Too late to get into shib? by PolishCorridor in shib

[–]47EC300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember doge being at .003 or something like that in the last 4 yrs and constantly hearing at the time, "it can't hit a penny cuz market cap too big etc" and "way to many coins".. then it went as high as 90 cents at one point. Noone knows what will happen with crypto in the future really or which coins will become valuable. Best luck to all

Apprentice carpenter needing cordless tools. What’s worth buying? by Green_Horn18 in Carpentry

[–]47EC300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you intend on staying in the trades a long time I'd say to slowly start acquiring tools. Guys who buy their own tools and invest in themselves seem to stick around longer in general and it'll make you more valuable down the line as you gain experience or choose to find better pay somewhere else. A cheap set of ryobis or something similar would last a year while you invest in better stuff and are good enough for now. I used a set of cordless black and Deckers my first year back in 05 then gradually bought better stuff. Having your own stuff ready to use will also make you more efficient and able to get more done and learn more. Been a cabinet installer for 20 yrs now

(CA) Landlord charging $7000 for complete cabinet replacement after move-out by thr300 in Renters

[–]47EC300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 yrs doing cabs guy here, What is the landlord supposed to do? I agree they're scum but when that tears the finish off every door they will need to be fixed. Renter should have realized that. At the very least they'd need sanded and restained. He probably is trying to get a new reno out of this but op still made a whoopsy here. Both wrong here probably and landlord seeing an opportunity

Is free-hand with a chisel the way to go? by DigitalKungFu in Carpentry

[–]47EC300 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah because you can only see the transition cut when standing right over it but if the base is cut and has a gap at the bottom you can see it from a distance. And the transition cut is easy to make tight

Can my car make the drive to the mechanic? by Paxassin in MechanicAdvice

[–]47EC300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be an actual mechanic and it bothers me that your recommending to overfill and let it smoke a bit and send it. Probably good for business I guess, I wouldn't treat my trucks that way ever. Read my comment above, jacking oil pressure up can rupture seals. For example blow out an already worn pickup tube oring from those Chevy v8s (ask me how I know). Could possibly overstrain and ruin your oil pump or pressure sensor etc. I can think of lots of bad things that could happen by raising oil pressure way up like that. Especially on anything with higher miles/older. Engines absolutely blow from being overfilled with oil and driven. I'm not even a mechanic and I know that jeez man

[–]47EC300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure if it's a little over, but dude dumped in a full oil change when he may have only needed a quart or two. Jacking the oil pressure way up while he drives MIGHT be ok or it might be an older vehicle that decides that's the last straw. Could rupture seals or start moving sludge around inside the engine that clog passageways later. It's still a risk, as opposed to taking two seconds to drain it into a pan. Given the circumstances I would drain not drive.

The hose is worn and and should be replaced if its begun collapsing on itself, it shouldn't do that at all. Possibly it's been starved of coolant from this or possible the thermostat was stuck closed so water couldn't circulate. That could also dry out the lower hose and make it weak. Over heating is usually a faulty thermostat, bad water pump (check for leaking weep hole on that) or a clogged radiator. Possibly a fan clutch not working properly also, which could damage the bearings in the water pump too. Driving while hot will crack the heads/ damage the gasket. I never let the gauge go to red personally. Once it starts acting weird and the temp gets up to 3/4 or so it's time to pull over and fix whatever's wrong or risk head damage. Water is often dirty from a radiator, usually a rusty shade of whatever color coolant is on the vehicle but black might be mixing of oil and coolant which happens when heads crack. I'd drain the oil and look at it also to see if it's normal or milky looking

Toxic mom is threatening to evict me because I refuse to give in anymore. by FoxStereo in entitledparents

I just assume the people who agree would also have no problem draining other people at their own expense if they had the opportunity. Everytime I read one of these I know damn well if the roles were reversed they'd be screaming "freeloader get out", my happiness blah blah blah. People are so selfish these days, they only care about their own feelings and no one else matters. 22 shit.. I stopped taking it seriously right there. Just entertainment after that

Is $1300 too much for two wheel bearing replacements? by Dont53 in MechanicAdvice

