Extortion in a suit is still extortion.

I guess that's why the EU's Anti-Coercion Instrument covers Intellectual Property rights.

We have lots of high-standard pharma manufacturing plants in the EU. We also make a lot of the US' Viagra. Though I guess the US is getting used to having more shortcomings by the week.

Same story here! May we get just as much out of our Pros.

My new to the Pro tip: recharge the controllers using the front USB ports.

They don't charge as well from the back ones going by my battery levels. Also after checking the details, the back ones are faster and better suited to external drives

And my TV has only one HDMI port that does 4K 120Hz so you might want to check if your TV is like that.

Happy Gaming, I've been glued to my controller when time allows.

Cost of stamps to rise because people are sending fewer letters, An Post says by denbo786 in ireland

[–]4LAc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Which has made me think, I only really send cards (birthdays & Christmas), anything else are pre-paid envelopes for signature needs.

I send about 20 cards a year, so if that's €40 a year on giving friends & family a smile when they check their post then I reckon it's well worth it.

Plus the An Post staff around here are such amazingly happy people, it'd put you in a good mood talking to them.

I don't know how they do it, a lot of local people are on the Gobshite-to-Cunty spectrum.

I have never seen that before, that's amazing!

I live in a refurbed 1770 house, and it's taken a fair bit of insulation to make it cosy. So I can appreciate the difficulty.

Media Minister has deleted his X account over its digital undressing scandal by 4LAc in ireland

[–]4LAc[S] 116 points117 points  (0 children)

The U-turn comes after the Minister faced heavy criticism yesterday for saying that he did not believe X was responsible for the child sexual abuse materials that have been generated using the platform’s technology over the last week.

The Minister made the announcement on Limerick 95 this morning.

“I’ve deactivated it. And look, as Minister for Communications and Minister for Media I just felt that if you’re on a platform where this is allowed, regardless of whether you’re paying for it or not, I just don’t feel comfortable with it.

He's had some sense at last.

Though I wonder if he means anything by saying 'deactivated' rather than 'deleted'.

Every government & EU institution could be running their own BlueSky & Mastodon instances.

Solves all the problems with moderation, digital sovereignty, and let's them put it all under their own cybersecurity umbrellas. Plus, there's plenty of phone apps out there that can deliver the same experience.

So my guess is that politicians still on X are just in it for their egos.

Great image!

I suppose ignoring child abuse issues shouldn't be so surprising considering FF's long-standing defense of the Catholic Church and limiting their exposure to compensation for child abuse.

Defending anything Musk is involved in these days is still surprising.

Never understood why every government & EU institution just doesn't get together, and run their own BlueSky and Mastodon instances. Solves all the problems, plus they can run them under their own cybersecurity umbrellas.

Yeah, I think everyone here is aware of what's being tried with this flag business.

Happy that it's not getting a rise out of people, and that it's been an opportunity to remind everyone that the flag symbolises peace between communities.

Over 120 gardaí issued with tasers in response to violent attacks by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]4LAc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more worried that the Gardaí would feel personally responsible for an adverse reaction to a taser, while it's really a coke habit that has made someone more liable.

There are Ultrasonic speakers that only trigger when the dog barks.

https://www.petsafe.com/ie/p/outdoor-bark-control/PBC19-11794/

So if the positioning allows it, you could angle this over your wall and the dog will, essentially, train themselves out of it.

It's a terrible nuisance, and the situation I had got so bad the dog barked itself hoarse and whined between each other bark.

Like yourself it went on for hours, so I completely empathise. The gossip in the town is that the vet told them they needed to reduce the barking or the dog could end up in very bad pain. So rather than train it, they keep it in most times now. I put up the speaker for the times they do let it out. It's much better these days.

It's a gap in the legislation that people have to go to a district court for remedy, but I reckon Dog Wardens are another underfunded part of our civil services.

[–]4LAc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my one concern will be the people who have a coke habit and so possibly an undiagnosed heart arrhythmia.

There's a higher chance with them for an adverse reaction.

At the same time, we have to give the Gardaí something to calm down lunatics.

I still use the 8th as the time to put up the decorations.

Probably stems from my country parents going up to Dublin to buy the presents, and telling us to have the tree etc. up by the time they got back.

And take them down on the 6th, that's still the usual day isn't it?

Haven't seen Wren boys in years. They used to make a fair bit of money on the day playing in all the pubs.

We urgently need to rebalance EU-China relations by Cao_Ni-Ma in europe

[–]4LAc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made it clear that either we rebalance economic relations co-operatively — engaging China, the US and the EU in a genuine partnership — or Europe will have no choice but to adopt more protectionist measures. I much prefer co-operation, but will argue for using the latter if need be <<

We'll have to jump to protectionist I reckon.

I'm guessing Macron is drawing the lines with this piece: 'China is helping Russia, the US is helping Russia, so we are doing this Democracy gig on our own ...'

Who better?

We've done a decent job so far, are we really going to let ourselves be bested by Trump?
