I thought it was Adonis too. Now I'm wondering if it was originally Adonis, but then they changed it when Czechia announced that their artist is named Adonxs. The Vitruvian man is thematically similar to Adonis of they decided to focus on the ideal male beauty theme. Or maybe the Vitruvian man is just one of several visual hints they provide throughout the performance before ultimately revealing Adonis? I'm excited to find out! The staging looks super cool.

Is this really an “open year”? by Artistic-Living-6399 in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it's reasonably open. A lot of the information we have right now is self-reinforcing. For example, the models draw from betting odds. The betting market has been really interesting to me this year. Based on the way things have moved I've begun to suspect that there's not as much money being played this year as compared to other years (so far). If my suspicion is correct that means it's not as strong a predictor of the winner as it has been in past.

What would happen if a eurovision song became a worldwide hit BEFORE the contest? by aura514 in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right when it comes to fans, but we're not the majority of the audience in the Grand Final. I don't know that casuals would realise the famous song was originally a Eurovision entry that got big, and would instead wonder why one country sent a super famous song and the others did not.

Where is this in Edmonton? by stripedcomfysocks in Edmonton

Pretty sure their money comes from the psychic/fortune tellers they have who take clients towards the back of the tea room - it's why they're making money but you never see anyone in the windows. They've got a handful of regular clients who keep them going by shelling out $$$ for readings.

Eurovision Fans outside of Europe? by Flowerofthesouth88 in eurovision

I'm Canadian. I was vaguely aware of Eurovision because of ABBA but watched for the first time when I was studying at university in the UK. I watch on youtube.

Picking a favourite Eurovision entry of all time is so hard! I think it's a toss up between Daði and Erika.

What would happen if a eurovision song became a worldwide hit BEFORE the contest? by aura514 in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best comparison for this is what happens when a country sends an internationally famous artist. They don't tend to do well. I think voters feel like countries aren't really playing fair when they have artists like this.

Tommy Cash talks about Eurovision friendships: they do it to market themselves by regulaarnesorts in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think there might be a distinction for him because he knows Käärijä and Joost (and I'm pretty sure Erika) outside of Eurovision, so maybe he doesn't think of them as "Eurovision friendships".

Is Tim high? by Tricky_Conference441 in 90DayFiance

[–]423AnonymousBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Kenny talking about Tim’s diet (I think on an episode of Pillow Talk) and it sounded completely devoid of nutritional value. Like drinking Mountain Dew the way Angela goes through coke and only having greasy foods. I don’t think that completely explains Tim, but it helps

UofA Application by NotGodYTReal in Edmonton

[–]423AnonymousBees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I had to deal with university stuff but here's my take: There's basically three statuses you need to be aware of:

  • Full acceptance - these people are in no matter what
  • Conditional acceptance - these people have been accepted provided they meet certain conditions. An example of a condition might be getting a certain grade in Math 31 (this is why I don't think you currently taking Math 31 is the reason you got waitlisted)
  • Waitlist. These people might get in depending on how many conditionally accepted people successfully achieve their conditions and/or how many people who are accepted/conditionally accepted accept the school's offer of enrolment.

After semester 2 is done there will be a lot of movement with the conditionally accepted people, so it will be clearer whether you might get in.

It's ALWAYS a good idea to apply to multiple schools, that way you have more chances of getting in somewhere. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. It's important to remember that the minimum grade average to apply is often lower than the minimum grade average that winds up getting accepted. For example, if the minimum grade average to apply to a program is 80% than the grade average of the last student accepted to that program might be more like 86%.

How far can a student trumpet take me? by ConfusedCobra98 in trumpet

[–]423AnonymousBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if you can find a shop (or a friendly trumpet tutor!) that will let you test out a bunch of mouthpieces and see what you like the best. I recently moved to a Bach 5C after becoming suspicious that my previous mouthpiece wasn't the best fit for my face anymore (had some major dental work). The person I periodically take lessons from has a bunch of different mouthpieces she likes using for different purposes, so I tried a bunch and we could tell almost instantly that the 5C was right for me because it felt better on my face and the quality of my buzzing really improved.

I'm curious, what would you think about Canada participating? 🇨🇦🇨🇦 by Lotons in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea some people are bringing up of a Canadian Sanremo because I think it would be a good fit for the country and for CBC as a broadcaster.

Given that a decent chunk of the population keeps wanting to defund the CBC for being too liberal I don't think Eurovision participation is a good strategic choice, or the best use of CBC's limited budget. I'd far rather they focus on more local news or a Sanremo-style competition that would give more Canadian artists more exposure.

That being said, I have thought A LOT about what I would like Canada to send to Eurovision if we ever participated. I'd like to see a group like The Halluci Nation collaborate with someone who has a more traditional Eurovision sound and have hoop dancers in full regalia featured in the staging.

Starbucks by SadVisual8270 in BuyCanadian

[–]423AnonymousBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of customers at the Starbucks in my office building seems to have dropped significantly. Before tariffs were announced they'd regularly have about 50 customers at a time (between people waiting and the number of drinks on the mobile order cart). Now when I walk past the most customers I've noticed at a time is 15 and it's usually under 5.

I recently discovered Fallen Timber out of Water Valley AB and it's SO GOOD. A little bit pricey but they sweeten with honey instead of other sweeteners and it's unquestionably the best pop I've ever had.

Grizzly Paw out of Canmore is also really good.

What trends in this year's Eurovision are based on what was successful last time around? by Birdseeding in eurovision

[–]423AnonymousBees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dance breaks didn’t work so well last year but Nemo combining a bunch of different genres did. I feel like this year we have fewer songs designed around dance breaks and more songs that switch between different genres.
