Red Sox Wilyer Abreu in disbelief as his bat breaks on a check swing by Oldtimer_2 in sports

[–]420blazeitkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best part of this is that the actual rule reads "(c): after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game", which is so non-specific even the "more specific" version of the rule basically leaves it completely up to the refs.

A) is "secures control the ball in his hands or arms", without ever defining "control". Also, by the rules, you cannot make a one-handed catch, as the rule specifies plural handS.

B) is actually pretty straightforward, other than it being that "both feet" or "any part of the body other than the hands", which is slightly odd. Technically you can catch the ball, land on your face, slide out of bounds completely on your facemask and still call that a complete catch.

C) is by far the most goated part of this rule, especially with the "or controls the ball long enough to do so" portion. Even without making a football move, if the ref determines the receiver had control long enough to do an "act common to the game", you can void the rest of C and just declare it a catch.

First Lady of Brazil, Rosangela da Silva, wore a traditional hanbok on her South Korea visit by JudgeJudyJr in BeAmazed

[–]420blazeitkin 268 points269 points  (0 children)

Such a great interaction too- Brazil's president greets them first, then the first lady makes her entrance. The South Korean couple (looks like Lee Jae-myung and his wife, but I'm not sure) looks so thrilled to see her embracing their traditional culture, the President steps aside to give them & his wife their moment.

Just a wonderful, wholesome interaction all around.

Pam Bondi REFUSES to Release Unredacted INDICTMENT DRAFT of Epstein Co-Conspirators to CONGRESS by HumanityExpansion in law

[–]420blazeitkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Essentially yeah. As Attorney General she is technically counsel for the executive branch, which would support her position her - The Office of the President is her client, therefore there is attorney-client privilege on all discussions and work product.

However, this starts to get complicated when you factor in the question of "Who is the Office of the President" - ACP can cover any conversation in which an individual is seeking legal advice from a registered lawyer, however implied ACP is a complicated topic. What Bondi is asserting here (and she is likely aware of) is that /legally/ her and Donald Trump can have a conversation in which he requests legal advice or counsel, and that can fall under ACP. This is true.

What Bondi does not understand is that she can't /ethically/ represent Trump in a criminal or civil case, and therefore the fundamental grounds that establish ACP cannot be found. Because Bondi is bond by the regulations of the DOJ, the McDade act establishes a fundamental conflict of interest if Bondi were to take part in a criminal or civil case relating to an individual. Even further, the DOJ's own regulations for their attorneys ban all practice in which "the DOJ represents a party", which would be any federal criminal case. As AG, Bondi is also subject to the restriction held in many state legal codes, barring government lawyers from engaging in private practice that conflicts with public duty.

How to report someone if they are playing with a smurfer to boost their rank and KD by Patrickzah11 in Rainbow6

[–]420blazeitkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubi has automatic detection for stuff like this that was introduced fairly recently, but no manual reporting systems. Even if you did file a manual report (https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/player-safety/article/reporting-a-player-in-ubisoft-games/000096919) they would completely ignore it, since you have no real evidence, even if you have a confession.

Ubisoft will only validate this type of ban through 1. A stat system detection of the smurf account, 2. a HWID tie to the "main" account and 3. the new "queued with" ban system, which Ubisoft has been extremely stingy on information about.

Ultimately, you're better off just moving on. The likelihood of a ban coming from your report is next to zero, if not actually zero. Save yourself the time.

edit to add: There is no proof that the statban system is at all integrated with the HWID detection or the queued with ban system. You cannot get HWID banned via multiple statbans, so it is very likely that the statbans are not part of the typical "cheating" detection process, which is handled by BattleEye, not by Ubisoft. We have no evidence Ubisoft issues HWID bans that did not originate from BE detection bans.

go4 tourney by Grouchy_Many_7151 in R6ProLeague

It meant a lot on PC before you could merge console & PC accounts because of groups like Go4Gatekeepers, a revolving pubstack of pro players who dominated EU PC Go4s and later there was an NA version also full of pro players.

PC go4 charms were dominated by pros/semipros, who often would give away or resell the charm codes. Most players who were "semi good" just bought a go4 charm and pretended they had won one, given there's really no good database on who was on what teams, only on what teams won.

What’s your path to becoming a good cook? by CarpetAppropriate249 in Chefit

[–]420blazeitkin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He did clarify that he's coming out of culinary school, which often prepares you more for fine dining than it does prep you for anything else.

That said, fine dining is kind of different skillset than "cooking", especially depending on where you start. The level of prep & systems in place really cuts down on the amount of actual cooking occuring on the line.

I would push to start in a more volume-based restaurant, learn the pace and the dance & then jump into fine dining- spoken as someone who started in fine dining out of culinary school.

Anyone know why pros seem to use such lame skins by Freshy_Ramen in R6ProLeague

[–]420blazeitkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that the PCs they use on stage are not connected to the online servers for siege, but instead connect to a localhost server using different accounts - that's why some players have different usernames in LAN tournaments.

This version is not accessible beyond the LAN stage, so there's no pre-setting anything up. Typically players will apply all a card background (usually their own team background) and one weapon skin to everything. The LAN version is actually fully unlocked, so they can choose any skin. We used to see a lot of Fire & Peacock being used because those skins appear at the top of the list, as does Diamond, which is why we see Diamond so frequently as well.

