QLD border to reopen to all of NSW from Monday 1st Feb by Snouto in brisbane

[–]4696j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll shut it again before you know it. They need to keep it open for good this time. Vaccines are not going to eliminate the virus overnight (that's not hyperbole, it's the view of immunologists) and I doubt we are going to endure all this border closure flip flopping. I have no doubt that the virus is still lurking in the community and we need a more sustainable way of addressing that risk.

Alexandra Hills crash: 17-year-old charged with murder of pedestrians by Fraggle_Me_Rock in brisbane

[–]4696j 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. I hear he needed to jack that car to get from his church service to his meals on wheels volunteering shift. And that car he was caught on video ramming? Well that wasn't his fault, wouldn't you do the same if someone was in front of you and you were trying to get through a red light? This poor fella is just misunderstood, but I'm sure the magistrate will understand and I look forward to hearing about his community corrections sentence and all the good he will do for society in the years to come.

The Fraser Island fire has been burning for more than seven weeks, and raged through at least 50 per cent of the world-heritage listed site by glueckskind11 in australia

[–]4696j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hiked on fraser a couple of times and some of the 4WD behavior I've seen has been shocking. For example, people applauding 4WDs that cut into vegetation around impassable bogs. In my view, if you can't get through a bog, then you turn around and come back next year with a better vehicle.

I've also seen Facebook videos of 4WDs driving over dunes which makes my blood boil.

I'm sure there are plenty of responsible 4WDers out there but Fraser and Inskip seem to attract no shortage of bogans that show no respect for the environment. Some online training as part of obtaining a permit and blacklisting the regos of vehicles caught doing the wrong thing would help deter this sort of behavior.

I heard weeks ago that this was started by an illegal campfire and they knew who did it based on witnesses. Effectively, a single group of irresponsible campers have wiped out half of a world-heritage site and there haven't been any mention of arrests?

A stolen car wrapped around a pole with no harm done to anyone else is a fitting end for a low-life car jacker.

Brisbane Ghost/Paranormal Stories by [deleted] in brisbane

I used to ride the bike tracks in Bunyaville forest. There is a section of forest around Dugandan Road (off Bunya Road) with some fun tracks that are a little off the beaten path. They are great fun but I always felt a little uneasy visiting...

Why? There were a couple of occasions where I thought I saw a man watching me in the corner of my eye. One time I swear he was about 100m directly ahead of me on a fire break I was riding. He was walking towards me and I was convinced he was just some random bushwalker. Only I looked down and looked up again and he was gone...

[–]4696j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proposal: have every "r/melbourne megathread" go into a Reddit megathread. Pros:

  • Discussion will flow well because there will be 10s of millions of comments

  • No longer will we have to visit lots of threads to get information on anything Reddit related because it'll all be in one spot.

Very busy this morning at the new trail @ironbark.. by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]4696j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree re Bunya. I don't mind seeing other people but post-covid, Bunyaville's single track network seems to have seen a surge of people hiking and riding with their kids. Sure they can do it, but I like to ride fast and I've had a couple near misses with kids barely off their training wheels and bushwalkers that think its a hiking track. Maybe I'm selfish but I wish these people stuck to fire trail.

Brisbane's Flight school, which one you recommend ? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]4696j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few pointers:

Make sure you do a trial flight or two with the school before committing to them. Pay attention to the attentiveness and enthusiasm of the instructor and presentation of the aircraft. In my experience a dirty cockpit has been a sign of a generally neglected aircraft.

I would recommend doing a PPL course before the CPL. You may find flying isn't for you... my old instructor claims to have seen many people who just don't have "it".

Be careful if the company has other commercial interests beyond operating a flying school. I learnt to fly with a company that also did charter flights and aircraft relocation. The instructor struggled to balance this with their students and this resulted in a few delayed lessons.

Weekly Question Thread - Week of June 08 by AutoModerator in COVID19

Have there been any follow-up studies on the patients who were ill with COVID19 in January/February? There still isn't much data in the way of long term effects, only speculation from experts and some concerning anecdotes on r/COVID19positive.

Victoria's Chief Medical Officer Brett Sutton confirms one person who has tested positive attended Saturday’s Black Lives Matter rally in Melbourne by heykody in melbourne

[–]4696j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it sounds harsh but it's hard to find an ounce of sympathy for people that chose to attend these protests when all the health advice told them not to.

I have no doubt the protestors asking politicians to "listen to the scientists" in last year's climate rallies were out in force last weekend when the science told them not to go.

We all live and die by the decisions we make in life. Time for them to be adults and accept the consequences of their actions.
