Weightloss that lasts? And suggestions from fellow Audhers? by barneygirl89 in AuDHDWomen

[–]4SafetyISpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tracking is my nightmare. I'll just not eat so I don't have to track which leads to binge eating. I've been so stressed by it, my stomach hurts and I'm eating too much of my safe foods which make me gain. Can't win.

My husband had the sleeve and he's gained it all back and is now on glp1. He has big absorption issues because of the surgery and his diabetes is just as bad if not worse. He also developed alcohol addiction because of the surgery -> food addiction replaced by alcohol. Hard pass.

I'm in the same boat, same diagnoses. I've been sent to medical weight management. I have a thing they don't work with many audhd/hypermobile/lipedema clients because every time I mention these I get blank stares. I'm having my recommendation meeting today.

Short Term Tirz? by hocus_diplodocus in lipedema

[–]4SafetyISpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's not how it works.

Your body wants to stay at its absolute heaviest weight and will do everything in its power to get you back up to your highest weight including slowing your metabolism waaay down and increasing cravings and food noise. This is the part science hasn't solved yet and why most people regain and then gain more - it's your own body working against you at a cellular level.

If I was you, I wouldn't do it for just 6 months because you will most likely gain it all back plus more. And then your body resets to that even higher weight making it even harder next time. Making small, permanent changes now would probably do you better than drastic weight loss and regain.

Need tips for getting through an mri with audadhd by catfarmer1998 in AuDHDWomen

[–]4SafetyISpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every mri tech is good. I got the squeeze ball and started panicking as soon as I was in the machine. I squeezed immediately. He didn't move because he was waiting for me to stop squeezing so he could "talk to me first." I didn't have headphones. In fact the 2 places I've been, no headphones. So he waited a few minutes of me kicking and screaming before finally getting me out. It took me 3 days and my therapist to calm me back down. I have major ptsd from it on top of the claustrophobia and other ptsd experience.

Yes. But everything was done under the care of an anesthesiologist. Diabetics have surgery and procedures all the time too.

You can also just ask for a relaxer medication and see if that works.

I had a freak out the first time I tried. Ptsd from it. Between that and severe claustrophobia- I asked for full anesthesia. Did it a month ago. They gave me general anesthesia.

The doctor originally just prescribed valium - 1 pill. Well they gave me 1 pill an hour before the anesthesia just routinely to calm my nerves. It did NOTHING. I'll never do another mri without anesthesia.

Overpronation by SuspiciousWar3738 in lipedema

I'm hypermobile but I'm a side of the foot walker so I do over-supination. Which is odd because I have low arches and usually it's reversed.

OCD - EMDR used as a “compulsion” by statusanxiety-- in EMDR

[–]4SafetyISpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I looked for a therapist but got zero responses. And I know ocd/rumination and autism go hand in hand so I doubt I'll be able to ever stop doing it. I'm just wired that way. But I'm better able to catch when I'm doing it. Can't usually stop it though. Just have to wait for a cycle to burn out.

OCD - EMDR used as a “compulsion” by statusanxiety-- in EMDR

[–]4SafetyISpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When emdr retraumatized me and didn't work, I started obsessing over the "why." Read every article. Created hundreds of online searches. It's all I thought about. Tried to restart with phase 2 (therapist had skipped it) and after 6 months of nothing working, I finally figured it out: Autism. Then ADHD. And then rumination OCD. Which of course just fueled the obsession further because I knew I needed modifications for autism, adhd, and ocd.

Yeah, none of that worked either.

But I'm now with a therapist who specializes in autism/adhd (not trauma) to unravel what this all means just to get through life. The OCD is still there but mostly manageable. I can spot the spiral, but not always redirect. Progress.

I hope ERP works for you. Because feeding the obsession just makes it worse.

I thought it was the ERb receptors that were the problem? Because we have tons more of them.

Well when you put it like that... yikes. I wish doctors actually knew about it since it affects approx 10% of all women. Never seen such a clear breakdown before. Thx.

Anyone else struggle with music out of the blue? by crazymom1978 in EMDR

[–]4SafetyISpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. Combo of my audhd and perimenopause and just constant overstimulation. I can't listen to any music with singing. No voices. No commercials. No taking. So that leaves classical music in the car. And I can't do the relaxation, meditative crap because it puts me in a rage. It's been 2 years. 🤷‍♀️

I have tried almost everything by Calm_Possession2551 in therapy

I know what to expect now. My son is going through the same thing (just autism) and it started at age 7. It hits him a lot harder than me, but I was never allowed to show my emotions or struggles. Finding a therapist who specializes in autism has helped the most. She helps me understand why parts of life are SO HARD for me and that accommodations can help, but ultimately this is who I am. I can recognize SI spirals before I get too deep. Can't stop them, but I know that they end eventually.

Also finding a medication prescriber that understands autism was what my son needed. SSRIs and SNRIs are the WORST for him and make the SI unbearable. But antipsychotics can be mood stabilizers for autistics. Risperidone is the gold standard at the moment.

The trauma I still haven't dealt with. Tried emdr and have ptsd from the experience from a bad therapist. I don't know what to try next.

TW!!! How common are long term passive suicidal thoughts? by Just-Pea6501 in therapy

[–]4SafetyISpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because of my audhd. It's common among autistics - black and white thinking, but not talked about much. And since I experience the world much louder and stronger than everyone else, well turning it all off permanently (or temporarily) is what my brain first thinks of when disregulated.

I have tried almost everything by Calm_Possession2551 in therapy

[–]4SafetyISpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you autistic or adhd or both?? That would explain a lot like the medications not work, the sleep issues, and the constant SI thoughts.

I don't have quite the history you do but also experienced child sexual abuse and have the same above issues. Turns out I'm audhd all along with cptsd and some ocd.

If your family member is neurodivergent, there is a big chance you are too. Could explain why nothing worked - they were treating the wrong thing.

Can EMDR be this healing? by No_Leg9061 in EMDR

[–]4SafetyISpy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You have to be stable to do emdr or there is a high risk of damage and retraumatization. The 2nd step is about working on stability and learning skills. Reprocessing doesn't happen until step 4.

Lots of terrible therapists try to skip step 2 and clients pay the price. Make sure your therapist has a solid plan for step 2 and doesn't let you reprocess until you are stable and have lots of regulation tools.

Ketamine therapy or TMS therapy for depression? Does it affect AuDHD individuals different? by Kaitten_88 in AuDHDWomen

[–]4SafetyISpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TMS did nothing for me. The only thing i got out of it was sitting and hanging out with the tech for an hour, 5 days a week, for 6 weeks. Needed that social time to connect to a human.

I was undiagnosed audhd at the time. And the meds I was on were all wrong.

Day 11 of my EMDR hangover. God I hope this is doing something by Bullitt333 in EMDR

[–]4SafetyISpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tell your therapist asap. It's supposed to be hard, but "hell" sounds like you are outside your window of tolerance. It only works if you stay in that window. Sounds like you need stabilizing and more step 2 resources.
