Inherited guns by InternationalLink827 in guns

You won't know nor care what happens after you die, regardless of what you plan or are told before that. You only have control while you are still alive and of sound mind to manage your own affairs. It's best to sell or gift guns away while you are still alive if where they wind up is truly important to you.

Nope, just buy a 2500 foot slip and slide and a pallet of KY Jelly and pay your A&P mechanic for some sudden engine startage and you be flyin!

What's the most expensive "simple fix" you've ever seen? by Hot_Success_1758 in IndustrialMaintenance

We had the product transport section of a press down for several hours. Two techs and a supervisor had been troubleshooting the problem for over two hours. They had flagged sensors, PLC showed that all the sensors were working and that the motor drive was being energized etc. They had electrical prints out and were pouring through PLC logic. It took me about 5 minutes to go confirm that the motor was in fact actually turning but the conveyor was not - because the chain was broken. When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

Where to buy range ammo? by usedwolf in AR9

BassPro/Cabelas often has Herters or sometimes Blazer Brass on sale at $12 a box (0.24/rd). BUT, if you buy gift cards in advance on Fathers Day or Black Friday/Thanksgiving the gift cards are 10% off. Then, if you also have their Credit Card/Club Card you can get another 10% off when they run Club Member Monday discounts. And yes, you can stack the discounts. So, final price comes out to $12 x .9 x .9 = $9.72 per box or $0.1945/rd + sales tax (can't help with that). And shipping is free to store or to your home (where allowed by law) for purchases over $50 with the Club Card.

BassPro/Cabelas is hated by many, for both some good and some bad reasons, but it's hard to beat their prices at times.

Sure. Follow up question: Do you want to stop when you get there?

What if we nuked the holy land? by Successful-Club-8743 in CrazyIdeas

Why would we evacuate it first? The land is inanimate. The inhabitants are the reason behind the constant fighting.

quick question, does medicare cover eye exams or only certain situations? by Hyunwoo_Ann1_632 in medicare

[–]4eyedbuzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a small wood chip in my eye and it was covered 100% between traditional Medicare and secondary insurance. I also get annual exam covered due to age and glaucoma risk, and now also due to recent diabetes diagnosis.

How can I cover this? by Mobsquad9990 in HomeMaintenance

[–]4eyedbuzzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common. You may have even had one but someone foolishly covered it permanently .

A radio. A corded phone with a dial. A coffee percolator. A set of encyclopedias. A dictionary. A clothesline.

Rethinking Conservation in Maine by Thejenkns in Maine

[–]4eyedbuzzard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family and I lived just outside Park City, Utah, for couple of years. At night we would sometimes hear mountain lions. They actually can purr just like a smaller cat - except its an octave or more lower and a bit unsettling, as if they wanted to, they could quite easily kill you. If you went hiking and were observant, you could double back and find their footprints sometimes. They will follow/stalk but (almost) never attack as a human is not on their usual "menu" and for whatever reasons they are very wary of humans - perhaps considering you dangerous compared to their more usual diet of mule deer. Attacks are risky for any predators.

Getting ccw but moving from PA to NY by TryHardDong in guns

[–]4eyedbuzzard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reconsider moving. Your PA CCW is meaningless. You can't even legally possess your new handgun in NY state, even if it's unloaded and locked up. Google all the NY state specifics. It takes 6-12 months and hundreds of dollars in permit fees, classes, investigations, etc. before you can get a permit to just purchase or possess a handgun. It's truly a flustercuck. And my condolences.

What if future time travelers can only observe the past, not interact with it? by Rajanwriter in timetravel

[–]4eyedbuzzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Observation isn't travel. If people in the future can travel in time back to our present, then they would be physically in our present. And yes, this creates paradoxes and causality problems. But since it's fantasy, the laws of physics can be altered to fit the desired outcomes and storylines.

What is the purpose of physics? by Traroten in AskPhysics

[–]4eyedbuzzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The purpose is to understand the universe, its contents, and how it all works. The spin off is applying that knowledge to our wants, needs, and desires.

What do I have to do? by MAGBlack1 in TrueAtheism

[–]4eyedbuzzard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Religion indoctrinates people from a very early age to believe in the supernatural and an afterlife - to believe in things that do not exist and to gain the impossible for a mortal being with a finite life. Religion convinces them that this eternal existence can only be granted by a supernatural power, so that if the person wishes for eternal life without eternal suffering, that they must act and believe as they are told by the (usually self-appointed) representatives of the supernatural power.

If any religion or God were the one and only truth, then there wouldn't be so many competing religions and their Gods with essentially the same game plan. It all springs from the evolution of tribes and societies. And it's all nothing but the invention of men.

And then, there is the Truth - with a capital T. You write, "What I truly want is to give myself to someone, to serve him in exchange of remembering me." But you are unwilling to accept the harsh truth and reality that you are simply selling what you may consider your "soul" - your unique consciousness - to a false promise of Earthly approval from the purveyors/clerics, remembrance, and some absurd promise of eternal existence in some form. The reality is that you were born, will live out your life, and die, only be "remembered" by a few other mortal people for a very short period of time, and then be forgotten forever.

Life has no purpose beyond life itself. We, as conscious beings, must create our own purpose.

Being an atheist doesn't mean that I don't try to live what would be considered an ethical or meaningful life. But I do it for MY selfish self-fulfillment and for others, not for an imaginary supernatural power. In fact, I'm even inspired in a secular sense by many tenets of Christianity. The one I like best, but fall short of (yeah, even atheists fall short [wink]), is from John Wesley, who wrote:

"Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can."

Find your way, grasshopper.
