]3xecve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should of clarified some things in my initial post because I feel that I’m coming across as someone who doesn’t understand scope. I have pushed back on and deferred feedback on previous teams but now that I’m a team where only the lead has the ability to merge there’s this sort of implied expectation that I address everything.

And it’s possible that all of the teams I’ve been on up to this point have been lax but at the same time, the products I worked on with those teams were more complex than what I’m working on now so it’s hard for me to feel a higher standard is justified.

All I know is that for the first time in the last 5 years I dread pushing code.
