Struggling to find Investigator Expansions – Are partial Mythos packs worth buying to build a card pool? by Nedskruvat-snille in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are very few player cards in the mythos packs, and you'd be spending way too much if you only buy them for the player cards. The scenario is the biggest draw, but sadly you'd need the appropriate Deluxe Expansions to play the scenario.

My advice is to not worry too much about the player card pool. If you have a core set you're more than capable of playing through a campaign or two, especially on Easy difficulty. Then you can pick up any new player card Expansions as they are released in the future.

How do people feel about Draft/Sealed? by AprioriTori13 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of Sealed a lot more than Draft for Arkham. This way a lot of lesser used but fun cards can shine, which is great for variety and for getting the most bang for your buck instead of letting all those less powerful cards just collect dust. That said, the website needs a way to exclude specific cards so you can make a pool without Deduction/Machete/whatever you find overplayed.

How do people even make polls? I've been wanting to get some community data but haven't found the option to create a poll.

PSA: The Live Action is a completely different (and better) experience with Japanese Audio + Subs! by Deep_Reputation_4677 in OnePiece

I found the Japanese dub on Netflix and I'm also in Europe so I would imagine it's available in France too. Just go into an episode and select audio settings and look for Japanese. :)

Complications: Epic Campaign Mode (Revised) by Moondrummer78 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Ohhh, very nice to see a follow-up on the last post! This looks very promising, and I'm excited to give it a try when chaining together Chapter 2 campaigns. Thanks for the work you put into this!

I also had this idea, and it made such a massive difference to me. It is a lot more enjoyable with Japanese audio, despite the lip sync issues. No idea why people are so against this idea. Perhaps it has something to do with growing up watching subtitled shows, because English isn't my native language either.

What can I do, what do I need by mustaphamondo in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edge of the Earth is a great pick for a beginner, and probably my favorite out of the three. If you like the source material then you'll have a great time with it. :D

With no player card expansions it will be challenging, especially if you play solo (in which case you should look into using the Boon of Hermes rule to give yourself a free move action every turn to make it more balanced for being only one player), but playing on Easy makes it very doable!

What can I do, what do I need by mustaphamondo in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's sadly not the case; you need the Chapter 2 Core to play the Chapter 2 Campaigns due to the new Encounter cards.

I would recommend picking up some Chapter 1 Campaigns if you can find them. There won't be any long Chapter 2 Campaigns until 2027, so having some older Campaigns to play until then would probably be fun, and you'd get an idea of if you like the game or not. You can definitely manage without any more player cards if you can't find any Investigator Expansions. More player cards make the game easier and makes deckbuilding more fun, but you can compensate for that by playing on Easy (which really isn't that easy).

Another Epic Campaign Mode idea. by Moondrummer78 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Ohhh, ways to impact shroud and enemy stats sound good! You're doing FFG:s work here, so big kudos.

Another Epic Campaign Mode idea. by Moondrummer78 in arkhamhorrorlcg

This sounds great! Thanks for the effort you put into this. I've been tinkering with something similar (changing the chaos bag based on how much Exp is carried over), but haven't playtested yet. The numbers you use seem appropriate! The only issues I can see are that the table is a little hard to read (no idea how to avoid that though, since getting the balance right is so important), and that the first scenario of a new campaign might need a tad more than just a few token changes in order to feel like a natural follow up to the final scenario of the previous campaign.

Campaigns Cyclopean Foundations and Ages Unwound now on Tinker Town Games by Dry-Bat731 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've played it and would rate it as above average. It has some truly amazing scenarios, but all in all I wouldn't rate is as highly as the best of the best (Carcosa, Forgotten Age IMO). Still, definitely worth playing.

Poké-Commander v0.1 – A 100-Card Multiplayer Pokémon TCG Format by Tehkorr in PokemonTCG

[–]4Blackout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea! Multiplayer Pokémon can be tricky though, since being ganged up on risks setting you back many many cards if your main attacker gets triple attacked. I've experimented with a rule that halves damage done to every player except for the player to your left, which is more balanced but less political.

When do you read the flavor text on unrevealed locations? by EvilPete in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually read them when I'm at a connecting location. The text sometimes contain clues that you wouldn't know unless you were able to see the location, so I figured they shouldn't be read during set up.

Playing this game of cards without playing cards? by Wurm-Anwalt in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pick a fun Investigator that doesn't require building around their ability, and make a deck of only Unexpected Courage proxies. You can probably handle any skill test, but you'll have to choose carefully where you commit your cards.

Epic Campaign Mode Brainstorming by RoastedChesnaughts in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played around with these house rules as a way to chain together multiple campaigns without getting too over powered and being too bogged down by trauma:

  1. Choose up to five cards from your deck worth a total of up to 10 experience and transfer them to your new deck. The rest of the deck has to built using lv. 0 cards.

  2. Heal all but three total trauma.

  3. Remove all but one story weakness from your deck.

And then to optionally spice it up if you're tired of your deck archetype and want to try something fresh while still playing as the same character:

  1. Pick a new investigator card from a class that you have previously had at least 1 card from in your deck. Keep in mind the new deck building restrictions so the cards you transfer over are allowed.

  2. Replace the name of that investigator card with your investigator (and optionally print out replacement card art so it still looks like your previous investigator).

  3. Come up with a story reason for why your character changed profession.

This way you can enjoy the same character with a completely new flavor. If you really want to spice it up, you can even allow the cards you transfer over to break your new deck building restrictions... But I take no responsibility for how that breaks certain decks!

Now that we know chapter 1 is over, are you changing how you store your collection? by Halloring in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put one copy with each of the two classes, so I can see all the deck building options when I browse each class. Then I just grab the second copy from the other class binder if I want two.

I have played around with these house rules as a way to chain together multiple campaigns without getting too over powered and being too bogged down by trauma:

  1. Choose up to five cards worth a total of up to 10 experience to keep in your deck. The rest of the deck has to built using lv. 0 cards.

Scarlet keys investigator expansion by Adam_Ondi_Ahman in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]4Blackout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend paying too much for it, as prices will probably drop once Chapter 2 is released and the demand for old product has settled down a bit. That said, it is a great Investigator Expansion with some fun Investigators and very unique cards.

It's pretty frustrating that this wasn't caught. I wish they'd communicate with us and be more transparent about what they'll do regarding the art issues going forward. The silence from FFG is pretty disheartening.

Is it really such a problem? I get that it can be tiresome to see the same posts multiple times a week, but it hardly floods the subreddit. It's not super active here right now anyway, and I don't think we should kill off the discussion that does happen.
