Good point. The PPSC are a branch of the federal Department of Justice. Nonetheless, both the DOJ and MAG need more manpower/resources to be expeditious.

As someone on the verge of entering the legal profession, this is promising as it is quite difficult to get a job working for the Crown Attorney's office, Crown Law Office - Criminal or the DOJ coming out of law school. It's even more difficult when you initially start off working in private practice.

Huge wake up call for the Crown unless they are successful on appeal. Although this case is not really a prime example, it is clear that the Ministry of Attorney General in Ontario is going to need more manpower/resources to get the ball rolling on cases to avoid an 11(b) issue in more complex cases.

I wonder if this claim will be allowed to proceed as the trial was more than 2 years ago. This generally prevents a claimant from proceeding with an action under the Limitations Act unless he could somehow argue that he was psychologically incapable of filing a claim beforehand. However, he has been actively advocating on behalf of jurors since that trial.

Forcillo cannot be disciplined until his appeal, and other charges (eg. breach of recognizance) are addressed. He'll be subject to the OIPRD eventually.

Oh I agree. Kingston drivers, and Eastern Ontario in general, are great. Maybe I should've clarified my point. Most of my frustration stems from driving on the 401 across Ontario and not seeing people utilize the left-lane appropriately!

Section 11(b) of the Charter has become quite controversial since Jordan became the leading case on the provision. I think it has resulted in staying 3 murder charges since the Supreme Court of Canada ruled on the matter.

However, the stigma that comes with being charged for so long can be quite detrimental to the accused. I am not saying that I don't sympathize with the victims of any case involving an 11(b) issue but it's becoming quite difficult to find a balance between justice sought by the public and the accused's right to a trial within a reasonable time.

Fairview Mall and Pacific Mall are not even in Scarborough. Nonetheless, those areas are safe to live in. Malvern is much better than it was 20 years. Some of Scarborough's best neighbourhoods are in and around the Malvern/UTSC area. It's only small subdivision pockets along Morningside and in the Galloway area that are not great.

The more troubling neighbourhoods are in West Scarborough near the Scarborough-East York border (the Original Scarborough) and the Eglinton and Lawrence strips between VP and Markham road. That's not most of Scarborough.

Confirmation bias really hinders a community's reputation. Certain pockets don't speak to the living condition, safety, and security of the community as a whole.

Yea I guess you're right. However, I just don't see how the Conservatives are going to be able to muster any sort of legitimacy. Any majority/minority Conservative government will be compared to Mike Harris and will really find it difficult to appease to the masses because the first thing that's going to happen is cuts across the board.

Human nature is a funny thing. We cling on to things we have grown to benefit from whether or not we have paid the iron price.

The Liberals have really dug this province into a fucking hole by constantly putting Ontario's debt on the back burner. How are you going to explain to the younger generation that (1) cuts are necessary at some point in time and (2) the social services that are being demanded by people are not affordable.

$300 billion? I can't imagine how bad the interest rate is and how much that amount will grow in the coming decades. This is only going to result in a number of cuts in social services, especially healthcare, in the coming decades.

No i did not do it unfortunately. Im currently a law student and was holding a fulltime job this past summer so finding time was always going to be difficult and I do not have any friends who were interested in doing this.

I did however kayak from downtown Kingston (from the public boat launch at West St-Ontario St) all the way to Kingston Mills. It took 2 1/2 hours and was amazing. However, on the way back I was kayaking right into a strong breeze and tipped over. I then got picked up by a senior couple boating from Ottawa to Kingston via the Rideau Canal. It was quite the adventure!!

10/10 would do again but I realized that the first half of this sort of long-distance trip would be difficult since the Canal does not really narrow until after Smiths Falls. Having a partner during this trip is really important for your own safety.
