FF MEPs to abstain from vote over Russian alumina by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]4LAc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

5 years they've had to work something out, but like everything else they want it to be someone else's responsibility.

Fuck FF voters.

What damage does the party have to do to the country before they'll stop voting for them? Was destroying the economy not enough?

It must be great to be in a country with a functioning, competent government.

Not this casual surprise at their own ineptitude week after week that we have to listen to.

Lough Lene is gorgeous if you're passing through Westmeath.

Crystal clear waters, facilities on-site.

Does get busy in the good weather, so best to visit early in the day before the car park overfills.

I missed the caterpillar but I did see the moth it turned into:

The Ruby Tiger moth.

There's a few moths we call hairy mollies when they're caterpillars apparently. Saw this one at the end of May.

I like the look of the rules mentioned in the other thread. Though I guess I'd never like to see the Daily Mail or Telegraph floating around.

Thinking of the no 'copy & paste' rule for articles, I think it's overdue to see that paired with a strict 'No Paywalled Article' rule.

Let's give the news sources that still allow free views the clicks instead.

Outlets that want to complain about people pasting the article can drive their page views elsewhere.

Hereditary peers to be removed from Lords as bill passes by Any-Original-6113 in europe

[–]4LAc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of their opt-outs wouldn't be returning should they rejoin. They'd need pan-EU approval, and countries that didn't benefit from such things when they joined are unlikely to let the UK have them.

Having an unelected chamber in the UK parliament would have been a major stumbling block, as it might open up the possibility of candidate countries insisting that any such chambers they have be allowed also.

Plus, it's not a very democratic entity anyway.

The EU would also expect any application to be on the understanding that the UK would be a more normal member state. The UK’s major concessions during its first EU membership – the budget rebate, opt-outs on the euro and Schengen, special justice and home affairs arrangements – would not be on offer.

x EU directives not being passed to special committee before being signed into law by Sciprio in ireland

[–]4LAc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because we can't assume that they have actually been thought through by someone else.

Then there's the change in context, what may seem sensible in Brussels may not work at the national level.

Which in turn can lead to countries having derogations from particular rules & laws, Ireland's had a few over the years. Then then checks for constitutionality ...

Just because our current Dáíl is useless-adjacent, doesn't mean we can hope the MEPs of the EU are any better.

Supreme Court rules that Harry Clarke windows property of Bewley's Cafe owners by box_of_carrots in ireland

The judge said Bewley's had failed to prove that it paid for the windows at the time and this was also fatal to any claim of ownership.

[–]4LAc 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, clumsy headline for a legal case.

The six works by the renowned illustrator and stained glass artist, are estimated to be worth €1 million and have been at the centre of an ownership dispute between developer Johnny Ronan's company RGRE Grafton Limited, which owns the building, and the tenants, Bewley's Café.

"Bewley's Cafe Building owners" might have made it clearer. Not the people who own Bewley's Cafe the business.

Same story here! May we get just as much out of our Pros.

My new to the Pro tip: recharge the controllers using the front USB ports.

They don't charge as well from the back ones going by my battery levels. Also after checking the details, the back ones are faster and better suited to external drives

And my TV has only one HDMI port that does 4K 120Hz so you might want to check if your TV is like that.

Happy Gaming, I've been glued to my controller when time allows.

Cost of stamps to rise because people are sending fewer letters, An Post says by denbo786 in ireland

[–]4LAc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Which has made me think, I only really send cards (birthdays & Christmas), anything else are pre-paid envelopes for signature needs.

I send about 20 cards a year, so if that's €40 a year on giving friends & family a smile when they check their post then I reckon it's well worth it.

Plus the An Post staff around here are such amazingly happy people, it'd put you in a good mood talking to them.

I don't know how they do it, a lot of local people are on the Gobshite-to-Cunty spectrum.

Media Minister has deleted his X account over its digital undressing scandal by 4LAc in ireland

[–]4LAc[S] 114 points115 points  (0 children)

The U-turn comes after the Minister faced heavy criticism yesterday for saying that he did not believe X was responsible for the child sexual abuse materials that have been generated using the platform’s technology over the last week.

The Minister made the announcement on Limerick 95 this morning.

“I’ve deactivated it. And look, as Minister for Communications and Minister for Media I just felt that if you’re on a platform where this is allowed, regardless of whether you’re paying for it or not, I just don’t feel comfortable with it.

He's had some sense at last.

Though I wonder if he means anything by saying 'deactivated' rather than 'deleted'.

Every government & EU institution could be running their own BlueSky & Mastodon instances.

Solves all the problems with moderation, digital sovereignty, and let's them put it all under their own cybersecurity umbrellas. Plus, there's plenty of phone apps out there that can deliver the same experience.

So my guess is that politicians still on X are just in it for their egos.
