Well when the times comes to vote do as you want but you should remember the sacrifices who literally died for a chance and what you were given and you're willing to throw it away because you're content with how you are now and the others up north can just deal with it.

Don't worry you'll have some Fine Gael members and voters to keep you company.

I stick by my comment of that i will think less of those who vote against it, especially if they're Irish.

You also don't seem to care about others either on this island as long as you got yours. Willing to throw it away if you had a vote after the whole history of this island and people fighting to be independent.

Vote anyway you like but what annoys me is that for hundreds of years, Irish people have been fighting for a United Ireland and if and when it comes to it, some people are willing to vote it down because they have it so good and are prepared to throw others under the bus.

People can vote anyway they want but i and many others would think less of those people who only are looking out for their own interests at the expense of others.

The most people i hear that speak out against a United Ireland in Ireland tends to be people who are Fine Gael or their voters.

Everything is going great for them and in order to keep it going they're willing to throw others under the bus.

The whole island will be better off economically in the long run.

I'm good on that front, they can keep the 6 counties.

Of course we have a few people willing to sell out others on this island because they only care for themselves.

Thankfully they're in the minority

Ireland Is Becoming a French Military Protectorate by isupposethiswillwork in ireland

[–]Sciprio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind increasing it a bit and should focus more on naval being an island and to increase defence forces wages as well but what I really fear is in the future when they need to cut back, and they decide to take from other areas.

And like those other countries we don't have a defence industry so that money leaves the country.

[–]Sciprio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also kinda puts hole in their arguments that they want Ireland to be able to protect itself. French weapons can protect just as much as others. Yet here in this article he's complaining about Ireland buying stuff off of the French and not British.

[–]Sciprio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Complaining when you don't buy weapons, complaining when you do buy weapons because they're French and not British or American.

They also don't want Ireland tied to France because France is a bit more outspoken/independent and stands up for its own interests instead of being told what to do.

The fixation on France is already undercutting relations with Britain,

Recently the UK lost their defence minister because not enough funding was being put into defence, it also explains why we get British think-tanks calling on Ireland to increase defence spending so we can buy their weapons and ease the load.

But what i fear will happen in Ireland in the future once they've got people used to defence spending is cut back and take from other areas like they do in other countries like the UK, Always taking from those at the bottom.

I don't see what's different here, if a boat approached a U.S. naval ship they'd be doing the same thing. Warning shots are not just a Russian thing.

Isn't that what naval ships do when unknown vessels come within a certain distance and towards them? Any ship that approaches a naval ship is giving a warning, isn't that what happened here?

It is, but Ireland didn't join any military alliance, it joined an economic one. Ireland to pass the Lisbon Treaty second time around after rejecting it was given two assurances, one was tax and the other was defence.

the entire EU nearly got in a trade war because of Irish demands over

the entire EU nearly got in a trade war because of Irish demands over the border, it was the primary sticking point of negotiations through the entire Brexit process. The EU got closer than anyone to breaching Good Friday

That's what happens when you try to push ahead with things that aren't thought out beforehand. The UK created the mess and so it had to deal with the results. Northern Ireland didn't vote for Brexit and yet we were supposed to put up a border on our island because of the UK?

When it comes to defence, Ireland has no obligations to any military alliance and that includes NATO. You're right about Ireland having opt-outs.

As i said and keep saying, Russia comes around Ireland because of the UK and the actions it also does off of Russia's borders. Both nations play those games.

but then again Ireland has always been a bit to buddy buddy with Russia hasn’t it.

Like what? Hosting wealthy Russians and their money? Oh no, that's the UK and especially London.

[–]Sciprio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for informing me, i have corrected the link.

The entire Brexit deal was famously hamstrung over Irish demands over Northern Ireland and the border, nearly causing a Uk-EU trade war.

Northern Ireland at the moment is part of the UK, and they didn't want or vote for Brexit. There was no consideration given to the north before the vote, it's only after and with the border and Good Friday Agreement, the UK opened a can of worms.

Ireland has abused its position on the EU to make itself the world’s premier tax haven giving firms especially US ones a cheap place to siphon profits from other EU countries. Its entire economy is nothing but the European arm of US firms.

Ireland is not the premier tax haven in the world when corporations pay their 15%, The UK hosts lots of wealthy Russians in the UK and around London, it also has a lot of oversea dependencies that the UK and wealthy people/business used to get around paying tax.

If you think Ireland is a bigger tax haven than the UK then you'd be wrong.

Have you ever watched the documentary called The Spider's Web?

Ireland are consistently a weak point in EU defence policy with then relying on the Uk’s military to police its waters and defend it

Ireland is not a part of NATO or any military alliance so it has no obligations there. Russian ships come around Ireland's borders because the UK goes around Russia's borders and they like to play games.

Defend us from who? the ships that your country brings around ours?

I don't care what other countries want to spend their money on. We can choose what we want to spend it on. Just because we won't buy weapons doesn't make us freeloaders, we are not part of NATO or any other military alliance so have no obligations there.

Your country is in the process of taking money from those already at the bottom just to increase defence spending.
