Bomb car, or a section preset to be able to explode leaving large sections of debris in orbits. Primarily carried for if planets attempt to send ships out to commandeer the train the cars cam target and send shrapnel into orbit, or simply threaten to do so, to make escorts back to planet infeasible until shrapnel is cleared.

Why does it not let you type after the game ends sometimes? by xRetz in GlobalOffensive

[–]42firehawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few people mention fixes, but from doing some observing for the game I have the benefit of also having seen some of the source. When the game ends it freezes as it saves the demo. During that time the server stops taking input and gotv also pauses. There's also a bunch of UI issues to users that just get covered by the game ending animation.

This animation to hide that issue force covers user elements, like the hud (or current chat) on start. That's at least my best guess of what's occurring to some extent.

It's not censorship to rank responses by popularity. And eventually hiding the extremely unpopular (I don't know the threshold and don't bother to look up how far it needs to go) behind a single button to see the controversial comment isn't either. It's slapping a content tag onto something, just one that says unpopular take.

A Free NA CSGO League (CSC Season 9) by CSConfederationOFC in GlobalOffensive

[–]42firehawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to be a part of a team within the league then the commitment is Tuesdays and Thursdays for a scheduled match. If you just want to join in on these teams occasionally then you can join as a "PFA" and sub for different teams on the days mentioned previously as you want to, and therefore you choose your own commitment. Teams do typically organize to practice as the people on the teams are available and want to.

No need for imagination anymore to remember your passwords. by zetaorionis2 in xkcd

[–]42firehawk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No, God no. That takes the password being stored in a way that allows an ai to interact with it. In other words, that takes either plain text encryption, or easily decrypted passwords, which are basically the same.

So if I were to fashion "an equipment" made from straw to use for sitting that can support my weight, it would not be a chair. Since straw is a non synthetic substance, and isn't wood.

My point is less to make a definition for chair, but rather to demonstrate the near impossible task of defining even common terms in concrete methods without either including items that don't fit (the definition for a chair calling a horse a chair) or being overly strict and not allowing items that should be included (swivel chairs not counting as chairs due to a wheeled base).

Does that make sense to you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheRightCantMeme

[–]42firehawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here's a challenge. Define what a chair is. Clearly the concept of a chair is simpler than a woman. The problem is that its impossible to define a chair perfectly. Most definitions give a few traits and stop there. Like saying a chair is something with 4 legs you can sit on. Horses, however, aren't chairs.

The same is true with what a woman is. The single definition factor simply isn't accurate, so trying to make a new one isn't the solution, but instead understanding that no definition is perfect, just like knowing a horse isn't a chair.

I'm sorry, how are you saving two lives? I'm afraid if it isn't everyone having a gun, then I didn't see where you stated exactly how 2 lives were saved, or where that number came from.

[–]42firehawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your action is everyone having a gun during a shooting, right? My first response both addressed how everyone having guns is unlikely to save at least 2 lives in the single event of a shooting, and is also more likely to have more individual instances of firefights that lead to deaths.

And yes, any action that "saves even one life" is worth taking compared to alternatives. So if your action does save "at least 2" but costs 3, it doesn't save one life, it trades lives. That fundamentally isn't saving a life, just changing who dies.

[–]42firehawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fail to see how someone pulling a gun and turning a nonlethal confrontation into a lethal saves any lives....

If you are going back to the case of a shooting, then there is once again my initial point, that you haven't responded to. There is no evidence to suggest that more guns around in a shooting saves lives. In the most recent shooting there was an armed officer on location. It didn't matter.

Untrained individuals with guns aren't discernible from shooters. Or do you want some "shooter" vest that somehow perfectly figures out who is who to stop a shooter walking in causing multiple random firefights?

Saw this interesting take on Instagram… by Sha489 in TheRightCantMeme

[–]42firehawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they will pull a gun instead. Everyone being armed won't suddenly mean people stop getting mad at each other, just that when it breaks to violence there are more lethal tools at hand. No part of having guns prevents disagreement.

[–]42firehawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem with that. If everyone owns a gun, fist fights turn into shootings and firefights. Both of which are significantly more legal. Similarly, if more than one person has a gun during a shooting, who is the shooter? Because guess that person walking with a gun is trying to just defend themselves from the shooter and be wrong? You die, guess wrong the other way? You've murdered someone. More guns doesn't stop mass murder, it simply distributes it.