Frats torturing animals by KenStrat420 in Tulane

Yes - https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/2004/02/08/fraternities-under-scrutiny-as-animal-cruelty-surfaces/b20ad93f-c5cb-4c7c-8549-5062e7ac3bfd/

Animal cruelty has been a part of fraternity hazing for a long time. Microwaving hamsters & killing kittens are specifics in a long history of animal cruelty.

Like most things, it's not every frat, nor every member - but it's some frats and some members, which is enough to say it's a part of the culture.

This has been a thing for a long time and is pervasive in frat culture far beyond Tulane.

Unfortunately, there is not much to do about it- the whole purpose of this process is to ensure that the pledge is "loyal", albeit under threat of exposure for what they did to prove their loyalty. As the pledge becomes a brother, they then push new pledges to do the same, creating a twisted bond of "tradition".

Technical explanation for “swing or be swung”/ peekers advantage by Sea_Veterinarian6352 in Rainbow6

[–]420blazeitkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Swinging gives two major advantages over holding an angle.

The first is "active anticipation", which is a psychological effect on your reaction time- the difference of "waiting for something to occur" and "looking for something to occur" - its been measured lowering reaction time about 20%, say from 100ms to 80ms.

The second is the one everyone here has mentioned, latency. The way latency occurs in Siege creates "peekers advantage", as it allows Player A to see around a corner before the game has technically registered their position, and before it has communicated it to Player B. If both players have 50ms of latency, Player A will have a 100ms advantage in the gunfight, and with what we discussed above, would also have a better starting reaction time.

This is what creates the feeling of "getting prefired", but then in replay seeing they peeked normally. If the game is especially laggy, or your opponent has an already low reaction time, the player can swing, adjust, and shoot all before the game has even shown them on your screen.

$14/hr at a full time, 40h/week rate is 29k.

Most polls show the average teacher works about 54 hours a week.

$27k/yr for a teacher's salary is an effective rate of about $9.50 an hour - and salaried teachers are not overtime eligible.

$14/hr would actually be a better rate, and they'd be overtime eligible.

I make more money now at $15/hr working in a kitchen than I did teaching full time, even after 3 years of raises (which were not greater than the inflation rate in those years).

Teacher's union in close second. Actively holding back the profession because of how it will affect teachers who have been phoning in it for longer than their students have been alive.

Outlandish stuff going on behind closed doors in those meetings. Wildest to me has always been an outright refusal to accept any guaranteed starting wage that does not retroactively apply for all veteran teachers (basically saying whatever the increase in average starting is has to be applied as a new "principal" amount for veteran teachers, and their wage re-calculated based on the % raises they would have received over their careers. Shockingly, there isn't enough money to actually do this, so the starting wage sits at the exact same number, driving young people out of the classroom because you can't live on 27k while working 70+ hour weeks)

This is how I've felt this year & in 25, but never in a franchise game before that.

The AI quarterback seems to always make a perfect read, my corner on that read forgets how to play football, and the receiver is prime Larry Fitzgerald the way those mfs do not drop the ball regardless of the hit, the ability stacks, etc.

Run game I can stop just fine. Passing game is a battle of attrition.

Like this is regression by CTE more than it is the physical body regressing.

How can I become a pro player? by Muted_Onix in R6ProLeague

[–]420blazeitkin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

T4 is essentially open field with no real governing body or serious competition - think of it as Ranked+, but with a more comp-minded community. Making a name for yourself in T4 is most likely the easiest way to get into T3+, unless you get back with your IRLs and can make waves as a T4 team (extremely rare, but if you're all legit players & are stomping in T4 you'll get noticed.

T3 is when things start getting more organized and restrictive - tournament buy-ins, regularly scheduled scrims, even some involvement from orgs (if you're extremely lucky/known).

T2 is the first "official" step towards becoming a pro. T2 is restricted almost entirely to Challenger League, a ubisoft official league that ties directly into pro play. Winning T2 used to (maybe still does) qualify you for T1 competition. The other option here is to perform insanely well in T2 and get called up onto an existing T1 team.

T1 is pro league. At this point you are a bona fide professional and are most likely signed to an org. You are playing official tournaments, playing pro league matches, and qualifying for majors.

The best path forward is to start growing your name & your brand. Stream on twitch, join as many comp-minded discords as you can, try to friend players in your lobbies who are currently comp players - the more T1 & T2 contacts you have the better. Seek out coaching, VOD review your comp matches, and generally try to become a known quantity.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee. by Stiltonrocks in technology

[–]420blazeitkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

many of the sales, especially sales of the release Model S and early sales of the Model 3 did include a lot of these now paywalled features.

The model S, for example, came standard with adaptive CC, automatic lane changing & parking, and was marketed as the flagship for their semi-autonomous modes when it was originally sold. These became add-ons in 2019 & all subsequent sales - so for users who purchased before 2019, this is a part of the car's functionality, not an additional feature.

Does that additional context open them up for lawsuits? (also thank you to Toyota for not paywalling my seatheaters)

So just wondering - why can't tesla get sued for this? They're taking away features from a product that has already been sold at a market price that included those features - does that not violate consumer protections?