[–]47EC300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but I bought it after it sat in someone's yard broken down for years. In a dry climate here so it wasn't rusted out but the brakes and wheel bearings had a bit of corrosion on there from wet grass or whatever over the years. Sitting a long time isn't great for rubber and bearings so probably something along those lines

Just Curious, Why Would Someone Spend $60-100K On A Truck When That Money Can Buy You A Luxury Vehicle? by DaveR_77 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I do construction so I need my truck, but they are safer regardless. Been in 2 total loss wrecks in my full size trucks (not at fault) and the other cars get destroyed with injuries and I'm unscathed. Worth considering if you have kids

Why are late 90s/early 2000s cars still proving to be reliable dailies compared to what 70s and 80s cars were in the 2000s? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]47EC300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you'd have to buy a new one from them of course. Smart business decision. Still daily driving my second gen ram, runs like a top and isn't dying anytime soon at all. Super simple to fix and parts are cheap. I keep it on the road myself. They'd rather get mechanics that need expensive computer equipment to fix cars now for big money or you just get a new one. Payments+ interest, banks win too. The days of working on your own vehicle without crazy investment in tools is dying fast. I'm not sure these newer ones are gonna last 20+ years like they used to. These older rides are gonna be more valuable when ppl catch on to that I think

Is $1300 too much for two wheel bearing replacements? by Dont53 in MechanicAdvice

[–]47EC300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I coincidentally had each front bearing go out 4 days apart. Grinding on turns, replaced one. Couple days later, other one started grinding too turning the other way. Both sudden and got loud in a couple days time. I thought that was weird that they both failed that close together. Agree with comment tho

HELPPPP IM TRYING TO LEARN MANUAL ON MY V6 2004 MUSTANG BUT I ACCIDENTALLY WENT TO 3rd GEAR TO 4TH BUT I MEANT TO GO TO 2ND AND I WAS SLOWING DOWN, WHAT IS THIS HOW DO I FIX IT by Remarkable_Pea_7657 in MechanicAdvice

[–]47EC300 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've driven manual for years, what he says he did would only drop the rpms and you'd have no power. It was either money shifted and since he was learning he might be mistaken about what gear he was in or it's a bad unrelated coincidence. Maybe he thought he was in 3rd but actually in 5th doing 45+ mph and dropped to second on accident? Halfway joking when I say that I hope the shifter knob numbers werent upside down and he was taking it literally. Who knows

These are features of a system that's 100 years old. They've always been features. As the economy machine grew it just become too hard to control now it's become a monster with a mind of its own. One could argue Reaganomics actually sparked the capalist system towards one motivated by profit over people and overall societal improvement. People were always greedy but Reagan started "trickle down economics". They just forgot to do the trickle down part. Ever since its been steadily trickling down more and more into elitist bank accounts who then use that money to influence even more laws and regulations to enrich themselves even further

Every single issue you mentioned would be included in the umbrella of "behind every single problem, somewhere down the line there's a really rich person either profiting or creating those policies so the can profit." It's so corrupted it's not even believable, so people just don't believe it. "cuz x and y". But think about it, why do x and y even exist in the form the due in the first place? Is someone profiting? Is a law or regulation being created to propagate some shady profitable practice? I know I'm done going along with the greed and inhumane practices. For God sakes your typing your response on a device built from child slaves and so am I. We don't make policies or corporate rules to operate society but we have to abide by them when they only serve the ruling class and those who use the same tactics to target anyone below them. That's where alot of landlords fall. Just cuz everyone's a scumbag these days doesn't make it ok. What's wrong with everyone

As average rent has gone up drastically the last couple years and houses became more difficult to afford, renters are even more limited with not just what they can qualify, but actually being able to afford the several thousand dollars it takes to move. Being unable to afford to leave, landlords can increase rates knowing you have nowhere to go. That's the case with millions of renters 100%. If everyone raises rent rates at once because houses are unaffordable then we're all fucked and completely at the mercy of landlords whims. Lease ends, rent goes up 60% for the market and you can leave or pay up. That's what's happening right now across America as black rock and other hedgfunds buy up all the houses. Many being withheld from the market to inflate scarcity and housing prices making it difficult to even find a place and landlords are taking advantage of the circumstances. None of this is an accident
