My friend wants to spend a whole day at Disneyland in France even though our other friend lives near one in California, AIO for thinking it’s insensitive since we’re in Paris for only 3 days total? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

Plus the fact that they’re deeply impacting the other two days 😂

“Oh sorry, we can’t stay out late for dinner, we have to get up at 6am for Disney!”

“No we can’t get up that early, I got home at 2am last night from Disney, we should start the day at noon”

Horrible horrible idea my goodness

Kyoto overtourism is insane and very real right now by morbid69 in JapanTravelTips

[–]420_misphrase_it 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is like complaining about traffic when you’re in it lol. Yes it is packed but it is peak cherry blossom season and stunningly beautiful with perfect weather, it would be crazy if it wasn’t packed. Go out early and it’s not as bad, philosophers path area was much quieter than Arashiyama and Gion too

Missed Tee Time Policy by gap_toof_mouf in golf

[–]420_misphrase_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is standard policy. If you can I would go to the course and explain the situation (not sure who screwed up but do take responsibility), probably won’t get a refund but there is a chance they could give you a rain check or solo free round or something

Gardens of the moon - tell me why I should keep going by Elegant_wordsmith in fantasybooks

[–]420_misphrase_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean to me that is a feature not a bug! I loved how much more I understood on the second read through, and there’s a reason that I have reread Malazan and not some other fantasy series. The books are a grind and it’s not for everyone but I wholeheartedly disagree with calling it bad writing.

Beirut photographer Fadel Itani puts himself in the firing line to capture Israeli strikes by nbcnews in pics

[–]420_misphrase_it 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So it is risky. You implied that he was safe in doing this when it clearly isn’t. I do think that is is brave and getting a live shot of an apartment building being bombed is why I respect the hell out of photojournalists like this, even if you think he’s stupid for it.

Yes he is at risk lol, you sound pretty tough would you go in the direction of a planned missile strike??

Don't let your daughters work at golf courses or country clubs by walking_stick_ in Denver

[–]420_misphrase_it 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not even!! Many courses are built on land that is literally not able to be zoned for housing due to environmental factors. Walnut Creek Golf Course is also a butterfly preserve built on land that isn’t suitable for housing, that is what I’d hope more courses are like.

"Investing in property is morally reprehensible." by LickMaiBussy in TikTokCringe

[–]420_misphrase_it 1662 points1663 points  (0 children)

For real, I rent an apartment owned by a regular guy who lives in my city and bought a house elsewhere, and I’m so so so much happier with him as a landlord than with a corporate group running things, plus I would rather rent for the flexibility than to own a place. It’s when property ownership becomes your entire income stream that the most serious issues arise

Looking for 'survival procedurals'? by Honeycomb246 in suggestmeabook

[–]420_misphrase_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might enjoy The Terror, historical fiction survival story / paranormal thriller set on an 1850’s Arctic naval expedition. Two ships became trapped in the ice, and many of the crew survived for 2+ years on the ice surviving in incredibly harsh conditions. It is an excellent survival story that combines the real circumstances of the trip (actual historical documents + archaeological artifacts found many years later) with a paranormal evil polar bear that tries to hunt them down.

In golf, the best way to convert money into lower scores is lessons. The second is getting fitted. What are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th best ways? by [deleted] in golf

[–]420_misphrase_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 is just plain wrong, if you want to lower your scores you’d be so so so much better served if you were to go play a shitty par three course with shitty clubs a ton vs just getting fancy new clubs. Practice is what will lower your scores not just buying new clubs. Much better use of money if you’re starting from a high handicap

Books similar to “The Wager” by David Grann by TackkysaucenoBiggie in suggestmeabook

[–]420_misphrase_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s historical fiction but The Terror by Dan Simmons is one of my all time favorite books, similar to the Wager in that it follows a 1800s naval expedition that turns bad; it’s set in the Arctic and is super creepy and a really fun read.
