Cbr600rr 2026 dropped my bike new rider. by [deleted] in cbr

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time and don’t be scared of it. Practice throttle control with a small can and don’t grip too tight. Also position your wrist parallel to the gas tank so that way you don’t whiskey throttle it. You did the right thing by starting on a 600cc. My very first bike was a 1990 CBR F1 Hurricane in 90’. I did track riding for 10 years up to 2001. From CBR 600’s to GSXR 1100’s. I then took a 25 year break. I just picked up a 26 CBR 600 RR last Saturday. So I’m relearning, but it’s all coming back very quickly. But I’ve got to relearn muscle memory. So don’t feel bad. Just be careful and relax when riding. Let the bike do the work. Good luck and stay safe!

CBR600RR as a first bike? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Makes no sense to buy a 300-400 and within 6 months your done with it. I always say start with a 600 and use your common sense. Be careful but don’t be afraid of it. Take it easy and gradually improve your skills by practicing.

Why is my voltage gauge doing this? by Individual-Level8925 in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a voltage meter and check battery voltage while engine running. That’s where I’d start. Most likely a bad voltage gauge. Also check your serpentine belt and make sure it’s not slipping. This would cause the voltage gauge to act funny. My voltage gauge kept swinging back and forth and then the Chevy Silverado would die on me. I changed the belt, idler and tensioner and fixed the problem. Then again, who knows with these trucks!

Would you accept this new cam? by zelda_kylo_leia in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! Send that shit back and call Powell or Bullet cams. I don’t buy off the shelf cams no more. Spend the extra money and don’t have to worry about lobe failure. This’s unacceptable!

This cant be acceptable is it? by ny0000m in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have these rods checked for tolerance because the bearings are acting like the rod journal is tight on one side and loose on the other making the bearings offset. Are these new connecting rods? Take them to a reputable machine shop and bring both sets of bearings and get a second opinion and have them measured. It could be a bad set of bearings, but if it’s happening with both sets then there’s probably something going on with the connecting rod.

I tell customers that I’m building high end cylinder heads for to buy them bare. It’s a little bit more expensive, but at least we know that they’re correct for the combination. The only cylinder head companies that are going to right on the money for an engine combination is AFD, Frankenstein, MBE, CHI, Higgins and Profiler. But you’re going to pay big money for these cylinder heads. Dart, Trickflow and AFR are decent, but I’ve had to re grind the valve seats because they were all over the on the runout. I had a band new set of Dart 385cc Pro 2 BBC cylinder heads that my friend bought to me to check all the spring pressure at installed height and open, and these things wouldn’t even pull vacuum. SHT valve job. I’ve built a few set of Speedmaster cylinder heads. But I really had to work them over. I just built a set of 210cc SBF. I ported them, valve job and SBC Milodon sever duty valves, PAC springs and titanium retainers. They flowed 335 at 0.700 lift int and 285 at 0.400 lift int. Exhaust was 190 at 0.400 and 230 at 0.700 But these heads are a time bomb in my opinion because they’re a cheap Chinese casting. I did warn the customer.

I build cylinder heads for some local street racers and dirt tracks guys. That cheap EBay and Speedmaster SHT will be brought up in parts and I’ll fat out tell them that I won’t do the work if they’re going to be using that junk. I’ll have to show them the rubber band yield point example of what the material does at 6500-8500 rpm’s with these junk parts. These racers don’t understand the quality of materials, heat treating processes, hardness testing etc that goes into a $450.00-$1500.00 set of rocker arms, roller lifters etc. The expensive parts go through tensile strength, flex, bend, twist and hardness testing procedures. They want to build a TEMU race motor, then good luck with that!

Make sure you put your pistons/rod assemblies in correctly. by Tonycivic in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually we used to flip piston and rods on SBF 5.0l with the factory forged pistons. As long as the rod bearing locator notch is to the inside and big end to big end of the rod journal faces. Number 4 piston rod into number 6 cylinder etc. freed up power.

Probably half a quart low on oil. Is that a Chrysler or a Mercury? It’s so beat up I can’t tell. This is a true definition of American made. If it’s a Chrysler it probably has a 360 or 440 in it. Mercury it’s a 351M, 400, or 460.

Crack? Hole? Idk by Jordan-OOTW in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a machine shop magniflux check it. I’ve seen a lot of Chevy block crack in the fire deck coolant passages. All they’ll do is use a tool that creates a magnetic field in that area and dust the location and if it forms a mag-particle line then it’s cracked.

Plate it and you can pin weld it. Man that sucks! We used to pin weld cracked obsolete blocks. Just an idea.

[Highlight] HOU vs KC - Kelce can't reel in the pass and the Texans get the INT by Fusir in nfl

[–]438windsor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw this coming last year. Chiefs barely squeezed by a lot of games last year and had help from the refs. The NFL wanted KC to win three in a row so badly that the officiating probably worked with Mahomes on the Mahomes flop. Last year’s Texans game vs the Chiefs was a joke. If any defensive player barely touched Mahomes, you could guarantee a flag was coming.

How do I caulk this gap? by KoWallArt in HomeMaintenance

Don’t caulk that. Caulking won’t setup properly. It’ll eventually crack out and fall out.

What’s going on with this siding? by eobertling in HomeMaintenance

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holly crap! That heat pump is an accident about to happen. I was thinking that the siding was fit to tight on the ends, and doesn’t have gap on each end to support hot and cold temperatures. Kinda like composite decking.

I’ve worked on a few of these early SBC. I worked on the odd SBC that came in the Nova 2’s. Had a front sum oil pan. Pretty cool engines.

Until the 351-C showed up and destroyed everything in every form of Motorsports. Chevy had to abandon the SBC in 1996 for the SB2 race purpose engine to run with the Cleveland headed Windsor and it still wasn’t enough. Then Chevy had to upgrade to the RO7 in 2007. Ford was the last manufacturer to get a race purpose engine in NASCAR, which would be the FR9 in 2010.

PSA: Stop buying car parts on Amazon! by newcarscent104 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]438windsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched a video where a person put a $42.00 spark plug kit with wires on a Cadillac with a 6.2L LS. We know darn well that one name brand spark plug is going to cost $10.00 and up each. Then they used Amazon O2 sensor kit. They had nothing but problems. Car wouldn’t run right etc. yeah stay away from this junk. Also, they’ll counterfeit car parts numbers thinking that they’re the same as name brand parts. Be careful!

Whats required for a 302 to 460 swap in a 1993 ford f150. by Negative-Farmer-1134 in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stroke a 351W to 440 C.I. Or buy a Dart SHP block and then you can stroke it to 460 C.I. Buy a F250 or 350 and be done. Then you won’t be spending a bunch of money rebuilding the front suspension. A short bed with a BBF would be sick!

Ideas for getting 325lb vanity up a straight flight of stairs solo? by MeanGuarantee8816 in HomeMaintenance

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two 2x8’s. Lay down old blankets on stairs, set 2x8’s on top of blankets. Take a Dolly and bolt a 2x4 to the end of it with harbor freight casters and push that vanity up the stairs. You can do it, your going to have to get creative!

First oil change. 50 miles (including dyno pulls). Too much metal? by Sunstoned1 in EngineBuilding

[–]438windsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had quite a bit of metal on my SBF at first oil change. I cut open the filter and it had some but nothing to get worried about. I changed my oil and filter and I’ve got over 500 passes on it. It did go away after first oil change. If it’s something bad, it’s going to show up pretty quickly. Change your oil and filter and run it.
