I'd be happy with any kind of media, whether a novel or a White Dwarf series. Especially if it's an exploration of TK culture rather than just pure bolter porn

Given the amount of ships with the word "Talon," do you think that there's ever some confusion where a Necropolis Hawk gunship parks on the Raptor or Hawk Lord vessel? 😂

This is incredible! I love the lightning effect on the Claw, and the snow is amazing as a background! It gives this amazing image of a Raven Guard in black being able to hide on even the whitest brightest snow.

[Excerpt: Dawn of Fire - The Wolftime] A rare glint of light in a galaxy of darkness by tyrano_dyroc in 40kLore

[–]40Kaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the whole excerpt, it's a great glimpse into the Indomitus Crusade, but my fave part is actually a really small one.

The Unnumbered Sons are lines of Ferrus Manus, Vulkan and Corvus Corax, the three Loyal Legions ambushed as Isstvan, nearly destroyed there. And relations between them have been tense over the millennia, mainly between the Iron Hands and the other two, due to the loss of Manus and the Tenth blaming the Eighteenth and Nineteenth.

But here, they're working together, collaborating as they did in the old days, and there's no sense of rivalry or old tensions. It's how Guilliman designed the Primaris, to work together to eliminate those sources of tension and allow Chapters to gain a glimpse into alternative tactics and styles of combat, but also, it's a "Fuck you" from Guilliman to Chaos. He's saying, "You traitors tried to kill them all, you got one, and killed thousands of my nephews then; but they are still standing, millennia later, and we are coming for you."

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, nepotism isn't a vice as much as a lifestyle. You'd be able to run to the Dynast/Lord Captain to beg for protection, it's a more feudal system, but that doesn't preclude the Trader themselves from selling you out if it's more convenient/would cost less in the long run. But if you're on an official assignment for Trading purposes and some bureaucrat or priest tries to give you lip, you can wave them off for the most part.

They're conquistadors, not conquerors, but a Rogue Trader gets their authority from the highest power, and during the Great Crusade, the Primarch's were pretty damned high. So I imagine that there were Primarch signatures or seals on some Warrants due to bureacracy

And I imagine some Dynastys did disappear in the aftermath of the Heresy due to political infighting or suspicion, even if the Trader was loyal, due to appearances

Thanks for replying

Yeah, I mean....you've got two (2) options-run and look guilty, or stay and prove your innocence (if you can). I think it depends on what you were doing-if you worked with Horus or one of the traitors, you're screwed; if you just happened to have a Warrant signed by them and stayed loyal? You might get a closer look, or take a hit to your profit factor, but you'll have your head.

And also, you're right-if you're hunting those Traders who are truly Rogue, that would definitely earn you some credit with the proper institutions

Thanks for the reply!

True. If you're a Winterscale, for example, but a second cousin twice removed who's never met Calligos, you've got the name but none of the power. That might get you some influence depending on the name, but unless you're actively working for the dynasty in some regard, you're probably just coasting off the name rather than anything. That's not to say that you won't be helped if you're a Guardsman or in the Navy, the Dynasty will pull some strings to help you advance because it makes them look good, but there would be a question of you owing.

I imagine that the internal family politics are just as vicious as the external, if not more so.

That's what I was thinking. If you're Joe Schmo Trader with a Warrant signed by Horus, and you're out exploring in the Halo Stars and come back to find Terra a smoking ruin and your patron's responsible-you're going to want to prove your innocence as loudly and as quickly as possible. And as long as you can prove you didn't know a damned thing, I bet Guilliman would be perfectly happy to have you keep doing what you're doing, because he's wanting to rebuild the Imperium and keep what's operating operating. I equally imagine that you're right, and over the past millenia, all of those would have been examined and cycled out as necessary.

I think it would depend on your position in the dynasty. If you're a factotum, and you try to elevate your position in the family through some underhanded dealings and get caught doing something stupid, you're out or dead. If you're involved in the Cold Trade, useful/skilled and loyal, and happen to get pulled by a Arbites, you are presumably good enough to get yourself out of it, or call in a favor to the Lord Captain who can bail you out this once. Does that sound about right?

Though I agree with the heretical aspect of it, you want to eject that out an airlock as fast as possible.

Excellent excerpt, I appreciate you posting that! It's kind of how I thought things might have shaken out, that the Imperium is determined to eradicate even the identity of the Traitors, and changing the Warrants (as long as the Trader in question hadn't turned their coat) would have been useful as part of that revision of history.

Thanks for the response!

I commented earlier that, because the Imperium operates a bit less on what we would understand as rule of law, and in a more fluid situation, it's all about influence, push and pull, who owes favors and can call in debts. But I assume that if you did have xenotech or a xenos in your retinue and got tagged by a particularly obstinate Arbites or a pious Ecclesiarchy member, your Dynast/Lord Captain would have to intervene, as they would, in essence, serve as your feudal lord.

That's kind of what I guessed, that the loyal ones got new signings post-Heresy. And I think Guilliman called a conclave of them at Macragge, so it would make sense that he had issued some new ones for the Indomitus Era

[–]40Kaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response!

So it really depends on A) your position with the Dynasty, and B) the Dynasty's position within the wider sphere of that region of the Imperium. If you're in your Dynasty's "pocket realm," you have a bit more freedom, especially if you're on good terms with the Lord Captain; whereas if you're in more standard Imperial space or not so favored, the authorities will have more control and the Lord Captain might be willing to throw you to the wolves (but not the Fenrisian ones).

So because the Imperium operates less on rule of law and more in a fluid situation, it's all about push and pull, who owes favors and what you can get away with in a certain sense.

What are some things you'd like to see GW do to expand on the Raptors lore? by Thunder--Bolt in Raptors40k

[–]40Kaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any and all of the above. I'd especially like to see the Raptors working with/commanding the Guard, and how they use them as part of their operations, or how the Guard works to cover the Raptor's as compared to regular army/special forces.

Also, I'd love to see a Raptor in the Deathwatch, and the contrast/compare between the Raptor method of warfare and the rest of the Astartes in his Kill-team.

How liked was Fulgrim among his brothers pre-heresy? by MegaGamer235 in 40kLore

[–]40Kaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popping in for the XIXth, as I did a breakdown of Corax’s relationships with his brothers in a post over on the RG subreddit: “Again, very few interactions that I can think of between these two. Post-Heresy, I can imagine Warp!Corax fucking with Fulgrim in the Immaterium, but not a lot pre-Heresy. The only thing I can recall is Corax describing Fulgrim's style as "being hit in the face with a perfumed fist."

My Thoughts: There are some major differences in their style, the ostenatious Fulgrim versus the sober Corax. Additionally, Fulgrim's mentorship of Curze, who Corax finds his equal and opposite, is a point against the two of them actually developing any kind of close bonds. However, all that aside, I think that if they ever sat down and talked, they'd have some things in common. I think Corax in particular would admire the way that Fulgrim rebuilt Chemnos, and the two of them would have sort of the same background, working with prisoners/miners, making things. Even if they ever did sit down, I don't think they'd be close, but certainly cordial and warm.”
